For your information why anyone here shouldn't be shocked about Ch.c racist remarks towards Brazilians... let me explain something about his country Switzerland... Well, Switzerland, the midget of Europe, made headlines some while ago because of its racist law about citizenship... According to its citizenship law for a foreign to be considered to be a Swiss citizen, one had to pass a serious of requirements including permanent residence in Switzerland for 12 years...

So far so good... the racist part of the law which made headlines across the world was, after passing all the requirements the Swiss-to-be had to be approved by the entire village that he or she lives in, in a secret ballot, or a show of hands.. And people were voting in favour for citizens from other Western European countries to be Swiss but disapproving other people from Africa, Asia and Eastern Europeans...

According to one of those people refused 3 times, a 19 year old guy who was born in Switzerland by Turkish parents, always lived in Switzerland and didn't speak Turkish who had passed all the requirements to be a Swiss 3 times but all the times it was disapproved in the vote process by his community because of his appearance and where his parents come from... The worst for him, according to him himself (and published by BBC NEWS) the worst was to go to school knowing that his classmates knew he had been disapproved to become a Swiss citizen (it's a public voting system after all) and they made jokes about him in school...

So I ask you, why be shocked with Ch.c remarks ??? He's Swiss...

About tourism: Switzerland has many tourists because its tourists are in transit from North Europe to Italy... See the survey about tourists in Switzerland, and you will see that apart from winter time, tourists are in transit to get to Italy as Switzerland is on everyone's way...

if you had seen your statistics you would know that your tourists spent just a while on the train heading to Italy sunshine... because Switzerland just gets tourism in the winter time, other seasons the country is boring... I've done that... went from North Europe to Italy and had to pass through Switzerland because it was on my way to Italian sunshine babe... but it was quick because the country is sooooo tiny...

About the cities hanking best... wake up man... everyone knows freezing cold countries score well, Canada scores well, so Sweden... they are so damn cold that people just go from work to home, home to work.. no one stays outside for over a few minutes... so of course it scores well... THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME .. and Switzerland scores well in best enviroment because no one goes outside..

You are so wrong... The problem wasn't because of the law itself..... The law to allow the community to vote and chose if someone should become Swiss or not is not racist... Those, and let me emphasize here MOST, of the Swiss people voted against people from Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europeans to become Swiss in the history of the country...

Im sure when the law was put in place, it was for the community to vote against bad people... but knowing that many people in Switzerland is like our Swiss friend here Ch.c they turned something which was meant to be good into a racist tool to be used against people from different color and appearance...

So the shame is not on the government but on the Swiss people who used this gap in the law for racism purposes...

Im not taking sides on this debate here... but I have to admit Sylon or whatever he's called has a point... Switzerland only gets tourists in winter time... and the country is beautiful in the winter no doubt... but because of the majority of European countries (including Britain, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Scandinavia etc) have crap summers... I don't see why people would head down to Switzerland and remain there... so I agree that apart from winter, tourists are only passing trough Switzerland and not really staying there but heading to Italian beaches... Italy rocks in any season though...

However, as I travel a lot, the image of America in the world is not a good one... our government spends a lot in ads and publicity outside America to show we are a country of multiculturalism and respect because of spoiled american little kids like you (especially this Double dot) who make jokes and disrespect people from Brazil, Latin America, Britain, etc AND We, taxpayers, have to pay the bill for our government to promote the image of us americans...

VOLTA REDONDA, Brazil, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Rust-colored iron ore trains still rumble through Volta Redonda, but workers in this steel town are feeling the strain as economic crisis slams the brakes on the industries that fueled Brazil's recent boom.
Plunging factory output and mounting job losses show that Latin America's biggest economy is being hit hard, only four months after President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva dismissed the market turmoil as a U.S. problem with the words "what crisis?"
In Volta Redonda, a center of Brazilian industry where few people's lives are untouched by dominant steel firm Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) (CSNA3.SA), the announcement last month of 300 job cuts has sent shivers through the community.
"This crisis isn't easy for anyone, but why are they firing fathers of families?" said Thiago Amorim da Cunha, a 22-year-old who is one of those laid off by CSN, among Latin America's biggest steelmakers.
Another 3,000 workers were put on temporary leave last month by CSN, which has about 8,000 workers at its main plant here about 90 miles (145 km) northeast of Rio de Janeiro, and the union fears 1,800 more jobs will go this month.
The popular Lula, who rose to national prominence as a feisty union leader, says proudly that Brazil created more than 1 million formal jobs last year while millions were lost in the United States and Europe.
But the job losses at CSN are part of a growing toll and the severity of the crisis has taken the government by surprise as industries all over Latin America reel from tumbling exports and scarce credit for businesses and consumers alike.
With Brazil now shedding jobs for the first time since Lula came to power in 2003, a sharp downturn could threaten his ability to get a hand-picked successor elected in 2010.
The economy lost 655,000 jobs in December, the biggest fall in a decade. A 6.2 percent yearly drop in industrial output in November was the worst since 2001, and double-digit plunges in Asian countries' factory output underscore how the crisis has spread from the United States and Europe to most of the world.

