Honduras Will Blame Brazil for Any Bloodshed in the Streets PDF Print E-mail
Written by José Wilson Miranda
Tuesday, 22 September 2009

Manuel Zelaya The de-facto president of Honduras, Roberto Micheletti, has asked Brazil that it hand over ousted president Manuel Zelaya, who has returned clandestinely to Tegucigalpa and found refuge inside the Brazilian embassy in the Honduran capital. Micheletti says that Zelaya should be put on trial before the country's justice.

"I make an appeal to the government of Brazil so that it respect the judicial order against Mr. Zelaya and turn him over to Honduras' competent authorities," said Micheletti talking to the Honduran people via a national TV and radio linkup. And he added: "Honduras is committed to guarantee Mister Zelaya's rights to a due process."

Brazil together with many other nations don't accept Micheletti as Honduras'  legitimate chief of state.

Zelaya insisted that no one will expel him from his own country again and added that from now on his motto will be: "homeland, restitution or death."

Talking to Brazilian reporters, Zelaya, said that it's still too early to know when he will leave the Brazilian embassy. He arrived at that diplomatic compound 86 days after having been thrown out of the government. "Now we are going to start the dialogue," he stated.

Zelaya revealed that it took him 15 hours of travel by car and by foot to arrive to the Honduran capital. According to him, it was a trip filled with tension and he was forced to cross several military blockades.

"I used different transportation and passed through different towns," he confided, "to get safe and sound to the capital. I found lots of repression on my way."

The deposed president said that now is the time for the government to correct its mistakes and made an appeal for dialogue in order to avoid bloodshed.

"Honduras deserves a peaceful agreement, without violence, without bloodshed. People are defenseless, they have no weapons and it would be very unfortunate if, despite the international community vigilance, the government clamp down on the population. I believe that Mr. Micheletti should quickly correct the mistakes he made, avoiding bloodshed."

Zelaya thanked the Lula administration for opening the Brazilian embassy for him, even risking protests: "I'd like to thank president Lula, chancellor Celso Amorim and the (presidency advisor] Marco Aurélio Garcia who opened the doors to start the dialog. May the struggle for democracy in Honduras be useful for Latin America and for the continent."

The acting government in Honduras protested against Brazil for having sheltered Zelaya and said that it is holding the Brazilian government responsible for any violence that may occur around the embassy, which is surrounded by demonstrators favorable to the ousted president.

How Do You Juggle "Balls of Fire"?
written by Lloyd Cata, September 22, 2009
--- the US is out the UN is out ---

Finally President Lula has shown he has the balls to stand up to US-sponsored military dictatorships. Each of these coup attempts further exposes the empires tentacles within the military and commercial sectors of Latin American countries. Perhaps Mr. Lula will go further to chop off some of the same actors in his own government.

Yeah, I know President Obama does not support the coup, but his support for Plan Columbia is the framework for paramilitary actions throughout the region. If the US wants Brazil to assist in stabilizing the region then Obama must revise Plan Columbia and remove the military aspects of the PLAN which are tied to the commercial financial backing for authoritarian rulers and their hired mercenaries in the region. So you see how they expose themselves more by every conflict they encounter.
For the US to "openly" support these coups, such as the failure against Mr. Chavez make a mockery of their support for democracy and freedom. Now they only support freedom for their capitalist partners to retain that which was stolen from the people, and simply give lip-service to democratic principles based on free and fair elections. The hypocrisy becomes clearer with each peoples uprising.
So you see Mr. Brown, the US cannot be "out" of something which they engineered and financed. This was planned and financed before Mr. Obama became president. The question is whether he intends to put an end to it. He can start that process by agreeing to give Mr. Lula the front position in this crisis, which appears to be what he has done. Make no mistake Lula has talked to Obama before subjecting himself to ridicule in the region and the world. It is only for the coup leaders to slaughter innocent people and suppress the "homegrown" uprising against colonialism and democracy. They cannot say that they are fighting against terrorism or drugs in Honduras. It is quite clear that they are fighting against the free will of the people, but then we have seen this before.

