Over Half of Brazilians Don't Expect Global Crisis to Hit Brazil PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom
Wednesday, 17 December 2008

25 de Março St in São Paulo Of every four Brazilians three are aware of the international financial crisis, which is considered serious or very serious by 84% of those interviewed for the CNI/Ibope survey on the fourth quarter disclosed December 15, in Brazilian capital Brasília, by the National Confederation of Industries (CNI).

However, to over half the population of Brazil (56%) the country will be little or not at all affected by it. This evaluation is a reflex of the perception of 43% of those interviewed that the country is more prepared for this crisis than it had been in the previous ones, despite 68% believing that this crisis is as serious or more serious than the previous ones.

According to the special chapter of the opinion poll, 75% of those interviewed knew of the crisis before answering the questionnaire. Another 23% said that the first time they heard about it was when the interviewer made the question (the remainder did not answer).

The researchers went into the field, in 141 cities throughout Brazil, between December 5th and 8th, and they approached 2.002 people. The margin of error of the research is two percentage points, up or down, and the trust interval is 95%.

To 35% of those answering, the crisis is very serious, whereas to 49% it is serious, 7% said that it is little serious and 2% said it is not serious at all. Another 7% did not know what to answer or decided not to answer.

In chapter "Perception of the Crisis", 46% of those interviewed believe that the international financial turbulence should affect the Brazilian economy little. Another 10% said that Brazil should not be affected. To 37%, the economy will be greatly affected (7% did not know or did not answer).

If the recent good economic conjecture made the evaluation with regard to the effects of the economy more positive than negative, it was not enough to keep Brazilians confident with regard to their personal condition.

Of those interviewed, 66% said that they greatly feared (24%) or had a little fear (42%) of being affected by the crisis. Another 3% answered that they have already suffered the impact of the crisis. One quarter (26%) of those interviewed said that they do not fear being affected by the crisis. (5% did not know or did not answer).

To 30% of those interviewed this crisis should be more serious than the previous ones and to 38%, it should be as serious as them. Another 21% of those answering said that it would be less serious and 2% said that it is not serious (9% did not answer or did not know).

Difficulties to pay already established debts were pointed out by 26% of those approached, and higher interest rates in the purchase of household appliances, vehicles or motorcycles were pointed out by 21% of them.

The loss of their jobs was the answer by 16% of those interviewed, difficulties in getting financing for home purchase was identified by 14% and the threat or risk of losing their jobs by 12%.

To 28% of those interviewed, the crisis should end in the second quarter of next year, 23% believe it should end in the first half. According to 13% of those approached, the crisis should end in 2010, whereas to 8%, it should end after 2010.

It's probably because there are so many poor Brazilians that they won't be affected by the crisis because they are already poor.

Despite my usual cynical statements....wait a second !
written by ch.c., December 17, 2008
there are things...YOU the people dont see. Not because you are idiot but because it is not your job or your knowledge or expertise.

You all probably believe that for the time being the Brazilian Currency has somewhat stabilized.
The answer is yesssss.....when looked against the US$ ONLY....but your currency is making NEW LOWS DAILY AGAINST the Euro, Japanese Yen and other currencies !

What is my point ?
Your currency is being slowly but surely DEVALUED against ALL MAJOR CURRENCIES OUTSIDE THE US$.

Is that good or bad ? Both
- Good.... because it will make your exports more competitive....FOR YOUR EXPORTING PRODUCERS. Meaning you will produce more, have more profits (or less losses) in LOCAL currency...but earn less IF LOOKED from..... another currency.
- Bad.....because most of your MANIPULATED stats especially in exports that you think you are so good at....are shown NOT in Local currency....but systematically in US$ !

Conclusion : YOU DONT SEE IT....BUT YOU ARE GOING TO PRODUCE MORE, GENERATE MORE PROFITS IN LOCAL CURRENCY.....THEREFORE WILL REVER ROBIN THE CROOK AND HIS GANG EVEN MORE WITH THEIR PROWESS.

Right ? Of course !

DOWN TO EARTH ....NOW :
You will not INCREASE YOUR COUNTRY WEALTH, CORPORATES PROFITS, INDIVIDUAL INCOMES.......WHEN COMPARED TO DEVELOPED NATIONS. YOUR ARE GOING DOWN...WHEN COMPARED WITH THEM !

