UN Hints Brazil May Grow a Mere 0.5% in 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom
Monday, 01 December 2008

Itajaí port in Brazil São Paulo, Brazil's stock exchange, the Bovespa,  suffered a heavy fall this Monday, December 1st, amid domestic and international pessimism. New studies see Brazil growing at a much lower rate, in 2009, than previously forecasted.

Bovespa's main index, the Ibovespa, went down 5.07% closing the day at 34,740 points. State-controlled oil multinational Petrobras and mining giant Vale saw their stocks reduced by over 7%.

A series of projections about the Brazilian economy released this Monday showed that economists are expecting a deceleration for the next year. The financial market, through a Focus report, is now for the first time forecasting a Gross Domestic Product increase (GDP) of below 3% in 2009.

A UN study says that Brazil may grow a dismal 0.5% in the coming year. And a report by investment bank Morgan Stanley suggests that Brazil may get into a recession early next year, i.e., going through two consecutive quarters of negative GDP.

The flood in the southern state of Santa Catarina, which has caused 114 deaths and left about 80,000 people without home, is also wreaking havoc at Brazil's exports.

According to the Foreign Commerce secretary of the Development Ministry,  Welber Barral, Brazilian exports fell US$ 370 million in November due to products that couldn't be shipped through the  Itajaí port, in Santa Catarina, which has been severely damaged by the rainfall.

"Itajaí's port," said Barral, "is extremely important. It is the country's second largest container port. It is much more important for exports than for imports. From it are shipped products with bigger added value, like manufactured goods."

Surplus

Trade surplus widened in Brazil in November as imports fell more than exports, the trade ministry said this Monday, December 1st.
Brazil posted a trade surplus of US$ 1.61 billion in November after a US$ 1.2 billion October surplus, government data showed, bringing to US$ 22.43 billion the surplus for the year to date.

Brazil's trade surplus has widened in six of this year's months and narrowed in five.

Exports fell to US$ 14.75 billion in November from US$ 18.5 billion in October while imports eased to US$ 13.14 billion from US$ 17.31 billion.

Investors are closely watching Brazil's trade balance for signs that sagging global commodity prices could sharply reduce exports.

Brazil's trade balance is expected to close the year at a surplus of US$ 23.6 billion, according to the latest central bank survey, having fallen in 2007 for the first time in seven years to US$ 40.04 billion.

Mantega found his big own ass : he still predicts growth between 4 and 5 % for 2009!!!!!
FEEL FREE TO SMELL IT AND LICK IT !
Feel Free to eat and swallow it !
This is what Mantega exspect from you and nothing else !

He did the same until two weeks before Lula re-election :
The first 9 months growth rate was wayyyyyyyyy below the 5 % target.
Of course at year end, hte year ended at much below the target.
No problem....Mantega changed the maths "methodology" to still show the 5 % !!!!!!

Lula promised a 5 % economic growth rate since he was elected !
Dont worry, he may deliver at whatever lies or maths & stats manipulation are necessary....with Lula Guarantee STAMP !
And if he cant cheat as much as he wishes...then of course it wont be due to his policies but due to others policies !
As usual ! Nothing new ! A classic Brazilian answer ! Dont worry ! Guaranteed !!!!!

Ohhhhhh....by the way...many economists are predicting from 2 to 3 % ! the problem is that they are reducing their estimates nearly on a monthly basis.
NOT A SINGLE ECONOMIST HAS YET RAISED HIS ESTIMATES FROM HIS PREVIOUS ONE...THUS FAR !
Therefore you can easily guess what would be the average of their future revisions....for the time being !
DOWN, DOWN AND DOWN....UNTIL some economists start to RAISE their estimates.

BUT DONT WORRY...ROBIN THE CROOK SAID A FEW MONTHS AGO THAT BRAZIL IS IMMUNE !
Short memory ??????
You should not !

Idiots will also remain idiots ! Same for liars and cheaters. Proven time and again !

The UN cannot find its ass!

The U.N will be the "8th king" very shortly. "IN OUR LIFETIME"
And there are seven kings: five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet arrived, but when he does arrive he must remain a short while. 11 And the wild beast that was but is not, it is also itself an eighth [king], but springs from the seven, and it goes off into destruction.

