International Symposium on Social Development Brazil will be hosting from Wednesday, August 5, to Friday, August 7, the International Symposium on Social Development. The encounter's goal is to analyze the advances and challenges found by the emerging countries in overcoming poverty and inequality. Another topic to be covered:  the part played by nations in improving the living conditions of their populations.

The opening of the symposium should include the participation of the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, of the Minister of Social Development and Hunger Alleviation, Patrus Ananias, and the Chief of Staff, Dilma Roussef.

The main theme of the panels is "Social Policies for Development: Overcoming Poverty and Promoting Inclusion". Among the speakers will be representatives from Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia, where public models and policies are in practice.

The panels should be coordinated and commented by several Brazilian ministers. In the end, there should be a debate with Brazilian and international researchers, representatives of the organized civil society and foreign guests.

In the panels on Thursday, the themes covered should be topics like "Poverty, Inequality and Social Vulnerability in the face of the Crisis", "Poverty and inequality in metropolitan areas: dimensions and perspectives for social inclusion" to be commented by the minister for Justice, Tarso Genro, and "Social Protection and Promotion in Developing Countries: tendencies and new perspectives in the face of the Crisis," with Health minister José Gomes Temporão.

On Friday, for example, the minister of Agrarian Development, Guilherme Cassel, should mediate the panel "Experience for Protection and Social Promotion in Developing Countries" in which different practices for the structuring of social promotion and protection networks should be presented.

"overcoming poverty and inequality" ?????
written by ch.c., August 06, 2009
Somewhat strange for Inequality...knowing that Brazil has one of the World Highest Social and Wealth Inequality !

Even more strange for Poverty in view of your GDP per capita, which is one of the highest for EMERGING countries, that the country still has a HIGHER poverty rate...than many emerging nations not as wealthy (per capita) than Brazil is !

Instead of telling what others should/must do...you better COPY WHAT/HOW THEY DO ! No doubt that the Brazilian Poverty & Inequality....will be reduced at a far higher speed !

Same for Education and Infrastructure ! YOU LAG BY A WIDE MARGIN NEARLY ALL EMERGING NATIONS ON A GDP PER CAPITA COMPARISON !
Many articles with stats have been written on these subjects, including in this site !

Simple as that and I challenge anyone to prove me wrong !
