I wonder if Brazil's congress will drop the intent to charge the American Pilots from the GOL/Embrare crash with Murder.

Why would they do that if the american pilots had their share of guilty?
Haven't herd much about that since this accident

It will be a long time before you hear anything about this!. The new minister will have to inform himself first about the on going investigations before taking any decision on this issue.

btw, our friend Pires was quite upset when leaving his cushy job. I am sure he will get another post very soon after spending his vacation in Europe or U.S. - O Velhinho

They are only giving up political control of the air sector and returning it to technical hands (if that's what REALLY gonna happen... yet to be seen!) because they finally, FINALLY, at long last, realized that ideological party lines and politics can't keep planes in the air.

No Dude, they are not giving up political control but getting rid of the Military influence! Jobim is the Ex-President of STF and also the Ex-Minister of Justice. He will be able to handle the repercussions when the cause of the TAM accident is found to be the short, defective and incomplete runway for which INFRAERO is responsible. In this case, obviously the government is liable and plum traget for law suits. Not to mention the political fall out, especially in RG.

I dont know if you read that thre are 5 Directors in ANAC and only one of them is technically qualified ( An Air Force Colonel, specialized in Aviation Safety). All the rest, including the President are not qualified and those 4 were given Santos Dumont medal on last Friday for their contribution to the Brazilian Civil aviation! Probably the Colonel is also on his way out too.

btw, you may find this article in New York Times interesting:

César Maia's claims unfortunately have a ring of truth in them. That would be typical Lula government M.O. (remember his advisors' f*ck-you gesture?) The Stalinist vein the government has as its heritage has shown up before. They are only giving up political control of the air sector and returning it to technical hands (if that's what REALLY gonna happen... yet to be seen!) because they finally, FINALLY, at long last, realized that ideological party lines and politics can't keep planes in the air. However, this terror-tactic type of action is something they just have as second nature. The U.S. has Osama Bin Laden to throw planes at buildings and terrorize his enemies. We have Osama Bin Lula! - Brazilian Dude
Writing in his Internet blog, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Cesar Maia, accused the Lula administration of coercing TAM to present possible technical troubles in the plane that crashed in Congonhas in a way that would exempt the government from blame. The company, in fact announced, soon after the tragedy, that the crashed Airbus, had one of its reverse thrusters turned off.

"I can state," wrote Maia, "because I am a witness, that a high-ranking government official, contacted TAM's high management telling them to either find a good way out for the government or risk, according to the official, to be broken by government action." TAM at first, says Maia, was afraid that such an arrangement would raise its insurance premiums.
This is a damn nasty charge and I truly hope that it is investigated to the fullest. If the good Mayor of Rio is found to be lying, then he must be dealt with harshly and expediently, if in fact the accusation is true, and the government threatened TAM to politically "tidy up" a horrific accident to save political face, then I would hope for no less than the storming of Planalto.
