Brazil Knows Everything There Is to Build an A-Bomb PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom
Tuesday, 08 September 2009

A-Bomb According to an article in Sunday's edition of Rio's daily Jornal do Brasil, Brazil has the necessary knowledge to build an atomic bomb . The statement is based on a doctoral thesis presented recently at the Military Institute of Engineering IME.

There has been no official comment on the news but the United Nations International Atomic Energy, IAEA, has expressed an interest in the publication, according to the Brazilian press.

In the thesis "Numerical simulation of thermonuclear detonations in fusion-fission hybrid environments operated with radiation", physicist Dalton Ellery Girão Barroso interprets physics and mathematical models of the W-87 warhead developed by the United States.

"You don't need to make the bomb," says Barroso. "You just have to show that you know how to do it."

Part of the thesis was recently published in Brazil in a book with several contributions, "Physics of nuclear explosions", although the hard core of the academic work remains in the dark well protected by IME, according to Jornal do Brasil.

A Brazilian Foreign Ministry spokesman quoted by Agence France Presse said that there was "no secret" around this thesis, as it has "apparently already been published in a book". But Brazil is a signatory to the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty and it respects the agreement," he said

According to Jornal do Brasil, the publication of the book last April triggered the interest of the IAEA, which allegedly requested additional information about the book to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense

Apparently IAEA concluded that the models described in the academic thesis and the book could have been practiced in a lab and this would support suspicions that Brazil has been advancing investigations on how to build a nuclear bomb.

In July 2007, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced the revival of the nuclear program in Brazil, with the completion of its first submarine nuclear propulsion and recovery, after 20 years of interruption, the construction of its third plant.

However, last week in a long interview with France Press, President Lula da Silva recalled that Brazil "is the only country in the world which specifically bans nuclear weapons in its Constitution, so it's not the will of the president, it's in the Constitution."

This Monday, September 7, Brazil's Independence Day, Lula hosted his French counterpart, Nicholas Sarkozy and signed a US$ 9 billion military cooperation agreement with Paris that includes among other things, Brazil's first nuclear submersible and four conventional ones.

BRAZIL MAY REQUIRE OBTAINING "ATOMIC CAPABILITIES" (in partnership with Argentina) FOR DEFENSIVE PURPOSES, GIVEN POSSIBLE (horrific) SCENARIOS IN THE NEAR FUTURE
written by AUGUSTUS SEVERUS, September 08, 2009
Unfortunately I must strongly disagree. strictly on account of Brazilian security within the next few decades.
Bearing in mind that within the next 20 or 30 years, the world is likely to face immense shortages of OIL and FRESH WATER, nations like Brazil (with enormous reserves of BOTH dwindling resources) are BOUND to become the target of powerful nations facing the pressure of desperate populations...
Since our planet is likely to face a potential chaotic situation, likely to escalate into a global conflict, I strongly suggest that the Brazilian government seriously consider initiating at least a Project. In addition, because of regional considerations (political & military), such "project" should be conducted in full partnership with Argentina.
Given the fact that NEITHER nation has signed the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty, Brazil and Argentina could NEITHER be accused of any breach of international commitments, NOR be required to accept inspectors from any international agency.
Consequently the security of our nation in the near future may unfortunately require this quintessential project!

where to test it how to get it there ..

A bombs do not give a country securty it gives them the big stick !!!

depends on whom you plan to swing it at .

and again can brasil afford the project so far your nuke sub has been 20 year in the making a billiob reals and nothing to show
but a pile of paper and a proimas from the french .

so your bomb will be some time in the 2055 if you are unluckey enough to keep on the project .

why not just buy one cut out the middle men and theift by the government and its contractors .

and my head is in the open sun over water not stuck in some internet site playing with my self looking at porn .

1) Fresh Water
- It is not with a 200 millions cattle herd and growing that fresh water will stay drinkable...in Brazil !
- Same for your wastewater that is mostly untreated and put straight to rivers and the ocean.
- there is non salted water nearly the world over, except deserts. The problem as you stated is Drinkable Water. No need of fears for an eventual invasion. JUST TREAT THE WASTEWATER INSTEAD OF POLLUTING IT ! Because who is going to invade, for water, a country with polluted water ?

2) Oil
the World is awash of oil. Simply not as cheap as in the past. And this trend exists since oil was discovered !
Just read the news of 100-70-50-30-10 years ago. Nothing has changed. We simply have to dig further down.
Thus more expensive due to depth but also more expensive due to inflation, since salaries go up, iron ore/steel goes also up.
Just look at natural gas. The price went down 40 % when oil price doubled..THIS YEAR !
Oil is now at basically at 50 % off its bubble peak of Us$ 147.- and gaz is at 85 % OFF its peak !
And technology allows the world to extract oil...FROM COAL ! Are we close to a shortage of coal ?
Germany alone has 200 years reserves of Coal.
And the USA even more.
Canada has gigantic Tar Sands reserves that is exploited now...due to the acceptably high oil price.
The USA has gigantic oil reserves in their Oil Shale deposits, not yet exploited due to lack of competitive and commercial technology ...at this stage only ! Not tomorrow !!

