Brazil President Sees Sunny Side of US Crisis: Obama's Victory PDF Print E-mail
Written by José Wilson Miranda
Tuesday, 21 October 2008

Barack Obama Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, sees a silver lining in the recent US economic meltdown. Talking in São Paulo, during an award ceremony for the most admired Brazilian companies, sponsored by left-leaning magazine Carta Capital, Lula said he believes that the current crisis will help senator Barack Obama become the next American president.

"Among the benefits that this crisis will bring is that it will elect Obama president of the United States, it will elect a black. What's not small potatoes," stated the Brazilian leader adding:

"Maybe there aren't that many ideological and conceptual differences between Democrats and Republicans but from a symbolic point of view it's a serious stuff that this world has elected a lathe operator for the second time in Brazil, elected an Indian in Bolivia, a bishop in Paraguay, and a black in the United States," said the president talking  off the cuff.

Lula complained that it took the American government one year to take steps against the crisis. Once again he blamed the US and its casino mentality for the global financial crisis. The president called the economic disaster fruit of "irresponsible gambling."

Lula used the award ceremony to thank Roger Agnelly, chairman of the mining giant Vale for having made it public that his company will keep its commitment to continue its planned investments in Brazil.

He also gave assurances that his administration will not make cuts in the resources allocated for infrastructure: "Not even one real will be taken from any project belonging to the PAC (Growth Acceleration Program) in this country," he promised

The Brazilian president stated that the financial help promised by the United States and European governments should produce results pretty soon. Lula reasoned that's not possible that US$ 3 trillion injected in the international financial system won't produce some positive effect.

Lula believes that Brazil has everything to overcome the crisis, because of what he sees as three favorable characteristics: "Our system is more serious than the international financial system; we have a financial system, with a public face rarely found in other countries; and our domestic market has room to grow."

According to the Brazilian president, it's up to Brazil and other developing countries the task of saving the world economy. "The emerging countries are the ones that are going to find a solution for the international crisis," he stated.

Of course it will! That's the whole point!
And it is all game , the republican party accusing Obama of being "socialist".. It is the current regime that has put "socialism" in place with these bailouts and buyouts BEFORE the election and inauguration. Who are they fooling!? smilies/grin.gif smilies/cheesy.gif smilies/grin.gif smilies/cheesy.gif smilies/cheesy.gif

Chuck Schumer

Predicts a 300 electoral college landslide for Obama.

No one knows the numbers like Schumer.

He also said today that he and his wife will be going to Napa Valley after the election. Either to enjoy the victory or get drunk. Does that sound like he's really convinced Obama will win?

It’s going to be sweet. Ignorant redneck heads will explode all across the country on the 4th. There will be beer smelling gray matter mixed with peroxide hair dye throughout the unpaved streets of trailer parks. Illegals will earn a pretty penny mopping up the debris, and then they’ll finally be given driver licenses. Those closer to the political centre will survive, and actually fair well after learning that the word “spread” is simply the opposite of HOARD and has nothing to do with the “evils of socialism”. One step at a time, we’ll educate them about true socialism later when we place an emphasis again on education, and toss out the “kill em all and let God sort em out” Nationalism that´s been cultured over the last 8 years.

I cant wait!

But not in....BRAZIL !!!!!!!!

Concerning Cia Vale it cant be any different...since the board of the company has 40 % of Brazilian POLITICIANS !!!!!!!!!!

Ohhhh and to my knowledge it is Roger Agnelli....not Roger Agnelly
Better yet his title is NOT CHAIRMAN.....but.... CEO
The CHAIRMAN is........ Sérgio Ricardo Silva Rosa

LULA THE IDIOT AND YOUR MEDIAS NOT ANY BETTER....GOOFED AGAIN !!!!
Normal for Brazilians !

Ohhh and Rosa is also President of PREVI The largest pension fund.
What a conflict of interests.
Vale is totally CONTROLLED directly and indirecty

"Previ is the pension fund for state-owned Banco do Brasil workers and one of Vale's leading shareholders. Previ and BradesPar, the investment unit of Brazilian bank Bradesco (BBD), make up Vale's controlling bloc of shareholders."

I´m sure the RNC has a few tricks up their sleeve. They are smarter than the Democrats.

Those tricks will be voter suppression, fear mongering, swiftboating and a host of other Rovian tactics that massacred McSame in 2000 by Bushy &co during the primaries., and now embraced by the "straight talk express" himself after years of whining about how unfair they were. No doubt you are correct about one thing ric, republicans don't care how low they sink to win, and we'll see something spectacular in the coming weeks. I have no doubts. But Dems are smarter, more educated, sophisticated, honest and moral, so they don't play the same fowl game as "real Americans" (as Palin calls em), to their detriment historically. However, this time, BHO is so far ahead and McSame, intellectually, is punching so over his weight class, and the nation is so fed up with 8 years of one disaster after another, short of shooting the candidate (which actually does frighten me), there's not a helluva lot Rove et.al can do now.

