Much of the waste and byproducts from sawmills, previously burned up, is now made into charcoal. It´s a handy cash crop for people that can´t make a living any other way. If trees are cut to make charcoal, they are soft, inferior trees, which can´t live too many years because of the termites. Nobody specifically cuts good hardwood trees to make charcoal. And as I wrote many times, there is no difference between sugar cane and charcoal : both create poverty and slavery for the majority, wealth for a small minority ! But isnt Brazil proud of their pig iron production and export ? THUS THEY ARE PROUD TO USE SLAVES....by definition ! The main difference being that the ethanol industry is already much much larger than their pig iron production ! And ethanol will be far far bigger in the next few years !!!! Here is one of my reflection : - Brazilians accuses the developed nations to have pillaged their resources for centuries and at very low prices ! CORRECT ? - Just think about that : will not their descendants in 50 or 100 years say exactly the same for what happened in 2000 - 2010 ?????? Are we obliging them to produce ethanol or are they doing everything in their power and beg to developed nations that we buy their ethanol.Same for grains, meat, chicken, etc etc.... simple demonstration of how unfair is their accusation for the past just as unfair will be their accusation in 50 or 100 years. Developed nations never ever obliged anyone to sell a product at a low price. Supply and demand and competition will always determine the acceptable price for both the buyers and the sellers. Same for Oil and energy ! What will oil producers say in 50 or 100 years ? That early in the century (2006-2007) developed nations pillaged their oil by paying "only" US$ 60.-per barrel...while oil price is now (in 2050) at $ 600.- per barrel ????? Us$ 600.- per barrel is not so much outside of the possibility, knowing that oil was below US$ 6 50 years.- or ten times cheaper than today prices. OF COURSE THEY WILL JUST AS THEY DO TODAY FOR PRICES OF 50 YEARS AGO AND AS THEY DID 50 YEARS AGO FOR PRICES PAID 50 YEARS EARLIER !!!!! In my view, Brazilians and other developing countries should wake up to the reality : Basic commodities producers will never ever become developed countries but will remain developing countries. To become a developed country, the first thing every developed country did was to give a good basic education to every one, promoting higher education for those who have the aptitude, and then put in place a good environment for R%D, and new technology. And this is exactly what Brazil....DOESNT DO !!!!! 15 months ago, in my opinion, Bush said it all : "A government is not supposed to provide wealth to its citizens. A government must provide a good and positive environment to all. In doing so, entrepreneurs will reveal by themselves. Those who succeed will have to pay something back to the government through taxes" And this is exactly what every actual developed country did and continue to do ! I GUARANTEE THAT THE ONLY BENEFICIARIES OF ETHANOL WONT BE THE PRODUCERS BUT THE CONSUMING COUNTRIES ! JUST AS IT WAS, STILL IS, AND WILL REMAIN...FOR OIL !!!!!!!!! And worse yet.....just imagine when oil prices will come down, because ultimately it will. New finds, new technologies, newer energies such as ethanol will compete against each others ! yessss....Brazilian society is falling once more in a trap, created by both your governments and foreign governments brainwashing techniques ! The nonly winners will be foreigners and the minority elite of Brazil. The only loser will remain the overall Brazilian society !!!! yesssss...Lula and his gang are betraying your future through lies. No doubt that Bush (which I basically like) doesnt show his big smile and his real thinking when he compliments Brazil for its ethanol production. The more you produce...the cheaper it will become...by definition ! Look at sugar prices.....DOWN 50 % in 12 months, UP only 40 % in the last 5 years which then was at an historical record low. And these prices are in USD, a declining currency, making the real price increase in your own currency......VERY SMALL !!!!!!! AND DONT BE BLIND, the actual price increase in grains, just will make the EU and USA subsidizes disappear naturally. And then they will switch their agricultural subsidizes to bio- energy production for local use....coming from.... their own agricultural products !!!!! Can you follow my therory and conclusion? Just think about it ! It is like the planet warming, the biggest lie ever promoted by many governments....on purpose !!!!! Meaning land degraded by cattles or more precisely by those brazilians who put cattles there without maintenance of fertilzers etc ! Simple demonstration of HOW YOU......DONT TAKE CARE OF YOUR OWN LAND, CONTRARY TO THE ABOVE SELF COMPLIMENTARY ARTICLE !!!!! And the 100 millions hectares mentionned are for degraded pastures only, thus not including the millions and millions hectares of degraded land due to soil erosion, because of your own unwillingness of land maintenance !!!! Since ethanol is quite trendy for the time being, I could only suggest you to plant these 100 millions hecatres of degraded pastures to sugarcane. Knowing that above 100 tons/hectares could be produced, this would add over 10 billions tons of sugarcane to your existing 450 millions tons crop, or more than 20 times your existing production. And knowing that 40 % of your production is manually harvested, this would also multiply the number of sugarcane cutters jobs BY SEVERAL MILLIONS !!!!! Good for your 9 % or so unemployment rate ! Correct ? Did I say new jobs ? Ohhh noooooooo...I meant SLAVES !!!!!! This could very well be your hidden scenario. After all arent you becoming "new" friends of some African countries ????? Guess why ! Just think about it. You may as well import new Africans SLAVES if not enough already available in your country ..... and export....ETHANOL !!!!!!!!!
