Despite Constitution, Brazil Still Doesn't Have Right to Information Law PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom
Wednesday, 08 April 2009

Brazil's Veja Magazine At the opening session of the International Seminar on Access to Information, on April 1st, the Brazilian Minister of Internal Affairs, Dilma Rousseff, announced that a draft law on the right to information would be sent to Congress by the end of April.

Michel Temer, President of the Chamber of Deputies, and Gilmar Mendes, President of the Supreme Court, who participated in the opening debate, also supported the idea of adopting right to information legislation.

The International Seminar on Access to Information, held in Brazilian capital Brasília earlier this month, was organized by the National Forum for the Right to Access Public Information.

The Seminar brought together representatives of all three branches of government, civil society groups, media representatives and international experts to discuss the right to information.

The right to access information held by public bodies is recognized as a fundamental human right in the Brazilian Constitution. Despite, this, more than twenty years after the Constitution was adopted, Brazil has still not passed national right to information legislation.

Toby Mendel, Senior Legal Counsel for the international freedom of press organization Article 19, participated in the Seminar along with other international experts, including representatives of the Mexican Federal Institute for Access to Information (IFAI) and the Chilean Council for Transparency.

Mendel's comments focused on global trends on the right to information and key principles for right to information legislation. The Seminar also included a panel of Congressman and leaders of political parties to start a debate on the content of the law.

Article 19 and ANDI (an Article 19 partner working on media and children's rights) used the seminar to launch an online publication on using access to information as a tool to monitor public policies. The publication builds on discussions at a seminar organized by the two organizations in 2007.

Article 19 released a note saying that it welcomes the Brazilian government's commitment to adopt right to information legislation, something that they say is long overdue.

"We urge the authorities to deliver on these promises by adopting progressive right to information legislation, after a broad consultative process involving the public and civil society," the note says.

Why have a Constitution......
written by ch.c., April 08, 2009
...when laws are either bad or not applied when laws are good ??????

You abolished Slavery in your Constitution over 100 years ago ! Right ?
Do you apply that law...TODAY ?
How many slaves labors employers went to jail...as per your laws ?

Simple example...of Why have a Constitution....when laws are either bad or not applied when laws are good.

Same for your corruption and vote buying laws. Very few politicians end up in jail. The only non written law applied religiously in your country is....IMPUNITY.....WHATEVER WRONG WAS MADE ! Even your judges are free to interpret the laws as it pleases them.

Well said, Comrade. Would appreciate your further explanations on this issue citing examples. However, we should not forget that in many "Workers Paradises" the laws are already sharp and the Internet has become a threat to them (eg. PRC). Furthermore, even in a "democracy", there is no need for the state to impose laws to control the flow of information ( I think you meant this by abbreviating to FOI). The "free press" itself imposes its own rules and controls the FOI, depending on how much money or political favor they receive from the "state".

Coming back to this article, I find it a big coincidence that the announcement was made by a person who has vested interests in this issue.

The truth is stranger than fiction in a Democracy
written by JACK DANIELS, April 08, 2009
ch.c:
You are "preaching to the choir"

Senor da Silva:

About the internet, do you remember me explaining to you about how I am shut out of many web sites. I am not allowed to speak? Even the newspaper's censure me when I try to write them that the war is in violation of the UN charter as well as the Briand Kellog Pact of 1928. I am not allowed to say those things in this democracy. Even the crooked politicians won't let me say that I think their bailout is robbery of my money in violation of the constitution. Thinking about the constitution, the Right wing here in this great democracy has a program to discredit Barak Obama for trashing the constitution. They are now trying to make it look as though he has discarded the constitution...which he has. However, for the last eight years, Bush could do no wrong and there was never a sour not when he pushed the Military Commission Act, Patriot Act 1 and 2, as well as new rules regarding Geneva and nuclear proliferation and testing. But had anyone protested any of what he did, they would have disappeared and gone into a black hole like many do today. Of course, comrade, this is all happening in a democracy like yours.

Of course, no webmaster like yourself would ever admit that I was censured only because they did not like what I said.Did you know that many democracies lock people up for historical research. When they think they have discovered the holocaust is a bunch of crap and start to tell others of their research, they are lock up.
I wonder what they would do if I passed laws saying it was treason to say anything contrary to my version of the Trials of the Trotskyites. Suppose Ignacious Lula were declared a tyrant and the person who said it was shot dead?