End of Story :
- YOU ARE GOING TO GET POORER AND POORER...IF AND WHEN MEASURED AGAINST THE USA, EUROPE, JAPAN, SWITZERLAND, CHINA, INDIA, RUSSIA, SOUTH KOREA !
- By poorer....I mean not necessarily POOR but...POORER....WHICH IS NOT THE SAME !
- Your GDP will grow over time but the GDP is measured ALWAYS in LOCAL CURRENCY....NOT IN FOREIGN CURRENCY !
Otherwise you would have of course grown far more than the 4-5 % or so in the last few years....IF GDP GROWTH MATHS MEASUREMENTS WERE IN....US DOLLARS !

LAST BUT NOT LEAST :
IT IS A CLASSICAL TRAP WHERE POPULISM REIGNS ! You have the IMPRESSION that things go well....against your previous years percentage stats...but in reality you have A STEALTH DOWNWARD MOVE !!!!!

POPULISM ALWAYS END UP BEING TRAPPED IN THEIR OWN FILTHY GAME AND SHOOT IN THEIR OWN REAR...without you knowing not even feeling it....until you realize it and have tears, complaints, critics against the more developed nations !

IT IS ALL....DEJA VU...TIME AND AGAIN....TIME AND AGAIN !!!!!!
And who are the World Best in Populism ?

1) South America......followed by
2) Africa....followed by
3) Asia (EX Japan) - Australia

THEREFORE THE BRIC THEORY IS TRUE FOR.......ECONOMIC GROWTH RATE.....BUT UNTRUE FOR WEALTH REDUCTION BETWEEN BRIC (and also nearly all emerging nations)....... AGAINST DEVELOPED NATIONS !

SIMPLE AS THAT !

The "Best and the Brightest"
written by Ric, December 17, 2008
Talking heads on financial networks advised people to stay in the market right up to the day that the sell-off started;

The Smartest People in the World, at Yale and Harvard, lost 25% and 22% of their endowments in the last few months;

So where does that leave The Man in the Street? What the majority thinks about anything is not relevant and probably wrong.

So where does that leave The Man in the Street ?
written by ch.c., December 17, 2008
But the Man in the Street...doesnt invest in Brazil ! Having no money....how could he invest ?

You story is true for Harvard and Yale.....but...but.....so what ?
They have made over 20 % annually for years years and years ! Therefore despite what we read they remain enormously PROFITABLE...OVER THE YEARS....even after ONE YEAR LOSS OF 25 % !

With a big smile, let me say that even my pension fund (I chose Agressive) is down 15 %. The problem is that on the upside it rarely provides 15 % profits !

The bigger problem now is the MADOFF Ponzi Scheme Scandal...which could be anywhere bewteen 30 to 50 billion US$.
Even those that did not lost too much because they cashed in partially or totally before the BOMB surfaced...may just as well
GIVE BACK what they withdrew.
After all it was not Real Profits ! And the U.S. bankruptcy laws allows a judge to go back as far as...6 years..to those who cashed in
totally or partially !
Therefore not only those IN have lost a bundle, but those OUT...may have to give money back !!!!

Moreover, some Hedge Funds or Funds of Funds had put nearly 100 % of their assets with MADOFF. Some put 50 % ! Others 20-30 % !
They too will be sued due to A) lack of DIVERSIFICATION....if not stipulated CLEARLY in their disclosure document B) because of their due diligence failure of checking MADOFF structure...where the Audit Firm was a 13 by 18 foot office with basically ONE Certified Public Accountant....auditing well over US$ 17 billion !!!!! Come on...come on...this is not serious !!!!!

In my view, even the SEC will be sued this time. They were warned more than once over the years...since 1999 ! But did nothing...of course !!!! Whoaaaaa....just think about it !

And with a big smile....guess from where in Europe billions and billions were invested with MADOFF ???????
GENEVA - SWITZERLAND !!!!! TRUE !
The biggest hole here was with Banco Santander. They have a fund MANAGED FROM THEIR GENEVA BRANCH......that had around
US$ 6 billion....with around as much as 40-50 % with MADOFF !!!!! Ouch !
Plus of course many many other banks here or independent hedge funds also involved.
They miserably failed. What most people dont know is that THEY RECEIVED HUGE ANNUAL COMMISIONS RETROCESSIONS...FROM MADOFF...in order to invest with HIM !!!!!! But the same is as true elsewhere wether in the EU or in the U.S.A.
A U.S. billionaire in Palm Beach introduced a lot of his network friends to MADOFF over the years. What he did not said until the
BOMB came out was.....HE WAS PAID for every money that went to MADOFF. Not paid once...which could be normal in business practices. BUT PAID YEARLY FAT FEES ON THE AMOUNT HE RAISED AND STAYED WITH MADOFF !

