Over 200 Domestic and Foreign Companies Expected at Brazil's Santos Offshore Fair PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom
Sunday, 12 October 2008

Santos Offshore Fair Discoveries by Brazilian state-controlled oil multinational Petrobras of new fields in the pre-salt layer at the Santos Basin, off Brazil's coast, should boost even further the 2nd edition of "Santos Offshore BS 2008 - Petro & Gas International Fair," the largest Oil and Gas event in the state of São Paulo, in southeast Brazil.

The new findings are already generating investment in infrastructure, production projects, splitting of royalties, formation of professionals and generation of income and jobs,

Also geared towards the Petrochemicals, Chemicals, Steelworks, and Environment sectors, the trade fair consolidates the fast pace of the segment, creating effective opportunities for new deals to exhibitors and visitors.

Promoted by company AGS3 - Promoções e Eventos, the "Santos Offshore 2008" will take place from October 21st to 24th at the Mendes Convention Center, and should display new machinery, equipment and other inputs to be used by the oil and gas industry in coming years, thus fostering a highly promising market in Brazil, especially in the state of São Paulo.

According to Valmir Semeghini, director at AGS3, one of the main reasons for promoting the fair is the industrial potential of São Paulo, as it is the only state in Brazil that has four refineries (RPBC, REVAP, RECAP, REPLAN), with capacity for nearly 900,000 barrels per day, three Petrochemical Hubs (Mauá, Cubatão and Campinas), over 70% of supplier industries and the largest port in Latin America.

"In 2007, we sought to establish a connection between exhibitors and clients, making the fair into a technological reference point, with technical and commercial added value. This time, we want to boost those business opportunities," says Semeghini.

Bringing together more than 200 companies, domestic and foreign, the fair is estimated to generate 200 million reais (US$ 91.6 million) in business deals, approximately 2,000 direct and indirect jobs and receive some 15,000 visitors. Last year, the event generated more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs and a business volume close to 1.7 million reais (US$ 77.9 million) in the Santos region.

Sponsored by Petrobras, "Santos Offshore 2008" counts on support from the Port of Santos, Ciesp, Sebrae, Associação Comercial de Santos, AmCham Brasil, Santos e Região Convention & Visitors Bureau, Santos Arbitral, Abende and the Metropolitan Agency of the Santos Region - AGEM.

"Santos Offshore 2008" also features activities on the sidelines, aiming to link suppliers and buyers together to promote opportunities and good business deals. One of the highlights is the Business Roundtable promoted by the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service in São Paulo (Sebrae-São Paulo) in partnership with Petrobras and the Program for Mobilization of the National Oil and Natural Gas Industry (Prominp).

By means of individual meetings lasting 30 minutes, suppliers will be able to present and negotiate directly with buyers, companies that already have contracts with Petrobras, especially in the Santos Basin.

This year, the Roundtable will bring three new anchor companies into the meetings: P.P.B. do Brasil Serviços Marítimos, Mendes Junior Trading e Engenharia, and Setal/SOG - Sistemas em Óleo e Gás. In addition to those, anchor companies attending the Business Roundtable since the 1st edition are UTC Engenharia S/A, JSB Usinagem e Manutenção Industrial Ltda., POLIENGE Manutenção Industrial Ltda, Maersk Brasil (Brasmar) Ltda., JR Serviços Médicos S/S Ltda., and SOTREQ S/A,Calorisol Engenharia Ltda.

In 2007, the Business Roundtable for the Oil and Gas Chain in the Santos region generated a turnover of approximately US$ 50 million. "Based on these figures and taking into account all of the activities on the sidelines of the fair, we expect to have deals worth more than US$ 100 million," says Valmir.

Besides the Business Roundtable, also to be held are the National Suppliers Seminar - SENAF, consisting of meetings promoted by exhibitors at the event; and the Supplier Channel, featuring lectures and clarifications, in which Petrobras will announce its needs in specific areas.
