Lula Sends Zelaya a Warning: Don't Use Brazil Embassy in Honduras for Conspiracy PDF Print E-mail
Written by José Wilson Miranda
Thursday, 24 September 2009

Honduras military at Brazilian embassy Brazilian president's spokesman Marcelo Baumbach told reporters this Thursday, September 24, that Manuel Zelaya, Honduras' deposed president, may stay in the Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa as long as he wishes.

"It's obvious that president Zelaya will stay in the Brazilian embassy as long as necessary to solve the situation. Brazil gave shelter to president Zelaya, he runs the risk of being arrested if he leaves the embassy," said Baumbach.

According to Brazil's  Foreign Relations ministry about 100 people are in the embassy with Zelaya. Commenting on the situation of these people, Baumbach stated that Brazil will not select who needs or doesn't need protection.

Reports by Brazilian journalists reveal that those sheltered by Brazil can't shave or brush their teeth, they also haven't taken a bath in three days, since they don't have enough water or soap.

"If people entered the Brazilian embassy and asked for protection we believe they need it. The Brazilian government is not worried at this time about choosing who needs or doesn't need to be there," he added.

Baumbach let it be known, however, that president of Brazil is against the use of the embassy for any secret plan or plot.

"President Lula does not authorize the embassy to be used for political conspiracies. We believe that there is a possibility for a negotiated solution for this problem. Brazil believes that the negotiated solution is already on its way."

The spokesman reaffirmed that the Brazilian government was not aware of Zelaya's plan to go back to Honduras and that the deposed leader's request to stay in the embassy came as a complete surprise.

Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez said in New York that he knew everything about the plan and that he even helped Zelaya  deceive the Honduran authorities while the ousted president made his way back to Tegucigalpa.

According to Baumbach, the government of Roberto Micheletti showed signs that it is willing to start negotiations. On Thursday, however, Zelaya informed that his proposal to start a dialogue had not received any answer from the de-facto government.

"I reiterate what has already been said by president Lula and ministers. Brazil was taken by surprise by the arrival of president Zelaya to the Embassy. Brazil had no knowledge of this plan. It only did what is practice: to give shelter," the spokesman offered.

"Would it be possible that president Lula had no knowledge of Zelaya's plan to return to Honduras?" a reporter asked. "It's not up to us to make assumptions concerning what is possible or not. Brazil, in fact, had no knowledge of this plan," responded Baumbach.

Lula will meet Chávez this weekend in Venezuela and they are expected to discuss Zelaya's situation.

LULA IS PLAYING A PBO GAME

A brilliant comment, as usual. My kudos. Unfortunately, outspoken people like us are classified to be "politically incorrect" and thus dispensable.

so how did the first brasilian entrance into gobal politics work out for you ??????????

It didn't work out well, in spite of our support to Zelaya trying to imitate a Texan or the "Marlborough Man". Gee, we do bet on wrong horses, don't we?

ITS TIME FOR lula TO NUT UP OR SHUT UP

chaves did not tell his old buddie lulaboy that Z was going to do that .

and as i remeber hounduras does have a vensula embassy why not go there with Z chaves being the show man he is would been grate for him in NY to show his arab friends he could defy the US under there own noses .

but thing are not going to be so good for lula in pitsburg as the people of the US are tired of PBO and his gang of political thugs trying to run down the country and trying to pass bills the want but never read .

i think there will be some big police matters there and pbo will have his hands full of state matters and if he meets with lula it will be a photo op only

if lula was smart he would pan the meeting and stay quiet as eh does not need the bad press here people are still talking about the goldman boy and wanting to know why reportes get bailed out of countries but cliton he/she never come home with the goldman boy

Lula, besides being in the position where he should be among the most well informed people in the country ( at least that is what should happen with world leaders) , he is never aware of what is going on when things go bad.
But on the ohter hand, he is always ready to take credits when things go right.

For Want of Better Things...
written by Lloyd Cata, September 25, 2009
Look folks, Lula wants to sit at the BIG table, and Obama is prepared to accept that. He's giving Lula the lead here, in Honduras and other places in Latin America. A position that has never been offered to any of Latin American leader, specifically Mexico. Now Lula has to deliver without a bloodbath in Honduras, unless he wants more US bases in the neighborhood. After all, dollars are plentiful and there are plenty of petty caudillos with their hands out.
This is the same situation faced by Nigeria around 1985, until the reactionaries with dollars, pounds, and francs decided Washington, London, and Paris knew better. Now all kinds of money is flowing into Rio, Sao Paulo, and Brasilia. Some of it will find its way into the same hands that destroyed Nigeria's leadership. Understand!!! They know how to do this. They have done it before, countless times around the world.
Tell you what....put Venezuela in the place of Libya, say 20 years ago...see the parallel? No? So how come Mr. Khaddafi is the only rehabilitated terrorist in the world? Is there hope for Mr. Chavez yet?...and will Mr. Lula be looking like the dog(puppy) in 20 years?
Plan Columbia has not changed since the Nicaraguan civil war, and it doesn't look to change under Obama. So be careful, because there are no heroes in this drama....only the living and the dead....and the people who make money will win in either case.