Some democracy eh?

You have to realize that democracies all need to foment reams of lies to make the swill palatable to their people. For that, they need laws to adequately protect the truth from the people. They call those laws "Freedom of Information."

Slavery by another name
written by JACK DANIELS, April 08, 2009
ch.c

A guy just wrote a book last July.See Title. The Federal government under Theodore Roosevelt prosecuted but no-bananna.I think its coming back.

Also, the constiution says " All men are created equal, they are endowed by thier creater with certain inalienable rights, that among those rights are life, liberty and the persuit of happiness." In the initial attempt at ratification, most states refused because they did not want to abolish slavery. So, when it was ratified, slavery in America disappeared because "all men were created equal and they had the negro had the same rights to life, liberty, and happiness as everyone else. What a wonderful world we live in. The Spanish in South America were just as bad. But most of all, those money men in Geneva were behind the slave trade. The jews like Columbus flooded Sweiz und die Nederlands. Ja?

You have some really good points. Let's see some of (I hate to use the work primitive) less developed societies such as the M'Buti people. They don't have laws. What happens when someone lies or steals? They are immidiately a social outcast and since a person alone cannot survive in the forest, hardly anyone commits a crime. Have you read the Forest People. There are other societies that live on similar models, If I can still remember from my anthropology class, they live in Papua New Guinea.

Anyway, I don't agree when you say the Holocaust didn't happen. Sorry if I misinterpreted you, is that what you meant? I disagree because my family fled the Netherlands and my grandfather ended in Brazil.

Of course, no webmaster like yourself would ever admit that I was censured only because they did not like what I said.

Joao is a fine man, no many are like him here. You are not alone. When I complain or bash Brazil, I am a wannabe American. When I bash the U.S. for its war crimes, then I should go home and stay in Brazil. Clearly, Brazil and the U.S. does no wrong (which is a bunch of bullshit).

What other government system out there do you think can replace a democracy. We know quite well that in a democracy you vote directly to a representative, here we don't vote to anyone directly. We have an electoral college that decides who fits the presidential profile. I think that politics in America is extremely polarized, certainly we could have more parties, two isn't enough. You should create your own, you seem to have some good ideas here.

I agree with you, the bailout is a crime. Did you read the Rolling Stone article I gave you?

They don't have laws. What happens when someone lies or steals? They are immidiately a social outcast and since a person alone cannot survive in the forest,

Some tribes in the amazon will lie and even steal almost everything you own. In fact, it is an example of tolerance by primitive people in Brazil, in Ecuador, in Venezuela. I know some societies would like to kill you over the theft of a horse but there are others that contradict the western notion. However, I kind of disagree with you when you say primitive tribes will kill you for this or that infraction. I know many native tribes are primitive, but, darling, are you saying they are more primitive than yourself? Or the West?

In other societies or past societies, it was an honor to be eaten. that is different from the west. Instead, they have stopped their own practice and now eat animals instead.I think I sensed this with the Hebrew religion when Abraham took his son up to god as an offering. Didn't he want to eat the poor boy?

Before the turn of the 20th century, there were tribes that routinely killed eachother for the flesh of their fellow man. It is not our way. But it goes to show you the range of human behavior with which man can cope.

I was not actually talking about the holocaust so much as I was talking about the hypocracy of western society in passing laws against speech and prohibiting information that might differ from the prevailing view. I have myself studied history and know of the trials and the wars against ideas. The catholic church had a lot of people killed and supressed a lot of ideas because they differed from their positions.I remember the case of Galleleo Gallilei who forged a scientific algorithm and discovered a few things that the Church declared heresy. In the world of ideas and research, there should be no obstacles and clearly no roadblocks to peoples good-faith ideas.

I also read the trials of the Trotskyites and know who did what in Russia that the west blames on Stalin. I did not read about the history because I wanted to discount what the west said about this or that but for other reasons. But, in the meantime, I came up with conclusions that thoroughly discredit the prevailing view regarding Stalin. The same goes for the HOlocaust. I concur with Sir David Irving and that Bishop that the Holocaust is a manufactured event by the Jews. However, everyone has their mind made up about what really happened. It's like the Bible. Everyone thinks they know what it is about but very few have actually read that evil book.