BUT...BUT..... Dom.Zelaya is a rich plantation owner. Does he pay his slaves the minimum wages set by your government? If he is not careful, the "pueblo" might use the "machete y las fusca" to get his arse in a sling. Just think about it. We don't want to get involved in your problemas and just leave us alone please. We had enough of Hugo,Rafael,Evo, Cristina, etc; btw, your hero Zelaya sounds as bombastic as Nestor. May be Zelaya can go "embassy crawling" and finally Cris would give him asylum in her "plantation". smilies/angry.gif

can we stick to the facts? they are quite simple.
Z arguably violated the Constitution by calling for a referendum on the possibility of a second term. The ruling elite decided that the remedy for this violation was to depose and deport him. The Honduras Constitution does not provide for any such remedy. The military transported him out of his country, which amounts to a military coup. Or perhaps a civilian coup, where the ruling elite decide who will rule the country, elections be damned! and the military do as the elite wish. That is a coup and that is the reason every single country in the world has denounced the takeover as a coup. Once again--every single solitary country in the world has denounced this as a coup. Not one country in the world has defended the Honduras ruling elite.
So, what is it about the word "coup" that you don't understand?

Loyd cata......They cannot say that they are fighting against terrorism or drugs in Honduras
written by ch.c., September 22, 2009
What about the Golden Triangle where the South of Brazil is part and and a center for terrorism and drugs ?

What about drugs TRAFFICKERS in Brazil ?
Some of these traffickers are no one else than the Brazilian Police Forces. After they exterminated the local gangs they (thepolice forces) REPLACED those they had exterminated.

I must agree with Augustus that you finally show your true RED COLOR !

Outside of this I personally dont think that Robbing Hook should allow anyone to hide in a Brazilian Embassy.
Just imagine if someone (expecially a ousted president) in South America would seek refuge in the U.S. Embassy !
What would a normal south american think and say except insulting America...as usual !

It becomes clearer and clearer to me, that the possibility of 2 opposing groups of countries In South & Central America
may eventually etenter war in the next few years at worst or in a major crisis for the region at best.
And guess what war &/or major crisis bring except wealth destruction, reduction in foreign investments, collapse of GDP and its growth, closing of factories ?
NOTHING POSITIVE FOR SURE !
Just look at the not so old past in the region !!!!!
The development of what is actually seeded will start to germinate and later ready to harvest.
Altough way to determinate the outcome, it will be fun to see if until the middle of next year Robbing Hook will not find out
a good bad reason not to get a third presidential term.

I just draw your attention that in Colombia, they are also talking of changing the constitution to allow a third presidential term and this (apparently) not on the request of the actual president....curiously !
Better yet, to even get his actual second presidential term the constituion was already changed !!!

I would not be surprised that more and more South & Central Americans countries are going to change their constitutions to allow for a third-fourth mandate -or president for life term !!!!

Hopefully FOR ALL YOU IN THE REGION my suspicions (not predictions) are 100 % wrong !

Not one country in the world has defended the Honduras ruling elite.

Probably because the rest of the world is yet to figure out where this cú do mundo called Honduras is located on the planet Earth. Ban-ki-Moon hasn't had the time to download Google Earth on his PC and even if he does, it will take him a long time to input the relevant data correctly. Oh, I thought Z belonged to the ruling elite and now you come and tell us that he is really a member of the oppressed proletariat masses of Honduras. Thanks for the info. May be Brazil should give the gentleman a warm welcome and set him up in a mansion in Brasilia so that he can continue his "luta" in favor of the have nots of Latin America.

BRAZIL PLAYING CHAVEZ-ZELAYA´S GAME
written by Claudia, honduran citizen, September 23, 2009
In Honduras we have a political crisis for a reason, Zelaya disrespected the Constitution and honduran laws for his ambition of power, all the people supporting Zelaya act by their personal interest, they have been paid and are expecting to receive the benefits Zelaya promised them, it is of the knowledge of the international community that all Zelaya´s actions were supported by his close friend Hugo Chavez but this reality will not be seen because the goverments respond to their own convenience and they should guarantee their oil supply from Venezuela. In the middle is the honduran people trying to fight for their peace and freedom, shame on Brazil! Violence and insurrection is promoted by Zelaya while he is being hosted in yr Embassy.

