A Chance to do it Right

No matter how good or bad things are here in the US, the Air Traffic Control System in Brazil is not much control at all. After assigning two aircraft on a collision course, anything else is trivial. Unless new equipment and procedures are put into the system so the air crews and ground controllers can talk to each other reliably anywhere in the system, it is just a matter of time before more accidents like the one in September occur. Brazil has the chance to do it right. I hope very much it will be done. I wish all of you well and safety in the New Year!

The US case is pure incompetence...or are you suggesting that this is the first time it snows 24 inches in Colorado...

LOL....what stupidity! Technology? It's not only snow deputy dog, it's ICE. And sorry, we americans haven't yet figured out how to stop making it snow nor control the temperature. Guess those guys in Denver should just do what the folks here in brazil have been doing for decades, knowingly send their passengers into a dangerous situation......moron! - bo

"how pathetic
written by someone, 2006-12-28 00:37:15

The replies to the articles on this site get more pathetic everyday. The US doesn't have anything to do with this yet some idiot tries to compare the situation in Brazil with a situation in the US that is occurring in a smaller scale and is affecting a lot less people than the situation in Brazil.

I don't know what beef some of you guys have with the US and Americans but you really need to let it go.
Stephen for Christ sake take a long distance course and finish that high school once and for all LOL... What does "incomptence and dangerious " means??? Unless of course you tell me that a Brazilian stole your English dictionary also? laugh…

Your right on. The problems in the US are weather related, the problems in Brazil are sheer incomptence and dangerious as well"

My serious question to both of you is

The Brazilian case is directly related to the incompetent pilots and the TCT. The US case is pure incompetence...or are you suggesting that this is the first time it snows 24 inches in Colorado... you don't see this crap happening in Japan’s airports do you??? Maybe because they have the right technology in place!!! Face it Colorado airport is well under equipped as described by transportation experts and not by a bunch of ignorant morons like the Americans I see in this site, that gives a bad name for the rest of us Americans everywhere. Let’s not even mentioned how deep and rooted in organized crime this situation in the States must have been, for all this crap to happen. So the argument by this stupid Americans “wannabe” that writes in this site will probably be that all the workers that rob the luggage are illegal Brazilians in the USA. You guys are way too racist for my taste and should be ashamed of your diluted principles. - An American

LOL...I flew with Tam, but they had nothing to do with the situation, or so it appeared. My bags were taken by a brazilian customs officer and I was told I could get them at the airline check-in. No reason to lie here mrs. denial. Are you married to A Brazilian? Or maybe you're his female alter-ego.

You never hear a single case of luggage stealling from aircompanies

Really? Well, they didn't steal my luggage, but they stole some of it's contents on my first ever trip to brazil! At customs in Sao Paulo they took my bag and told me I could get it at the check-in counter at my airline. When I went to check-in my locks had been broken off! And those little plastic ties were put on so I could not open it immediately unless I cut them off, which I didn't do until I arrived at my destination. Only to discover that jewelry that I had inside had been stolen! Made a report at the local police station, still waiting to hear from them, that was 12 years ago! - bo

Mineira girl, I don't know why the FBI is getting involved. Frankly, I don't think it makes much sense either but I'm not personally familiar with what's happening so I can't say for sure.

Lula is quite an idiot for stating that overbooking is what's causing all this trouble. The fact is that overbooking is practiced often by airlines so that in case some passengers don't show up, they can still turn a profit. That has nothing to do with the air traffic control system however. I'd prefer the ATC system be transferred over from the military to civillian workes like here in the US. The Brazilian ATC system definitely needs an overhall. - someone

Yeahhhhh.....a new explanation !!!!!!

Your air traffic problems are no longer due to
- overbooking as Lula said
- TAM planes maintenances !!!!!

But now it looks like a "communication" problem between Infraero and TAM !!!!!

Therefore cheating, lying and hiding was again the norm !!!!!

But afterall Infraero...is a state run company, just like those ATCs in the plane crash, that explains why originally all those reponsible were : OTHERS....AS USUAL !!!!!!

Who bet that Infraero workers will very shortly also say the stress under which they work due to SHORTAGE OF WORKERS, THEIR LOW SALARIES and they will also play the work- to-rule as the ATCs are doing ????????
They may as well go on strike.....putting then 100 % of the planes...on the ground !!!!

Quite laughable...when the real problems are revealed....FINALLY !!!!!!!!!! - ch.c.

Hey, "someone", you are at hand since mrs. davey jones doesn't return to answer the questions (what a sisi haha). Do you people need the Stallone fbi squad to handle this problem of lost luggage threw in dumps ? Are they (FBI) preventing the luggage from being looted? Are lost luggage looted in the US to mrs. davey jones affirm that so proactively in the case of Brazil? - mineira girl

Mineira girl, I understand and do agree that the airline employees in Brazil are hard workers that are just having a hard time keeping up. However, like Stephen stated, the luggage issues in the US are mostly due to weather related problems, unlike the situation in Brazil.

There is still no need for every article that the author says some hard truth about Brazil, for some of the Brazilians to start bashing the US. The US has its problems too, but in a smaller scale than in Brazil. So to the Brazilians who are always bashing the US, stop blaming them for things that your own government is doing. - someone

Is it really necessary pay fbi to help order the misplaced bags?

Hm, João Feijão and Paulo Pinga, what kind of names are that I wonder. You should show more respect for the people who works to make you feel comfortable roll eyes. They, work hard and are reliable aircompany employees. You never hear a single case of luggage stealling from aircompanies. What is you problem? Any idea? - mineira girl

Delays in the U.S.A.

I work at Philadelphia Airport and delays are an everyday ocurrence just in my one terminal (out of seven) Most delays are due to weather across the country. Lets not forget outright cancellations because the airline neeeds the plane somewhere else or it pulled a maintenance on the tarmac.Americans are used to this even though they might not be happy about it. U.S. Airliner's also overbook and this is standard practice becuase not everyone shows up for the flight, but at times they do and this is when the company puts you with another airline (except Southwest Airlines) The recent delays in Brazil are due to imcompetance. I love Brazil and have traveled their by air and bus extensivly with my Brazilian wife. I actually work for the Federal U.S. Goverment in Security at Philadelphia Airport and for passengers to "breach" into the tarmac to block a plane is unthinkable. What a disastor. These "breach's have happened many times because of the delays.

----- Now the FBI is handling the case

I would tend to agree with you mineira girl, although you were attempting sarcasm. For the FBI to get involved in a simple case like misplaced luggage after a winter storm shows how far the government goes at getting things right. In Brazil, everything would be left to João Fiejão and his companeiro Paulo Pinga and you could bet that the goods found in the lost luggage would be on sale on the streets of Copa under the watchful eyes of the miltary police the next day. - davey jones