We had a polish jew, 85 years old, who was on 60 Minutes put out by ABC. The piece highlighted his life. They have pictures of him all decked out in a german uniform. He's as happy as a lark showing off his uniform to his mother and his buddies.Back then.
Today, he throws a twist on the pictures claiming that he was the only survivor of the holocaust in his family and that he hid all these years because he knew they wanted to exterminate him. The NAZI soldiers in the pictures with this guy were proud of him and you could see it in the pictures. It never seemed to come accross anyone's mind that they even gave a second thought to his religion. They were just happy that he was in good health and happy. But to hear him moan on...you know he was just one big liar.

About the Netherlands, we have a famous jewish college around here and the Rabbi's wife was from one of the cities. She tells me in her biography that the Germans never mistreated her nor her family and she wondered what all the stories were about. She even added that the Germans and the Jewish Councils had protocols and agreements and that many Jews were allowed to go abraod to Palestine and South America unmolested. But to hear many jews here, they didn't go to avoid the war....instead, they "fled to avoid the ovens. This is the kind of crap that is perpetrated on the gentiles. Then these jews say "never again" and they go and do what they claimed the germans did to them...they go and do the same thing to the Palestinians. Who are these frauds? But, If I say these things across many forums, I am toast. They block me today before they I even get to first base on a lot of forums. So much for freedom of Speech. And then, if you are in Europe or in Canada, they lock you up for speaking your mind? Crazy?

Please, if you don't mind can you point to where I said primitive, I believe I said less developed societies, I don't like to use the word primitive and I believe I mentioned that.

This is what I said.

Let's see some of (I hate to use the work primitive) less developed societies such as the M'Buti people. They don't have laws. What happens when someone lies or steals? They are immidiately a social outcast and since a person alone cannot survive in the forest, hardly anyone commits a crime.

I was talking about the MButi, not the civilizations in the Amazon. Totally different societies. In that particular group, being a social outcast works against theft. Therefore, as you mentioned, it won't work for every society.

was not actually talking about the holocaust so much as I was talking about the hypocracy of western society in passing laws against speech and prohibiting information that might differ from the prevailing view.

JD, I think every side should have an opportunity to discuss this issue without the need of a law to stop it. It is like the global warming issue, scientist for it vilify the opposing side. I agree we need to talk, but really, if you want to do a research on this, you should join a Institution to become more credible. Right now, I don't really believe you and I am not sure you come as credible.

However, I must disagree with you about the Holocaust. You cannot take one ladie's opinion and believe it (you can actually do anything you want). My grandfather did not leave with the blessings of the Germans, he fled Europe, that is fact. He had his family home raided and bombed. That is a fact.

You can deny all you want, it happened, and my grandfather and grandmother escaped the gates of hell.

One of the most interesting sites I have ever seen. Just put your mouse on a city anywhere in the world and the newspaper headlines pop up... Double click and the page gets larger...Then you can either read the pdf version or click through to the paper itself in the upper right corner..
http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/flash/

Also, if you look at the European papers, the far left side of Germany will pop up as The Stars & Stripes (European edition, of course). AND, this site changes everyday with the publication of new editions of the paper.

What's it all about...
written by JACK DANIELS, April 09, 2009

What happens when someone lies or steals? They are immidiately a social outcast and since a person alone cannot survive in the forest, hardly anyone commits a crime. Have you read the Forest People.

Sorry, I did not read the Forrest People and I am only slightly aware of the Pygmy race of people whom I consider to be more advanced than many people on this board. I know that they are a people who must work intimately together in the forest much like the Songai? people who are our masters and from whom we were devolved. In their case, it is life and death matter in so close knit a community as they are. To know that you can trust your brothers means your life hand on a thread if they are false. In addition, they have many pitfals from soldiers who think they are monkeys and predate upon and cook them for food. There are others who exploit them so badly that they have used the forest as a gheto. Still,in extreme cases, the group may ostracize an individual, forcing them to live alone in the forest or nearby town for a period of time, eventually allowing them to return to the group if they have mended their ways. But, I was trying to point out that killing, stealing, and lying are not actually crimes that we in our culture have circumscribed with laws and to lock people up or to execute them. I was merely trying to show that information, true or false, must be allowed to flourish and that there is an evil in Democracy when people are locked up for their views. But, more importantly, another affront is that a minority, the Jews, have been able to dictate pernicious laws that violate our own constitution and mock the most basic freedom, to communicate and express ideas freely. Not only do these laws implicate them, but it implicates our democracy and our sense of fair play.