No, ya all are wrong. Our friend Lloyd Cata is an agent provocateur planted by the "empire". Look how he changes his convictions and diverts our attention.

He wants all of us to place our bet on Zelaya coming back to power. BUT.....BUT.......he wouldn't bet a cent on it.

Cheers to our buddy and "Chief Conspirator" Lloyd Cata. smilies/wink.gif smilies/cheesy.gif

  • Brazil Engaged in Another Olympics: Reshaping Its Image Before Games Open

Economist's cover on BrazilBrazil received a huge boost in its international image with its selection as the host of the 2016 Olympics, but it was really just the cherry on top of the overall recognition of the country's ascension to the ranks of one of the world's most important countries. Now, as it finally takes its place on the world scene, there has been a great deal of concern about what kind of image Brazil hopes to project, now that the world is really paying attention.

  • Iranian Leader's Visit to Brazil Takes the Gloss off Lula's International Image

Ahmadinejad meets LulaThe only good thing to say about the visit to Brazil of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, on Monday November 23, is that it was mercifully short and lasted less than 24 hours. Ahmadinejad had his picture taken being hugged by president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva who gave him a warm welcome and said Iran had every right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

  • Poor Women from Northeast Brazil Learn Joy of Meeting and Helping Each Other

Joined hands The small, coastal town of Condé is located just a twenty minute's drive from João Pessoa, the capital of Paraíba. The Northeast of Brazil has historically been a place of encounter and mixing between peoples. For millenia groups of indigenous people fished, farmed, migrated and sometimes fought along this large, fertile area.

  • Ahmadinejad's Visit: Iran, Honduras and Brazil's Hypocrisy in Dealing With Them

Ahmadinejad and Lula The Brazilian diplo-MÁ-cia (bad diplomacy) carries on its accelerated course towards the non-acknowledgment of human rights, although sometimes it takes pleasure in saying that it does precisely the opposite. The visit of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is another example of a diplomatic omission that verges on hypocrisy.

  • Lula Is About to Fulfill His Wish of Getting His Good Friend Chavez in Mercosur

Lula and Chavez On July 4, 2006, representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay met in Caracas to sign the protocol for the entrance of Venezuela into the Southern Common Market (Mercosur). After two and a half years, the protocol was approved by the legislative bodies of Argentina and Uruguay, and as of now it may be only days away from being ratified by the continent's economic megalith, Brazil.

  • Denying Education is the Other AIDS. And Brazil Is Guilty of Inflicting It

Children from a Diadema band Some sectors of the fight against AIDS have suggested that Thabo Mbeki, the former president of South Africa, committed genocide through his absence from the fight against the illness in his country throughout his two terms.

  • Child Labor Went Down in Brazil, But 5 Million Underage Workers Are Still Way Too Many

Child labor in Brazil One hundred and eleven years after Brazil abolished slavery, the number of workers deprived of their freedom is still huge. They raise cattle, produce charcoal, sugar cane or timber. Some of them, most undocumented Bolivians, work in basements of small apparel factories in São Paulo and other metropolis.

  • Some Humility Would Do Lula Good. On Human Rights Brazil Has Long Way to Go

A prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil On November 7, 2009 a few friends and I had an opportunity to take a look inside a Brazilian jail outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. We were able to take some amateur footage of our experience on video (see link below). It's no surprise, of course, that the typical Brazilian jail lacks some of the functionality of those in North America or Europe, but our experience that day was quite shocking.

Geisy Arruda from BrazilGeisy Arruda made history this week in Brazil, but for all the wrong reasons. What began as a poorly planned fashion statement has become a worldwide tale. Geisy decided to wear a pink mini-dress to her private college in São Paulo state, and after that, all hell broke loose.
