USP, Universidade de São Paulo Brazil's USP, the University of São Paulo, was considered the 87th best university in the world in the Webometrics ranking. Of the 500 institutions mentioned, USP, which climbed 26 positions in comparison with the list produced in July 2008, is in the first place among the Brazilian universities.

The methodology of the ranking considers the quantitative analysis of material made available on the Web, especially those related to processes of generation and academic communication of scientific knowledge, evaluating scientific activities, their performance and impact.

The top ten positions in the Webometrics study are occupied by institutions in the United States. They are, respectively: the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford, Harvard, California Berkeley, Cornell and Michigan Universities, the California Institute of Technology and the Universities of Minnesota, Illinois and Texas.

Among the Latin-American universities, the National Autonomous University of Mexico came in the first place, in 44th in the general list. After USP, among the 300 best in the world, came Unicamp (159th), the University of Chile (234th), the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (285th) and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (299th).

USP also rose ten points in its position among the 300 most researched repositories in the world. The second edition of the Ranking Web of World Repositories places the USP Digital Thesis and Dissertation Library in the 76th position.

Both the researches, promoted by Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), a Spanish public research organization, are disclosed twice a year, in July and January. Over 16,000 higher education institutions were analyzed worldwide.

Ohhhhh and about the Webometric rankings :

"Webometric indicators are provided to show the commitment of the institutions to Web publication. Thus, Universities of high academic quality may be ranked lower than expected due to a restrained web publication policy."

First of all, ch.c. faggot, shut the f**k up. your biased rhetoric bores the hell out of me.
Second, it's great that we (USA) have the best universities in the world, (above that corrupted swiss area), but to bad not many americans can't afford to go there. of course Ch.c. will laugh like a little girl again, but that's all what she, oh i mean he can behind the computer. In real, I'll bet with everybody here, it, Ch.c., is a wimp. Anyway, great to read that Brazilian universities are doing well and have the will do to better.

My midget country with a population of 7,8 millions has 6 Universities ranked within the World Best 200.
Not that bad...AT ALL....wether you like it, admit it, or not !

Last but not least :
My midget country is ranked WORLD FIRST for patents on per capita.....wether you like or not !

And about your insinuation of corrupted country....YOU BETTER CHECK THE CORRUPTION RANKINGS FIRST....JUST THE WAY YOU HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT THE USA HAVE THE WORLD BEST 10 UNIVERSITIES !!!!!!
And then write down the ranking of my country and YOURS....the USA you are so proud of. The country who wants to dictate
everything to everyone and continually end up shooting in their own rear at the end.
I just remind you that your currency LOST 75 % OF ITS VALUE against my currency.....since 1970 !

Why dont you come back on those 2 rankings of patents per capita and corruption ?
No doubt.. YOU WONT !
iF YOU DO I PROMISE TO SHIP YOU A DOZEN CONDOMS. Females condoms you could put in your rear !

I bet that you are a TV ! Male the day....TV at night !

Ch.c said: "THE USA HAVE THE WORLD BEST 10 UNIVERSTIES!!!!!!"

You are aware Harvard University now hands out A's to students like it's candy? It's rated as one of the top Ivy schools in the United States. My university is no where rated "top" like Harvard but I have a professor in one of my classes who boasts how many students (seniors no less) he gives D's and F's to.

Excerpts from Fox News story.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,39277,00.html

A Harvard University study issued this week confirmed reports of grade inflation at the prestigious Ivy League school, revealing that about half of the grades issued last year were A's or A-minuses.
The report tracked grades given at Harvard for the past 15 years and documented a steep increase in top grades in the last decade. A's and A-minuses accounted for 33.2 percent of all grades in 1985 but a staggering 48.5 percent last year. Failing grades, D's and C's made up less than 6 percent of all those given.

"I'm very glad the university is discussing the matter and is going to do something," Mansfield told Fox News in an interview. "It is a scandal -- and this is proof. It's bad for our reputation because we look so lax."
Some of the factors driving professors' generosity with grades were pressure to grade similarly to colleagues, fear of becoming known as a "tough grader," and pressure from students accustomed to higher grades, the Harvard study said.