Shelly
About the m’Buti laws, Customs are laws. In fact, their customs trump written law. The M'Buti people like the Amazonians or the Tianis or any number of pacific islanders have thousands of customs to live by. We primitives, not me, have obscene laws or none at all. We cannibalize each other. Then, we promote a god to substitute for law to reprieve us or forgive us of our crimes. Civilized man is so uncivilized...don't you agree. Somebody said that a law where there is no punishment attached is no law at all. Those on Wall Street and in government have gotten away with many crimes…and Israel is getting away with genocide? So why should any of us give a damn about the holocaust if nobody in Israel will suffer the consequences of their murder and depredation of the Palestinian people? Just the other day, a bunch of settlers moved into a part of Jerusalem and murdered 3 occupants of an establishment that they wanted. The others fled but their crimes are obscene.

I agree we need to talk, but really,

Shelly:

I have not come to my views by doing research nor am I interested in exploring the holocaust. I happened to be exposed to the Nurenburg Trials and know many of those issues and I happened to have read personal accounts and battles of Leningrad and Sevastapol and different ideas that flourished when the war was going on. I have read the ambassador accounts and stories of people who were there on the scene in WWII as well as a lot of biographies. I know there was a lot of anti-semitism in Germany but no more than in Russia or in America. But I also know the role the Jews of Poland and Ukraine and many Councils worked hand in hand with Germany, as they should have since they were an occupied country.
They were no different than the Vichy government or many people here in America who worked closely with the British in the War of Independence.

But, after the war, many Jews fled Poland and Ukraine knowing they had worked for the wrong side and that Russia would be unforgiving. They came to this country with all sorts of concocted stories. But, heaven forbid, have you ever heard any Jew claim he worked for the Germans? No, the story is that they were all exterminated. Yet, if you should go to the nearby museum for holocaust rememberance, there are more than 10 million jews that have visited. What the hell are they doing here in Philadelphia if Hitler exterminated all of them?

And, then, on top of that, you come across honest people who were in Treblinka or in Auschwitz or in other camps and say to you to your face “the holocaust is a bunch of crap.” “The Spielberg movie is so far off the mark, it’s unbelievable [oder, vergeben sie mir, “unglaubable!” .

I am no scholar or researcher but I know bullshit when I hear it.

" holocaust is a bunch of crap and start to tell others of their research, they are lock up."
NORMAL....! It would be like saying...Pearl Harbor attack was a U.S. invention, or that Germany never ever was at war and never ever invaded anyone ! What about the pictures, movies, tons of bones found in gas camps ??????

" All men are created equal, they are endowed by thier creater with certain inalienable rights, that among those rights are life, liberty and the persuit of happiness."
In Brazil national anthem and constitution they say something similar !!!!!!!!

Is the USA a democracy ? Noooooo just another Banana Republic with only 2 political parties. Whatever they say is right and everyone should follow...is by definition NOT a democracy....until proven otherwise.
It is just a bunch of fatty & fluffy bodies, feeded with hamburgers, wearing half jeans, more and more caps without center because no more money now (smilies/cheesy.gif) for all their life. Thus they can only show their muscles
with their war toys and army costing US$ 500 billion...per year....to threaten the others.

Ohhhhh they also IMPOSED to the world the GAAP practices, meaning Generally Accepted Accounting Practices.
Now we know with their audit firms, the only ones on earth that are tolerated, how good was their GAPING practices in banks and insurances accounting !
And their regulators, the World Best...of course, audited and found nothing wrong with Madoooooff...until Mad-off HIMSELF revealed it was only a big scam for decades...because he could not cheat any longer....there was no money left anyway !!!!!!!
And everyone is MAD & OFF----now.