You have to understand that it's not all countries in the world which are officially in recession (not every single one) .... and losing jobs/investment does not mean recession....

China has lost thousands of jobs.. and as I saw in the news they will grow 9% this year... it was forecast over 11% but because of these problems we see worldwide they will grow less...

If a country is losing jobs but it is still maintaing 0.1 growth .. its not recession... the country is still walking forward.... but if a country's economy is shrinking -0.1% it's stepping back..

Firstly, I have no idea who this CELIO is and have no desire whatsoever to get to know

Secondly I strongly oppose the “regular practice” of utilizing multiple “user id” here (or anywhere else. Therefore, I assure you that I have never written any statement using any name other than my chose “alias = Augustus”

Finally, while I can fully understand and empathize with those who have written rather negative views & opinions vis-à-vis Brazilian expatriates living in the developed world, for I have met several of those who appear to have adopted a certain “air” of (perceived/fake) superiority regarding their country of birth (actually this happens to expatriates of any other country)… These ungrateful & immature individuals have the proclivity to “cuspir no prato onde comeram”

These unfortunate individuals are generally those who either have recently emigrated and/or belonged to the lower echelon of the Brazilian social class structure, and, perhaps because they were one day “poor” they appear to have pleasure of having acquired “something” and behave like the typical “nouveau-riche” never ending need to “show off” his/her recently acquired wealth…

While I understand that anything written in any blog cannot be taken at “face value”, all I may attempt to do is to assure you that I do not fall under any of the above categories.

If any of you happen to be interested, for all it’s worth, please note that, I have NOT left Brazil looking for “riches” or for a “better economic condition”, for I have always enjoyed the “good life” in our country, except for the political limitations of the “Ditadura Militar” of the time which (although it was necessary to prevent Brazil to fall into the grasp of Communism – and I’m glad they succeeded), there was always a problem where one might “disappear” if one failed to carry his/her id card when confronted by the Federal Police (there used to be “around” in the streets of Rio de Janeiro), thus representing a potential threat for a youngster under-age (16-17) going out partying until the wee hours of the morning (LOL)

Anyhow, I digress… Perhaps because I belonged to the “right class” and never appeared suspicious, I have never suffered from that type of affliction, even though my family members were always in despair, until I finally got home… I must confess that when I left Brazil, I did not like it, and had ALWAYS intended to immigrate since I was very young, for I never felt related to it: I hated (and still do) the hot weather, I do not care for samba or carnival, and – when very young – I could never think of anything other than London and Paris (which I felt were the places I belonged). In addition, I have always felt rather uncomfortable and socially guilty for the immense poverty which one could (and still can) see everywhere, with the possible exception of Sao Paulo.

As such, because of the heat, the culture, and the country’s poverty, I felt was always determined to leave, and did so as soon as I could (as soon as I reached the official age of 18 and had the documentation). Interestingly, although I still WORSHIP the city of London and the United Kingdom (which remain my favorite place on the planet), destiny brought me to New York City, which for very young man – particularly at that time – became a Fairy land with all the night clubs and the hot chicks…. LOL. In essence, I confess that my decision to come to New York (which turned out to be the correct one) was made solely for the wrong reasons of an immature, party-loving young man…

Fairly recently, however, I started developing a MUCH greater appreciation for our country and culture, and even felt guilty for the way I felt about Brazil when I left.
Therefore, I have started listening a bit more to our music (from the time I was young in Rio), reading Brazilian History and, even more recently I found BRAZZIL.COM which became the perfect site for me to start exploring, making contacts, and getting re-acquainted with our country, culture, issues and politics.

I hope this personal account suffice to clarify and residual question about my person or my intentions. If you continue willing to attack me, naturally it’s your prerogative…

Probably they got cooler after getting caught in the crossfire in the warfare between the gangs in Favela Rocinha.IMHO, this favela has to be shifted to NYC or more preferably to London, England.

The very existence of exceedingly disagreeable "characters" such as the creature who apparently answers by the name "Celio Borba", is another reason I left Brazil... Although my country of birth has so many great people with talent, character, and manners, because it also includes some - the extent of whose idiocy is great – I recall considering it intolerable…. Actually, it’s rather sad to witness this “kind” making efforts to attack and humiliate those he does not know, and for no good reason…

He reminds me of the kind of "Low-Life” elements generally found hanging around “botequins” in Rio & Sao Paulo, making fun of their betters based upon incorrect, or irrelevant assumptions...

I have dual citizenship too.. but mine is by blood.. not by escaping the slums from Brazil like you did...

However, born and bread in Sao Paulo, I saw no point in leaving as I have a good financial life here... I don't condemn people like you who are escaping poverty... I only condemn your new attitude to turn a blind eye towards your past and pretend you never came from a not so good social background in Brazil.. as there is nothing wrong with it... but now with new found "wealth" (probably a couple of dollars in the pocket) which makes you rich in Brazil (but just common in the U.S..) and send dollars to your family/friends in Brazil which in turn call you rich... and being called now rich by family and friends back in Brazil went high in your little mind...
