With exports at US$ 58.466 billion, Brazil's cumulative trade surplus for the year has now reached US$ 20.990 billion. That has prompted the Central Bank to officially raise its projected year-end surplus estimate from US$ 30 billion to US$ 30.1 billion.

The world's first leishmaniasis vaccine received authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture to be sold in Brazil. The vaccine, called Leishmune, was developed by Brazilian researchers at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. |

We were 2 years into the project of re-translating some classic bossa nova tunes by Tom Jobim before deciding that we have to tackle "Garota de Ipanema." At first reading, the existing translation from Norman Gimbel has a great lilt to it and is reasonably accurate.

In less than 20 years, Brazil's housing deficit can nearly double from its present lack of 7.2 million residential units to 12.45 million in 2023. In an attempt to diminish this difference, the Ministry of Cities estimates that an annual expenditure of around US$ 4.52 billion (12;44 billion reais) is necessary. |