Ohhh and sure...their CIA (Central Idiots Agency) had irrefutable proofs that there were WMD in Iraq. Still not found 7 years later
and US$ 700-800 billion spent to find them !
Not over, these great CIA people and army have not found yet the original Obama....in Afghanistan, after 7 years and a few hundreds billion dollars spent for tens of thousands Sheriffs with a mandate of finding him...DEAD OR ALIVE !
Eventually Bin Bin went for a U.S. surgery, asked a new passport to the CIA, changed his name from OSAMA TO OBAMA, and now
became the U.S. President...elected by the U.S. citizens.
What are the hundreds of billion dollars spent in America for anti-terrorists gadgets going to do against the President of the USA ?
Arrest him ? Doubtful !
Now the danger is no longer in Afghanistan. It is at the White House !
No doubt that Ohhlala.... aka Osama Bin Bin.... is going to do great damage to the USA and elsewhere !
He is alsready planting the time bombs that will explode in 3-5 years time. How ?
Wellll this a secret for now that only the Central Idiots Agency know !

America also miserably lost against nearly non armed poor farmers in Vietnam war, despite their napalm bombs, not only burning forest trees ! And then they accuse Brazil............. of deforestation ! Typically American !

And what about their vacation in Somalia ? Wellll....they were just humiliated...as usual !
Keep pride America, keep pride ! What else can they do ?
THEY ARE THE BEST...OF THE WORST !

Dont quote me badly, the EU is NOT any better !

Viva America. No doubt they will shoot in their rear as they always did, sooner or later !
In the meantime they should print a few more dollars rather quicly. They could then afford to lengthen their half length jeans and fill the center of their caps. China would be very happy to fill that order. Brazil too....they will export more cotton to China !

The Pygmy and the M'Buti are the same people. Pygmy is a more known name.

So why should any of us give a damn about the holocaust if nobody in Israel will suffer the consequences of their murder and depredation of the Palestinian people?

That is why we should vote for politicians, like Obama, to demand that those who committed a crime against the Palestinians civilians be brought to justice. Not giving a damn is not the answer, and by not giving a damn you fall into the mind game of not caring about any genocide. I don't see you crying foul for the genocide of the American Indians. We still celebrate Thanksgiving, when many natives were exterminated by various forms. You seem to have a beef with Israel, try to separate the people and those who govern the country. You are not responsible for Bush's decision to invade Iraq, the American people have spoken: The Republicans are out.

That are genocides going on all over the world right now, as we speak. What we can do, is mobilize, right to the members of congress (believe me they want to keep their nice, cushy job), and demand justice. If people were not brought to justice, then it is up to the UN or any other organization to bring the issue to the limelight and demand a closure. What cannot happen is the denial of mass extermination of the jewish people.

if you should go to the nearby museum for holocaust rememberance, there are more than 10 million jews that have visited. What the hell are they doing here in Philadelphia if Hitler exterminated all of them?

What the hell are they doing here in Philadelphia if Hitler exterminated all of them?

I think you are trying to be comical, right? I like satire, but it has to be well refined.

Have you actually looked at the countries where the visitor come from? A lot of visitors to the National Holocaust Museum come from Israel and Europe. The Israeli government has a program for school children and they visit museums and ghettos in many other countries. The NYTimes has a piece today on Warsaw ghetto and the Jewish extermination, it is worth a read. There are some from South America and plenty from the U.S.. Also, how can you generalize that 10,000 people are of Jewish heritage? They could be anyone, Joe the Plumber as far as I know or Greek Orthodox.

I guess what you should do instead of carrying such hatred for a group of people who has don nothing against you, is to reach out and visit the museum near you home. Then you can ask to figure out each visitor's country of origin, nationality, religion, etc. then you can come up with a sensible well informed conclusion. You seem to look at only one side of the story, there are at time those who see themselves as victims and/or aggressors, there are always two sides of a coin, always. To negate history just for the sake of it, it is neither clever nor helpful.

Joao, I answered some of JD comments, at the start of my previous thread. As to the free speech restriction he is someone right.

Now going back to the latest G20 on tax havens and offshore countries.
Hopefully you saw the list of totally clean countries, etc etc.
Here it is
http://www.oecd.org/dataoecd/38/14/42497950.pdf

Hopefully you pay attention that
- the USA are totally clean despite having the state of Delaware, Nevada
- China is totally clean despite having Macau and Hong Kong
- UK is totally clean...of course
- Isle of Man, Guernsey, Barbados, Cyprus, Jersey,
- And the UAE are totally clean of course, despite they already have created tax havens.

As to the 4 "black list" they ALL already have been taken out....after the G20 meeting.

WHAT A JOKE !

And funnily, the mega country BRAZIL is not even in one of the group lists ! Just like if it did not exist !