A recession is 2 negative quarters in a row. Not 0.5%. Negative, nada. The information from the UN is useless, look at Africa and all the UN has done there. Look at Darfur. The UN is a failed idea from another time. For the money it spends, billions it accomplishes nothing. Its datum is as useless as tits on a boar.

written by ch.c., December 02, 2008
Yessss....if for a specific country !
But for World recessions or not, it is 3 % and below..... annualized (12 months - not calendar)

And about "Look at Darfur. The UN is a failed idea from another time"
Yesss...true.
But then also look at Haiti with the U.N. MINUSTAH under the leadership of BRAZIL IF YOU DID NOT KNOW...and all THE NON BRAZILIANS soldiers are from EMERGING NATIONS !
Still Noooo peace ! Killings and abductions are the name of the game....despite the MINUSTAH budget is over US$ 500 millions....per year...paid by developed nations....spent by Brazil and el al...with Nooooooooo Results !!!!
Soldiers are accused of rapes, sexual abuses, sex with minors etc etc AND just like in Brazil...they of course get TOTAL IMPUNITY !!!!!

i JUST REMIND YOU that haiti population is 9 millions ! Therefore a security peace annual budget of 500 millions is not small at all !!! This of course doesnt include the food help programs, and the supports of developed nations to finance the haitian government - administrations functions !!!!

but....but...but.....with corruption at all levels.....money disappear ! Somewhat similar to what happens in...BRAZIL !

- Brazil has by far the highest poverty rate in the World...when compared to its GDP per capita !
- Brazil has 50 millions of UNDER NOURRISHED citizens, but is proud to export US$ 60 billions or so per year in agricultural products !
- Brazil is ranked has one of the World Worst Country for the crime rates, 6 - 7 times higher than the USA ! Nearly 2 times more than South Africa already one of the World Worst !
- Brazil is ranked 125th in the Doing Business Ranking !!!! A high bureaucracy totally inefficient is a guarantee of jobs creation...by definition !

I could continue the list of the brazilian magical...failures...if you want ! ALL PROVEN...OF COURSE !

In my view tits on a boar are more useful and effective than the Brazilian Model !

UN? What is the UN?
written by Falupa, December 02, 2008
I love listening to everyone's comments on this network. I think it is one of the best networks out there and it really provides you with some of the best feedback about what others are thinking. It is usually the responsibility of it's listeners to find flaws in the system. The UN is a terrible system I completely agree. They are only focused on building their own wealth!

Falupa is on point.! It is about wealth .. But more so Power and Control. As we will all see.

Joao
"Conspiracy" should just be considered "more of the Truth". It always takes effort to find "more of it". Usually deliberately "hidden". And takes a real "truth seeker" to notice it even if stares you in the face.
Lies are usually comfortable and convenient. As Ch.c almost always helps us to see. smilies/wink.gif

I agree with Falupa. There is a wide range of insight and humor on this site. I hope it doesn' t disappear.

Oh, btw,, Joao.. Everything I bring up is not of my own wisdom . I must make this clear. I am know prophet. ( as everyone is well aware) . Nor do I claim any special ability. Everything I say is Bible based. Nothing more , nothing less. I enjoy putting the pieces to the puzzle together. It's exciting. And it keeps me well aware that I, like every other human , has a part , albeit small in the makings of the future. The mind is powerful.. And this IS the battle we are engaged in.
The U.N is basically the modern "tower a Babel". An entity in opposition to God disguised as something meant to bring Peace to the Earth. Something NO EARTHLY entity can ever accomplish.
The mental challenge will be whether you believe this or not.
Stay tuned

The mind is powerful indeed. I am no prophet either, but the "Books" of all the religions have some good things to say and it is up to us to filter and interpret them in right ways. That is where the "Powerful Mind" comes into picture. BTW, I have read a bit about Hinduism as well as Buddhism also. Interesting religions and some how your line of thoughts seems to be closer to their teachings.

Enough of the religions for today. smilies/cheesy.gif

I don't know where you get your stats from Ch C...but you sure hate Brazil for some reason. Do you post to sites on other countries?

BTW, how old are you? You use exclamation points, question marks and emoticons like a 12-year-old.

Interesting you brought that up. There is SOME truth in all religions,(from a biblical standpoint) .That's the deception. There IS WATER in WINE.

