British Experience

Well from what I can see the US is totally right in trying to tighten up on the number of illegal immigrants seeping, apparently daily, through its borders.
We too in Britain, along with most of the other European countries, are having problems with uncontrolled illegal immigration. Italy is the worst hit, as far as I can see, because they literally get boatloads of Moroccans sailing over daily to try and sneak in. From Italy they then try to disperse into other parts of Europe. Of course, this is intolerable. However, there seems to be a few pinko, bleeding hearts among us that think this is ok, because the poor souls only want a better life. That may be so, but they are still entering a country criminally, and so should be treated as such—i.e. quick kick up the arse and sent packing. Personally I think they should be making their own countries a better place to live, not fleeing to another and then bemoaning their conditions.
If you’re interested I can tell you, from a BBC programme I saw some months ago, that ‘illegals’ come into Britain through the Channel Tunnel. The French authorities do little or nothing to prevent them, as they don’t want them in their land and don’t want the bother or cost of detention and deportation. This has, in fact, contributed to the financial woes of the tunnel operators, as they cannot run overnight freight-trains for fear of people creeping around in there.
Another problem we have in the UK is that our asylum laws seem to assist many illegal immigrants. Once he/she has claimed asylum he/she has the right of proper process and this can take 4-5 years initially, with an appeals process to the Home Secretary if denied. During this process the appellant is entitled to free housing, legal, medical, and maintenance costs paid for out of the pubic purse.
The problem is only exacerbated by the large number of legal immigrants in the UK, who resist, vocally, attempts to amend legislation to prevent patent abuses of our system: as Enoch Powel one said on the subject of immigration, “numbers are everything.”
It is also clear from recent surveys that the UK is far from a homogenous, multi-cultural country, as Tony Blair would have us, and everybody else, believe. Many immigrants identify very poorly with Britain and its values and way of life, preferring to live in enclaves. I imagine this to be quite different from the US experience, as one poster has shown. Attempts to introduce a ‘Britishness’ test, for want of a better word, have only been met with opposition from pressure groups. An American style loyalty pledge to be taken by all immigrants granted UK citizenship has, like-wise, been booed. - Judge Dread

secure our borders

This Chacon guy is living in lala-land. The US is a sovereign country and it reserves the right to defend itself against
any invansion.
The argument that the US is a country of immigrants and therefore it should allow anybody in is flawed. The early immigrants came to America to build a new nation and be free. Their former homeland was a thing of the past. The
majority of the current illegal immigrants are coming to exploit our system and try to shove their culture down our thoats.
Most despise our way of live. Maybe they just trying to emmulate what the Spanish and Portuguese did when they discovered the new world: Exploit it and send it back home.

I am a Naturalized US Citizen who was born and raised in Brazil. I came to America to be an American, to assimilate the language and culture and work to make America an even better place for our kids. I also renounced my Brazilian citizenship at the Brazilian Consulate. No dual Citizenship here. America is my home.

It pisses me off when an American Citizen tries to regain control of their community and the open borders crowd calls it racism.

Anything more racist that the \"LA RAZA\" Organization operating in America? That says it all: \"The Race\"
If you want to wave your flag, dont do it here. dont demmand rights that I have to pay for out of my tax dollars. - Guest

quote:

\"Immigrants are undesirable and represent a threat to the well-being of American society and the United States\' security.\"

First of all, there is a BIG distinction between an immigrant, and an \"illegal immigrant\". The very definition of immigration does not apply to MANY illegals that currently reside in the U.S. To \"immigrate\" to another country is NOT to temporarily go to a country, leach off it\'s system, to not accamalate to the laws and culture of said country, and send as much money as possible from your new homeland back to your country of origin, and that is EXACTLY what millions upon millions of illegal immigrants do today in the U.S.A.

In Mexico and Brazil alone there are annual remittances of over 100 billion dollars sent back to their countries of origin from the U.S.

There are an estimated 12-20 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. today, and these new immigration bills aren\'t a \"right wing\" tactic, they are the will of the majority of the american people....that\'s called democracy.

Immigrants, LEGAL immigrants, are welcomed to the U.S. by the millions every year. More so than in ANY other country in the world. It\'s amusing to hear those that attempt to justify ILLEGALS in the U.S. when these people broke the law on either the very entry into the country, or when their temporary visas expired and they decided to stay.

It\'s also extremely difficult to empathasize with millions of illegals that demand their rights[/b] when they don\'t even have the [i]right to be in the U.S. Also when masses of them do things such as burn the american flag and not only change the language, but change the very words of things that are sacred such as it\'s national anthem.

As far as pointing fingers at the \"unfair\" immigration laws of the U.S., why don\'t you look at these very same laws in respect to your own country!!! They are MUCH more unfair. Does one think that a poor person can decide to legally immigrate to brazil or mexico???

Absolutely NOT!

In those countries an immigrant has two options, to either marry a citizen from said country, or apply for legal, permanent status through an investors visa! Which in Brazil has recently been lowered from $200,000 to $50,000!!

So in other words, in countries such as Mexico and Brazil they do not want immigration....unless you have money! But of course, you know all about the unfair reality and treatment in your own country, or else why would you want to leave it?

I can say this in all confidence, when americans see the millions of illegals marching through the streets, demanding their rights, which do not exist, afterall, they\'re not even supposed to be there, they can be correctly characterized as \"criminals\", burning american flags, torting the national anthem into a completely different song and changing the language, it\'s not helping YOUR cause. Matter of fact, it has encited americans all across the country, hence you have bills such as HR 4437, which is a direct response of the will of the american people.

You can only shit on americans, or any country or people, for so long until they decide to stand up for themselves. - guest