Hi Shelly,

Just a brief comment:

To negate history just for the sake of it, it is neither clever nor helpful.

To negate the history written by the "Victors" can bring in lots of headaches to people like Comrade Daniels, Ch.c, myself, etc; But...But...., it is worth digging into the past history and question the veracity of the "victorious historians". I think that is what Comrade Daniels and Ch.c are doing, though Ch.c is not that well informed about the history. He himself confessed a few months ago that he is not familiar with the history of his own country.

While are reminded so much about the Holocaust, Genocide, etc; almost every day, we do not hear much about the atrocities committed by some "democratically" elected governments during the WW2 on their own citizens because of their ethnic origin. Let me give two examples:

1) All the Americans of Japanese descent were interned by their own government.

2) Even though they were not interned, the Brasilians of German origin from the interior of the Southern states were discriminated by our own government because they did not have adequate schooling system in the isolated communities they lived, had blue eyes and couldn't speak prim and proper Portuguese. These "Blue Eyed Devils" had emigrated to Brasil almost 100 years before the WW2, never had heard of Hitler and were minding their own business tilling their lands and planting "Batatas" until some "authorities" "discovered" that they were all Hitler´s spies

My whole point is that if someone questions history, he is classified as a Communist , Nazi, anti-Jewish, etc; by the so called "Scholars" of history who go on a with hunt. That is one of the reasons, I like to hear Comrade Daniel expressing his alternative view of the history. He has made some interesting points and it is worth listening to his opinion.

I never said he doesn't have good points and off course he is entitled to his opinion.

I never said that there is one side to the story.

What I have said is that anyone wanting to find out more about history, should and must do his/her own research on both sides of the issue.

Genocide continues to happen, according to the US Holocaust Museum, the term was coined around 1944 and the UN says:

[G]enocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

As per the definition, the Brazilian government continues with the genocide of the indigenous people in Brazil. Around the world, such cultures are at high risk of extinction. Instead of focusing on one group only, I just think it would be better to point out that in the US, we still celebrate the genocide of the indigenous people.

If you celebrate Thanksgiving, you celebrate the mass murder of the natives.

If you don't believe this is an hot topic in the States, read the following link.

I do not think that it is only the Brazilian Government, dear. The governments all over the world. Comrade Daniels would have more to say, as in one of his entries, he wrote about the superpowers going after the natural resources, regardless of the borders. For example, not so long ago, the Russians invaded Afghanistan and with the aid of U.S. of A, Taliban managed to thwart their attempts to conquer their country. It became quiet for a while and then the U.S. , with the objective of "hunting for OBL ruthlessly", are trying to conquer that country. My question: Why is Afghanistan so important for the Russians, Americans & the Brits ? I can assure you that they are not interested in the welfare of the Afghan women.

Both Ch.c and Comrade Daniels have made some very good points. I don't think that they are anti Jewish or Bolsheviks. On the country, they seem to believe in ASP´s "Capitalism with Conscience" .

"If you celebrate Thanksgiving, you celebrate the mass murder of the natives."

WTF??? I celebrate it because I am a Mayflower decendant. You think my direct ancestors from mother to son to son to son to. . . all the way down to my granddad, mother and I were murderers? Think again. 1620 til now is a damned long time to carry the sins of one's forefathers. They didn't do it, those that came after did. If it had not been for the indians I wouldn't be here right now - do I seem to you to be ungrateful in giving of thanks?

Oh dear, did you get your underwear twisted again?

What is going on with the Palestinian people is an atrocity. There are Jews against this did you know that? Or are you just too thick in the head and only reads one side of the history ? I am not surprised since you seem ALWAYS to look at every issue from one angle.

Now, sunshine, where were you and your beloved Brazil during the last genocide against the Palestinian people? I don't see anyone in Brazil protesting against this or against the violence in your own country!!!

But then again, you cannot be impartial enough to say that both sides have suffered a lot. You do not have enough brains cells to see things as they are: Both countries must stop the aggression.

Any agreements must acknowledge the suffering of both people; however, I know for sure that some terrorist organization will fire rockets into Israel. Even during the supposed "CEASE FIRE", Hamas continued firing rockets into Israel.

I know Israel can keep its promise, can the Hamas promise NOT to bomb anyone?