As to whether they'll bring Dubya's buddy Osama out? Of course they will. Their only advantage with the brain dead and terrified in the US is the terrorism card, and I'm sure we'll see it played soonest. It wont work this time though.

BTW Ask Palin what a VP does....... Opps, sorry it's been asked by a 3rd grader already. And she GOT IT WRONG! Damn those socialist third graders are in the tank for Obama for asking such a GOTCHA type question!

If I were in command of RNC, I would do something very bold and dirty. Send a message to OBL asking him to endorse BHO, stressing that his preferred candidate has H as middle name.

I feel I've done my part to play dirty tricks. I let my kid put up a sign in the yard for the candidate he's been led into thinking was the right one. One that I know will be quite the opposite of what the vast majority of the neighbors will think. So, in effect, rather than spending the time to explain many things in great detail and help the kid explore his knowledge / consider what may be underneath his decision, I've stuffed the local voting box for the opposition! The neighbors just couldn't possibly stay away from the polls having had that stuck up right in front of their face. Oh how I feel so low resorting to such tricks.

Obama - McCain........But....but....but.......
written by ch.c., October 21, 2008
American electors have surprised the world more than once !

No one expected Carter to win. HE WON
No one expected Clinton to win. HE WON

Therefore dont under estimate the eventual surprise.
I am not saying Mc Cain will win, but it is not impossible he will !

And regardless of who win, there wont be much change anyway despite what the candidates may say during the election campaign !!!!!
After all, the U.S. President has not so many decisions rights !

Who remembers Clinton and his wife, right after his first election, when they wanted to change the U.S. healthcare system ?
They went nowhere !

And who remembers Lula the Liar, when during his first election campaign and even after he won, PROMISED 10 MILLIONS NEW JOBS AND 400'000 MST settlements.....DURING HIS FIRST REIGN ?
Simple reality : 6 millions new jobs, 200'000 MST settlements !

Therefore taking with a grain of salt whatever is said or promised is always very judicious...at the end !!!!!

I am glad that finally you decided to shed your famous neutrality and come out with comments about the U.S. elections. You are right. No matter who wins, it does not affect the common man.

Whilst on the subject of lying politicians, is it true that the German Embassy in Paris has lodged a protest against Sarko for indecently fondling Angela Merckel, whenever they both meet ? I came to know about this serious issue through your daily "Le Matin".

Your feed back on this highly embarrassing diplomatic "incident" between Germany and France will highly be appreciated by all the bloggers. smilies/wink.gif smilies/cheesy.gif smilies/grin.gif

Which is fine unless you actually live in the USA. The polarization in terms of perceived Socialism vs. Capitalism, funny business in registering and voting, stereotypes and government programs, is really going to polarize the USA, much worse if it's Obama.

Problem is that fly-over country could exist without the coasts in some form, but the South Centrals and Newarks can't exist without the midlands, even for two weeks. That's just the way it is. How this would play out can't be predicted but I have never seen people more upset, on both sides.

Obama's honeymoon with the electorate would be short, but so would McCain's. You think the hatred towards Bush is bad? Just wait.

The One Thing
written by Simpleton, October 22, 2008
that is for certain, no matter how you like them, sunny side up, over easy, poached, boiled, scrambled, souffle'd, quiche'd, omlet'd, buried for a 1000 years, raw or even roostied (like ch.c), there's going to be a heck of a lot of people having to make do with eating eggs more and more. Especially if they don't know how to fish or don't live in the midlands where there's lots of cheese. It's going to get even tougher when the first thing to go on the chopping block is the Chicago (or is it someplace in Wisconsin?) point space pricing fix for wholesale milk. Moving to free market pricing internally is going to create such a scream that the socialists must be very very excited. That will re-enforce their backing more than anything ever could.

What are you folks doing for semana de santos Ric? I need a place to disappear and do a bit of reparada. I'm afraid Forrest's sweet wife's family's place is just too long a bus ride to consider. Then again, maybe you or your buddies could help me catch a cargo hop either there or back or both.