I know from good sources, that the yearly RETROCESSIONS paid by MADOFF amounted to 2 -6 %----PER YEAR !
MEANING YOU RAISED FOR HIM LET SAY US$ 10 million within many clients and over time....YOU WOULD HAVE GOTTEN us$ 200'000 - 600'000...per year.....coming in fact from the same CLIENTS capital....OF COURSE ! Plus whatever MADOFF CHARGED...FOR HIM !!!!

It is FAR FAR FAR FAR MORE DARKER than what you can even imagine or read......for the time being !
Because of course all these retrocessions were NOT disclosed to the recipient investing clients.MEANING banks or Funds of Funds
also charged their own commissions and fees. Normal ! laugh !
And last but not least all these SIDE RETROCESSIONS WERE.....NOT DECLARED...NEITHER BY MADOFF...NOR BY THOSE WHO RECEIVED THEM !!!!!

There are layers of real dirts preciously hidden...so far !
As you can see, I also can be very cynical against Geneva or Switzerland OR THE EU OR THE USA....AS MUCH AS FOR BRAZIL !!!!!

But dont interpret my comments incorrectly. I am certainly not against TAX EVASION !
I AM AGAINST ROBBING THE CLIENTS. Because at the end money can be paid out ONLY FROM CLIENTS CAPITAL !
The more layers of fees there are, disclosed or not, the lower the overall return for the clients money.
And to further INCREASE THE COMMISSIONS ON THE SAME CAPITAL, but also to increase the net performance to the clients...of course LEVERAGE.... IS THEN USED !!!!

What a dirty world we live in !

  • Poor Women from Northeast Brazil Learn Joy of Meeting and Helping Each Other

Joined hands The small, coastal town of Condé is located just a twenty minute's drive from João Pessoa, the capital of Paraíba. The Northeast of Brazil has historically been a place of encounter and mixing between peoples. For millenia groups of indigenous people fished, farmed, migrated and sometimes fought along this large, fertile area.

  • Ahmadinejad's Visit: Iran, Honduras and Brazil's Hypocrisy in Dealing With Them

Ahmadinejad and Lula The Brazilian diplo-MÁ-cia (bad diplomacy) carries on its accelerated course towards the non-acknowledgment of human rights, although sometimes it takes pleasure in saying that it does precisely the opposite. The visit of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is another example of a diplomatic omission that verges on hypocrisy.

  • Lula Is About to Fulfill His Wish of Getting His Good Friend Chavez in Mercosur

Lula and Chavez On July 4, 2006, representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay met in Caracas to sign the protocol for the entrance of Venezuela into the Southern Common Market (Mercosur). After two and a half years, the protocol was approved by the legislative bodies of Argentina and Uruguay, and as of now it may be only days away from being ratified by the continent's economic megalith, Brazil.

  • Child Labor Went Down in Brazil, But 5 Million Underage Workers Are Still Way Too Many

Child labor in Brazil One hundred and eleven years after Brazil abolished slavery, the number of workers deprived of their freedom is still huge. They raise cattle, produce charcoal, sugar cane or timber. Some of them, most undocumented Bolivians, work in basements of small apparel factories in São Paulo and other metropolis.

  • Some Humility Would Do Lula Good. On Human Rights Brazil Has Long Way to Go

A prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil On November 7, 2009 a few friends and I had an opportunity to take a look inside a Brazilian jail outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. We were able to take some amateur footage of our experience on video (see link below). It's no surprise, of course, that the typical Brazilian jail lacks some of the functionality of those in North America or Europe, but our experience that day was quite shocking.

  • Brazil's Amazon Rainforest Policy Is a One-Way Road to Disaster

Trasamazonian road in BrazilDepletion of the Amazon Rainforest is not a new concern facing environmentalists, biologists, ecologists, and a growing number of the Amazonian indigenous peoples. For decades they have feared for the fate of the world's most biologically diverse and species-rich hothouse.

Geisy Arruda from BrazilGeisy Arruda made history this week in Brazil, but for all the wrong reasons. What began as a poorly planned fashion statement has become a worldwide tale. Geisy decided to wear a pink mini-dress to her private college in São Paulo state, and after that, all hell broke loose.

  • Brazil Police Use Press Coverage as Green Light to Kill and Invade Houses in Rio

Rio police in a favela A dispute over drug trafficking territory in Rio de Janeiro has intensified lately, leaving in its wake unprecedented acts of violence, such as the downing of a police helicopter in the northern zone of the city on October 17.  Three policemen died and another two were injured.  This event has drawn the attention of the international media, who are raising the issue of public security for the 2016 Olympics to be held in Rio.