Israelis and Palestinians must come to terms that neither will vanish nor live peacefully until they can agree to live side-by-side and RESPECT each other.

Do you really know the history of your country or are you repeating the garbage taught by your civics teacher?

You can celebrate Thanksgiving all you want, but you should also know how the natives of this country feel. Celebrate Thanksgiving for all that it is, a celebration of mass murder.

I have the GREATEST respect for the natives in this country. I feel for them because I know what it must have been for my ancestors to be put in gas chambers. My grandfather escaped the gates of hell, but not some of his own family members. The natives weren't put in gas chambers, nevertheless, the genocide can no longer be hidden--thanks to the internet.

Simple, your school books doesn't mentioned the word genocide. Why? Care to explain?

You don't have to stop celebrating Thanksgiving, just continue with your ignorance, but at least NOW you know some history and know how the First People feel about it.

Thus, according to Ward Churchill, a professor of ethnic studies at the University of Colorado, the reduction of the North American Indian population from an estimated 12 million in 1500 to barely 237,000 in 1900 represents a "vast genocide . . . , the most sustained on record."
http://hnn.us/articles/7302.html

Simple, did they teach you this in school? I guess not! I am sure you believe that smallpox was introduced by accident, right ? How cute!!!

Have you heard of Bartolomeu de las Casas? I am sure he will be a good read. Although he talks about how the Spaniards treated the natives, the English were no different.

Joao:

It appears that the Native Indians have to send back all the white, black, green, etc; settlers to their original lands of their forefathers

I don't think that is really what they are asking. The natives in Brazil and in the US suffer from the same issue: bigotry, racism, and stolen lands.

I get the feeling that Shelly herself is not a jew, but her limp dick gay husband is. Likely, he demands their little mongrels to be raised as jews and therefore, Shelly has become the super jew!

Our boys are part north american indian, used to be taken to the local Pow Wows when they were young to hopefully form an understanding, appreciation and bond with their brethern in spirit that collected here locally. Neither they nor those with whom they were introduced seems to have had any problem with the murderous nature of my genetic background. Sad note that another child we would have taken to be as our own had indian heritage from the wrong side of the border thus the laws were enforced and he passed from home to home to home to home as his tribe would not relinquish their rights to not allow him to be adopted by the White Devils. Considering their riches made off the casinos they have the right to operate were more than adequate to support that child we don't understand why they never took up and excercised their other right which was to find him a home and support him themselves within their own community.

Let be begin saying that you are right, I don't know a lot, but have seen and read enough and met the people from the Lakota nation to know how they feel. First hand account from the tribe during the Native American celebration last year at GMU. The Lakota people are very poor and have all sorts of issues with alcoholism and mental illness. Also, my husband's uncle-his aun'ts husband is a Cherokee, and live in Santa Barbara. Therefore, not only do I have experience with at least one of the Sioux council of fire, but also the Cherokee. My husband's uncle has a brother who lives on the reservation. He left for and became a very well know architect in his field. He lives quite comfortably in CA, but have said that his people have suffered a lot.

I think there needs to be a reconciliation on both sides, not all groups of native people are as marry go round as you would like to portray here.

Or are you implying that the Lakota people are liars?

nor one locale has all what it is to know or claim or teach that which we all should have in our hearts. The algonquins did their thing with respect to xenophobic behavior with a vengence on "intruders" to their lands. They did otherwise but similar when "sweet talked" or bought off by other's meaning to do such but too "clean" to get their own hands dirty. Cherokee pushed to Santa Barbara? Yes, there and everywhere along with the Lacota (but not exactly to the same place - no mix) - these peoples have been maligned in the classic "westerns" of hollywood fame but did not come from those places. Check what happened to the Blackfoot near to where I took solace in the woods in my youth. You can "feel" their spirit there still to this day.

Plagued with alchololism and mental illness you say? What if our dear A. Brazillian has his way and roots out all "backwards" "semi-human" indigenous peoples from the amazon basin to "give" them an education (by force if necessary) as he says has to be done? Wouldn't that be like the bible thumpers did to most of Canada? (Which comes along with bringing real plagues and diseases they had no protection against as well "good" intentions expressed by stealing their childeren away to force an education upon them as Abe has proposed many many times over for the "correct" course of action for Brasil to follow).