Qa'daquisha - the complimented parenting skills were a bit of a learned trait - I didn't say there was nothing said at all, only that I didn't make effort to go into great detail (and it was not the proper time as the kid was not receptive). That is not to say that there were no words spoken. The likeyhood is that those few that were will carry might and hopefully come to fruition by the time the kid becomes old enough to vote. Planting seeds of wisdom sometimes takes a bit more dilligence, effort, self control and above all else, patience to let things grow free.

So what was the moral of the story some forty years ago with Humphrey and what's his name?

Most Americans don't dwell on messy unimportant things like details (heavens forbid) and the collective result is patently obvious to those looking or tuning in. That's way this election looks more like a NASCAR race than a meaningful exchange of ideas regarding who is best suited to invade the next sovereign middle eastern nation.

Brazillians love to talk politics, but vote for idiots.
written by mike, October 22, 2008
I love to listen to Brazillians, decry US Politics, then go to the polls and elect a Complete IDIOT 2 times. Bush hasn't been a good President, but he's better than a Drunken Fool. The last decent politician was Fernando Henrique, but he made too much sense to the uneducated majority, so they chose Lula instead. Now they are releecting thieves and fools like Marta Suplicy, who ran Sao Paulo into the ground- don't these people have a memory. My wife is Brazillian and is glad she lives in the USA, where government isn't perfect but at least works.

Considerations for the upcoming US elections / Pessimistic Outlook for Planet Earth / In agreement with CH-C suggestion (possible surprise)
written by Augustus, October 24, 2008
As much as I would be delighted with Senator Obama's victory, and despite the results of multiple polls recently taken across the country (as broadcast by American networks), I agree with CH-C comments regarding the likelihood of shocking surprises…

Therefore dont under estimate the eventual surprise.
I am not saying Mc Cain will win, but it is not impossible he will !

If the “race” factor were not an issue in the United States of America, considering the appalling state of the global economy, which I fear represents the beginning of Phase-2 of the decline of American predominance in Global Affairs, I would have been exceedingly confident with the inevitable victory of the Democratic ticket during the upcoming American Presidential and congressional elections.

However, we live unfortunately in a rather disagreeable, cruel planet, where racial factors (despite some noticeable recent improvement across the civilized portions of the globe) remain an important, significant issue, which is likely to play a (last minute) role on Nov 4, 2008. Such “11th Hour” element may far surpass many of the recently broadcasted “public views”, “official poll results” and overall tendencies… Indeed, my greatest fear is the likelihood of a scenario where many (Anglo-Saxon) voters, especially those in the Southern & Central portions of the USA - when asking their own consciences/hearts about the correct way to vote within the privacy of the voting booth - may find themselves unable or unwilling to cast a vote for an individual whose ethnicity is mixed (which many White Americans consider an insult to their racist morality). In addition, such (troubled) individuals may start reflecting upon Republican illicitly inspired “rumors” whereby Mr. Obama would have indirect links with Islamic groups (a factor which could easily be reinforced by the candidate’s family links with Kenya).

If one were to take the above scenario under consideration, CH-C’s suggested surprising results would come to fruition, thereby providing yet another blow to whichever lingering possibilities of any eventual American recovery in economic, social and political terms; for I have no doubt that a McCain victory (particularly with a Fanatical religious, inexperienced, and biased running mate) will inevitably lead to a series of events that would cascade America into a steeper, and even more drastic decline in terms of wealth, power, and influence across the World…

Sadly, I fear the famous tenet “History Repeats Itself” is about to get another boost, if one considers the strong likelihood of an immediate deterioration of American Power, Weight, and Authority during the early 21st century; as it would parallel the equivalent historic British decline, which the World has witnessed during the beginning of the 20th Century… In fact, we could even equate the purely symbolic sinking of the Titanic in 1911 (considered by some historians as a psychological indicator of the Imperial downfall), with the destruction of the World Trade Center in New York City in 2001… Likewise, we might compare the embarrassing results of the Boar Conflict in South African (which followed equivalent results in the Sudan) with the recent American military interventions in Iraq & Afghanistan… Finally, while the British Aristocracy was still considering itself at the top of the World and boasting their mighty role during extravagant parties during the “London Season” of 1908”, we may compare them with the Wall Street magnate’s excesses of 2007-2008...

To refrain from further digression, it suffice to conclude this entry with my excessively pessimist expectations for the next few decades, which are likely to include significant economic hardship in the West, famine throughout most of the Third Word, along with conflict and/or civil unrest nearly everywhere… At any rate, if we take into account the current economic crises on top of the pre-existing Chinese rise and Islamic threat to Western culture and values, even if we are luck and are “granted with the gift” of Mr. Obama’s victory, I am nearly certain that the surviving global victims of the upcoming chaotic period of transition will inevitably result in a significant shift in the World Order.