17 And one of the seven angels that had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying: “Come, I will show you the judgment upon the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, whereas those who inhabit the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”

In most instances you have to "dig" for pure , potable , like from a well. As in ancient times. EFFORT is involved. It's a choice.
Most are lazy in this regard and settle for a cup of wine given them. It inebriates it's consumer at some point. And worse is a diuretic.
Enough of the religions for today

You always eventually say this.
But this is the problem in India at this moment.. Is it not? Quando voce acredita em algo que "nao presta" , these are the results. smilies/wink.gif You are spiritually drunk and you act a fool.
Joao, the subject shouldn't be wholly offensive. It is literally costing people their lives. Why shy away from the subject?
The true answer to this is because it forces each and everyone of us to look within.
And that's a courageous thing to do smilies/wink.gif

On Ch.c
written by dnbaiacu, December 03, 2008
Why drag poor Ch.c into the scene, when he is sitting in his own corner causing no inconvenience to anybody ?

I love Ch.c' s economic Truths. People need to be realistic. It is believing lies that hurts in the long run. Lies only TEMPORARILY stroke the fallen ego.
You have people today thinking that all that is going on is simple a "corrective cycle". NOT!!! They live in pipe dreams. It's usually those that can't stand the thought that they have been BAMBOOZLED. And only bescause they simply refuse to think OUTSIDE THE BOX. They prefer to follow "status quo". And it is sad. smilies/cry.gif smilies/cry.gif
Since when is anyone DOMINATED without a LIE being involved???? Could someone PLEASE answer that question.
So I don't understand all the apparent "aversion" to a so-called "conspiracy theory. If you believe in the Bible you should understand that a "conspiracy" IS IN EFFECT! And if you don't believe in the bible, just understanding how governments work (research, study) , you will know that "conspiracy" is real.
What's beautiful is that a believer doesn't have to wear himself out with so much "secular information" to come to the OBVIOUS CONCLUSION. smilies/wink.gif

  • Brazil Engaged in Another Olympics: Reshaping Its Image Before Games Open

Economist's cover on BrazilBrazil received a huge boost in its international image with its selection as the host of the 2016 Olympics, but it was really just the cherry on top of the overall recognition of the country's ascension to the ranks of one of the world's most important countries. Now, as it finally takes its place on the world scene, there has been a great deal of concern about what kind of image Brazil hopes to project, now that the world is really paying attention.

  • Iranian Leader's Visit to Brazil Takes the Gloss off Lula's International Image

Ahmadinejad meets LulaThe only good thing to say about the visit to Brazil of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, on Monday November 23, is that it was mercifully short and lasted less than 24 hours. Ahmadinejad had his picture taken being hugged by president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva who gave him a warm welcome and said Iran had every right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

  • Poor Women from Northeast Brazil Learn Joy of Meeting and Helping Each Other

The Northeast of Brazil has historically been a place of encounter and mixing between peoples. For millenia groups of indigenous people fished, farmed, migrated and sometimes fought along this large, fertile area.

  • Ahmadinejad's Visit: Iran, Honduras and Brazil's Hypocrisy in Dealing With Them

Ahmadinejad and Lula The Brazilian diplo-MÁ-cia (bad diplomacy) carries on its accelerated course towards the non-acknowledgment of human rights, although sometimes it takes pleasure in saying that it does precisely the opposite. The visit of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is another example of a diplomatic omission that verges on hypocrisy.

  • Lula Is About to Fulfill His Wish of Getting His Good Friend Chavez in Mercosur

Lula and Chavez On July 4, 2006, representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay met in Caracas to sign the protocol for the entrance of Venezuela into the Southern Common Market (Mercosur). After two and a half years, the protocol was approved by the legislative bodies of Argentina and Uruguay, and as of now it may be only days away from being ratified by the continent's economic megalith, Brazil.

Children from a Diadema band Some sectors of the fight against AIDS have suggested that Thabo Mbeki, the former president of South Africa, committed genocide through his absence from the fight against the illness in his country throughout his two terms.

  • Child Labor Went Down in Brazil, But 5 Million Underage Workers Are Still Way Too Many

Child labor in Brazil One hundred and eleven years after Brazil abolished slavery, the number of workers deprived of their freedom is still huge. They raise cattle, produce charcoal, sugar cane or timber. Some of them, most undocumented Bolivians, work in basements of small apparel factories in São Paulo and other metropolis.

  • Some Humility Would Do Lula Good. On Human Rights Brazil Has Long Way to Go

A prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil On November 7, 2009 a few friends and I had an opportunity to take a look inside a Brazilian jail outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. We were able to take some amateur footage of our experience on video (see link below). It's no surprise, of course, that the typical Brazilian jail lacks some of the functionality of those in North America or Europe, but our experience that day was quite shocking.