A monkey could get an A in Harvard. It's a school for pumping out America's elites - you go to that school and your future is set.

  • Poor Women from Northeast Brazil Learn Joy of Meeting and Helping Each Other

Joined hands The small, coastal town of Condé is located just a twenty minute's drive from João Pessoa, the capital of Paraíba. The Northeast of Brazil has historically been a place of encounter and mixing between peoples. For millenia groups of indigenous people fished, farmed, migrated and sometimes fought along this large, fertile area.

  • Ahmadinejad's Visit: Iran, Honduras and Brazil's Hypocrisy in Dealing With Them

Ahmadinejad and Lula The Brazilian diplo-MÁ-cia (bad diplomacy) carries on its accelerated course towards the non-acknowledgment of human rights, although sometimes it takes pleasure in saying that it does precisely the opposite. The visit of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is another example of a diplomatic omission that verges on hypocrisy.

  • Lula Is About to Fulfill His Wish of Getting His Good Friend Chavez in Mercosur

Lula and Chavez On July 4, 2006, representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay met in Caracas to sign the protocol for the entrance of Venezuela into the Southern Common Market (Mercosur). After two and a half years, the protocol was approved by the legislative bodies of Argentina and Uruguay, and as of now it may be only days away from being ratified by the continent's economic megalith, Brazil.

  • Denying Education is the Other AIDS. And Brazil Is Guilty of Inflicting It

Children from a Diadema band Some sectors of the fight against AIDS have suggested that Thabo Mbeki, the former president of South Africa, committed genocide through his absence from the fight against the illness in his country throughout his two terms.

  • Child Labor Went Down in Brazil, But 5 Million Underage Workers Are Still Way Too Many

Child labor in Brazil One hundred and eleven years after Brazil abolished slavery, the number of workers deprived of their freedom is still huge. They raise cattle, produce charcoal, sugar cane or timber. Some of them, most undocumented Bolivians, work in basements of small apparel factories in São Paulo and other metropolis.

  • Some Humility Would Do Lula Good. On Human Rights Brazil Has Long Way to Go

A prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil On November 7, 2009 a few friends and I had an opportunity to take a look inside a Brazilian jail outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. We were able to take some amateur footage of our experience on video (see link below). It's no surprise, of course, that the typical Brazilian jail lacks some of the functionality of those in North America or Europe, but our experience that day was quite shocking.

  • Brazil's Amazon Rainforest Policy Is a One-Way Road to Disaster

Trasamazonian road in BrazilDepletion of the Amazon Rainforest is not a new concern facing environmentalists, biologists, ecologists, and a growing number of the Amazonian indigenous peoples. For decades they have feared for the fate of the world's most biologically diverse and species-rich hothouse.

  • Geisy, Brazil's Miniskirt Student, Should Try US College Next Year

Geisy Arruda from BrazilGeisy Arruda made history this week in Brazil, but for all the wrong reasons. What began as a poorly planned fashion statement has become a worldwide tale. Geisy decided to wear a pink mini-dress to her private college in São Paulo state, and after that, all hell broke loose.

  • Vigilante Groups in Brazil Trump Drug Gangs and Become Rio's New Authority

Brazilian favela in Rio The push of vigilante groups in Rio de Janeiro's favelas (shantytowns) in the last three years is the most important and alarming information of the just-released study by the Rio de Janeiro University's Violence Research Center (Nupev-Uerj).

  • Brazil Police Use Press Coverage as Green Light to Kill and Invade Houses in Rio

Rio police in a favela A dispute over drug trafficking territory in Rio de Janeiro has intensified lately, leaving in its wake unprecedented acts of violence, such as the downing of a police helicopter in the northern zone of the city on October 17.  Three policemen died and another two were injured.  This event has drawn the attention of the international media, who are raising the issue of public security for the 2016 Olympics to be held in Rio.
