If this product was available to the public, for sale, wouldn\'t it help the financial goal toward computers for all children? I live off-grid and would buy one myself immediately. - Guest

Negroponte now says the computer would break if it had a crank on it. In fact when Kopfe Annan tried turning the crank in Tunisia last year it snapped off in his hand!

Now it will have a \"power brick\" that sits on the floor and has a treadle pedal, vaguely reminiscient of a motorless sewing machine\'s foot-power treadle; the child need only keep up a rocking motion with their foot to recharge or power the unit.

Unfortunately these treadle-pumped generators sound like someone torturing a radio-controlled car; imagine a whole school of them yowling at once! - Guest

If the government wants to buy 1 million laptops, does that mean that Brazil has only 1 million children ????