3) Your apparent defense to Brazil/Argentina due to their NON signed agreements of proliferation !
Sorry Augustus but has Iran and North Korea signed these agreements ?
If not then they should be as free as Brazil/Argentina using your reasonings and analysis !

ooops error on JUST TREAT THE WASTEWATER INSTEAD OF POLLUTING IT !
written by ch.c., September 08, 2009
should read
JUST TREAT THE WASTEWATER INSTEAD OF NOT TREATING IT !

Emerging nations mostly dont do it due to unwillingness to invest because that would raise their output costs...in their view !

But...but...Technology is available for yearsssss already.
And that also provide a lot of JOBS....by the way !
Better to invest in these technologies that help all the society instead of hiring an army of bureaucrats that Brazil cherish so much but are totally NON PRODUCTIVE ! In fact such an army of bureaucrats reduce the competitivity of ALL Brazilians industries !
Just ask them...if you dont trust me !

Persisting with my recommendation in spite of any (valid) consideration / objection
written by AUGUSTUS SEVERUS, September 09, 2009
Despite the fact that any “contras” may outweigh the possible “pros” in my SUGGESTION for the Brazilian government vis-à-vis establishing a serious Atomic Project, because I have always been exceedingly (extra) SUPER PESSIMIST, constantly expecting the worst possible scenario (especially for the future of Humanity), regardless of the validity of any arguments argument against my modest proposal, IF (a big IF) I were to have my way, IF I lived in Brazil, and IF I the government were to listen to my advice (which of course they do not), I would still go ahead with my recommendation.

If anything if Brazil were to acquire a “ready to mount-arm-&-launch Nuclear weapons, it is conceivable that such ability might provide any potential attacker to at least an additional layer to consider, prior to actually engaging any such theoretical attack… At the very least, even if this capability were not to outright deter any such attack, it might perhaps give any such opponent an extra issue to seriously contemplate...

As for the comparison with North Korea and Iran, because Brazil has never directly, specifically threatened (and is highly unlikely ever to do so) ANY nation, group, or political system (and without having any official/implacable enemy), I would scarcely doubt that the international community would even REMOTELY consider any possible threat from Brazil comparable to Iran and North Korea

Naturally, for staunch opponents of anything Brazilian like Forest, or blogs who outright hate and despise anything about Brazil or Brazilians -- which I do not condemn or resent, for both of they have the right to feel this way --, there would NEVER be any argument that might ever convince or persuade – regardless of the topic, significance, logic… It simply does not matter, for both one will object and mistrust, while the other would mock, insult and attack – WHICH IS FINE!!! For I can understand, given the fact that I feel EXACTLY the same way against anything Islamic or religious…. I would NEVER accept or even try! The point being, there is no need to attempt to object, or point out the issues (not only because I’m aware of most of them, but also because any strong sarcastic objection about Brazil from Forest and any insulting mocking remark from ch-c are as expected as humidity in a rain forest, or sand storms in a desert… Facts which are to be expected…)

Taking into account a cute Brazilian expressions
“nao tento tapar o sol com a peneira” = approximate translation = (I do not attempt to conceal the sunshine with a strainer/sieve/colander)

As such, with no hard feelings, no resentments – I simply wanted to make my point across… (which reminds me of yet another Brazilian expressions)
“o que cai na rede e’ peixe” = approximate translation = (whatever falls in my fishing-net is good for me)

Antonio, you are right like Jon. Nobody seems to acknowledge that Brasil, Argentina or Canada have the know how to develop the "BOMB". What for? Who is the enemy? How are we going to deliver it?

As far as I know, these 3 countries are more interested in utilizing the know-how for peaceful purposes. What exactly, Pakistan achieved by building 50-100 bombs?

Brasil doesn't have to prove that we have a N-Bomb to join the "Nuclear Club" and thus pave way to get into the U.N. Security Council. BTW, as far as I am concerned, U.N. is another "Repartição Publica" and dying a slow death.

Folks, bear in mind that the paper Numerical Simulation of Thermonuclear Detonations in Fusion-fission Radiation-imploded Hybrid Environments, by the physicist Dalton E. G. Barroso, relates to the Hydrogen bomb, not merely an A-bomb. Brazil achieved the ability to build a nucleardevice in the early 80´s, although it´s never put it into practice. Now we´re talking Thermonuclear device, which is quite a departure from previous accomplishments.

Best regards.

  • Ahmadinejad's Visit: Iran, Honduras and Brazil's Hypocrisy in Dealing With Them

Ahmadinejad and Lula The Brazilian diplo-MÁ-cia (bad diplomacy) carries on its accelerated course towards the non-acknowledgment of human rights, although sometimes it takes pleasure in saying that it does precisely the opposite. The visit of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is another example of a diplomatic omission that verges on hypocrisy.

  • Some Humility Would Do Lula Good. On Human Rights Brazil Has Long Way to Go

A prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil On November 7, 2009 a few friends and I had an opportunity to take a look inside a Brazilian jail outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. We were able to take some amateur footage of our experience on video (see link below). It's no surprise, of course, that the typical Brazilian jail lacks some of the functionality of those in North America or Europe, but our experience that day was quite shocking.