Not only alcoholism, but domestic violence. We collected new toys for the children of the reservation, new clothes, and some first aid kit. I don't agree with A BRZL. In the end, most natives feel pressed to leave the reservation because they cannot live or cultivate the land any longer.

The most efficient way to extinct a native culture is to introduce it modern civilization values.

Brazil and the U.S. are partners in crime.

Shelly, you are a typical hysterical Zionist bullshitter. Israeli Zionists stole and keep stealing land from Arabs. Anyone who seriously learn about the birth and maintenance of the Israel State can find out for themselves. I don't need to say that your Hebrew language is a completely phony one, reconstructed with the wreckage of an ancient language. What you have there in Palestine, is a state built with the blood of innocent people, victimized by the inferiority complex Jews have developed on account of the discrimination they suffered in Europe as second class citizens. Then Hitler came and you use your suffers to justify every atrocity you do. Your suffer in Europe and with the holocaust does not justify any single atrocity Israel does in Palestine. Your arrogance, lack of principles, disregard for International laws (legal, humans rights) were only possible because you are under protection of authoritarian imperialistic nations, once the United Kingdom and now still the USA with Ovava. Do you have the slightest clue why a sound civilization should combat authoritarian nations like Israel? If you don't, we will witness the rise of a brutal Hitler-like nation that is Israel and the USA! Israel is doing to Palestinians exactly the same Hitler did to Jews, ethnic cleansing. No matter what your books, and newspapers say everyday in Israel, they will not change the true. You can believe in your lies as much as you want and still there will be the truth whether you like it or not. All I know is what you have there, in the Palestine land, a nation built through injustice, lies, murders of innocents and robbery. Do you want to live with that? If not, return the land to the original owners. Do you remember the story of Rachel Corrie? http://www.rachelcorrie.org/

Stop the aggression? You don't even leave alone people who are not in this life to defend themselves! Who will believe you? BTW, you are a Brazilian, from father, mother and grandparents from both sides. What difference do you make? All in all, with your attitude, you are just as toxic as the ones who do good only to themselves.

Portuguese is what then? A phony language!!! Wow, Adriana, you are dumb to the power of 10! What about English ?

I was going to answer you on the same token, because I believe you are someone that I feel sorry for, I am going to answer you and hope to enlighten you during this exchange.

All languages, exist today because they evolved from basic symbols and concepts. The fact that Hebrew is a Semitic language of the Afro (Africa)- Asiatic (ASIA) family doesn't mean it is phony. I thought you new English ( ;-) ) and could come up with complex ideas and vocabulary usage. Not quite. If you were a linguist-which you are not, otherwise you would never call a language phony, you would be able to notice that there are two types of Hebrew, Classical and modern.

Hebrew is one of the oldest languages in the world, hence there is nothing contemporary about it. Let me enlighten you. In the beginning, Hebrew was called Proto-Canaanite Pictographs, then (take into consideration the leap in history) it comes the Phoenician script, Proto-Hebrew , and the Samaritan Script. This period is critical to the language because the Samaritans consider themselves the "real Jews", while the other group ADOPTED the Aramaic alphabet. There are two separate paths to Hebrew, and as you will see, the Jews were told by Ezra to adopt the Aramaic alphabet. Why? Do a research and find who he was. If you know anything about the Hebrew language, you will also notice that the Samaritans are still holding on to the Proto-Hebrew. The reason for ADOPTING ARAMAIC has to do with history. I will give you a clue, where were the Jews around mid 6th century BC?

The key to this answer can probably be found using Wikipedia, a simple tool for fools like you!

Anyway, after the Exodus from a certain place in the world--->CLUE< The language evolved once again, into the Classical Hebrew, then into Modern Hebrew. There is also Rashi Hebrew, not a spoken language, but rather it is used in scholarly texts. The main reason for the switch from Samaritan to Proto-Hebrew has to do with religion, economics, and geo-political situation of the Chosen People during the mid 6th century B.C.

Hebrew and Greek texts were read by the great scholars of our time, transliteration of Hebrew texts into Latin were done by many intellectuals, such as Flavius Mithridate.

The transition went from Samaritan to Classical and It should go like this:

Primordial (pre-Caananite), Proto-Caananite Pictographs, Phoenician Script, Proto-Hebrew Script, The Samaritans Script, Classical Script, Modern cursive. As mentioned previously, Rashi is not spoken, but rather used in texts.