Sounds bad?...it gets worse if Mr. Lula cannot fill the shoes and walk carefully through the minefields.

Mr Lloyd Cata,
What are you talking about?
Obama is accepting and leting Lula have the lead of Honduras and other places in Latin America.
A position that has never been offered to any of Latin American leader ???
Let me see, United States of America has 50 States, that I know none of them are located in Latim America.
Do you realy think that is up to Obama to decide who handles the problems of other countries ?
I thought that the individual countries should decide on their own in case they want someone else to handle their problems , for what I know there is no country in Latin America requesting Obama's help, except for Colombia. It is great that the USA is there helping out, but that was Colombia's choice and Manta, Equador's loss.
Personaly I don't care who handles other countries problems. But it is strange to me reading a statment where people think the president of USA is the president of the planet. You are probably american and never visit other countries , so you think the USA is the center of the Universe. For your information leadership can be not imposed but earned.

Hello Susan, Where Have You Been and How Long Have You Been There?
written by Lloyd Cata, September 26, 2009
--- Let me see, United States of America has 50 States, that I know none of them are located in Latim America ---

The "official" US policy in the Western Hemisphere has not changed since Teddy Roosevelt, "Walk softly, but carry a big stick". Even Obama, as president, has spoken those words. Do you suppose the new US bases in Columbia are just to stiffen Uribe's spine since they give US military leverage on the 'southern continent'? Do you suppose Brazil could sell cars or a ethanol refinery to Cuba since Cuba has plentiful sugarcane? Was Nicaragua so long ago? Grenada, Panama? I could go on, but....

--- the president of USA is the president of the planet ---

No, my dear, not president of the planet...Just the leader of the Empire (which I have defined in this forum several times).
BTW, wasn't that a great photo op with Obama, Brown, and Sarkosy giving the ultimatum to Iran. Obama is real good when he is "sharing" as in this case. It gives the US a softer image of playing nice.

--- For your information leadership can be not imposed but earned. ---

That's nice philosophy from your grade school text, but this is 'real world' and too many times leadership is imposed at the point of a gun. You may argue the nature of the leadership, but as Obama rightly recognises he must deal with Ahmadinejad as leader of Iran, capiche?

Make no mistake, the US is a European power, a Latin American power, an Asian power, and with the 'new' Africa Command Corps soon to be an African power. There is no place on the planet where US influence is not recognized. Even those places where it has no power, it influences the decisions of that countries leadership, either economically or militarily.

A great advice to young Susan, Dr.Cata and I hope she takes it seriously. One thing you omitted in your comment is to give her the list of books she should read.

Even I recognize that BHO must deal with Ahmadinejad !!

After all, dollars are plentiful and there are plenty of petty caudillos with their hands out.

You are becoming more and more outspoken, these days. smilies/wink.gif smilies/cheesy.gif

How interesting that our thoughts coincide? See the connection? Sure. Col.Khaddafi, Col.Chavez, Carlos, the Chacal (now rotting in a French prison but might be released like that "laranja" who spent some years in a Scottish prison and returned to Libya last month), Sarko,Brown, Lula & BHO together in the U.N....................

You sure have a long memory and my kudos. So what is this week´s conspiracy, Dr.Cata? You think the brave Honduran troops are going to invade our Embassy to get Zelaya "Dead or Alive"?

Zelaya Dead Is A Martyr (unless they get a Brazilian to kill him)
written by Lloyd Cata, September 26, 2009
US neo-cons miscalculated local, regional, and international support for Zelaya, but they could not kill him openly and have any legitimacy. Now they negotiate with their back against the wall. Maybe they will convince a Brazilian to kill him? That would make for interesting drama to keep everyone busy while they continue to rape the people. Or maybe they could host the Guantanemo prisoners and have one of them kill him?

Brazil really does have good novelas and this one is better than any James Bond flick smilies/wink.gif

Zelaya is well protected by our "Porteiros" at the embassy. Besides, he is not willing to become a Martyr, though he is accusing the Israelis of sending high frequency wireless signals to torment him to force him to surrender. He is a "Marlboro" man and a real Macho. So your hopes are shattered.

Here we agree 100% smilies/wink.gif smilies/cheesy.gif smilies/grin.gif

You do have a devastating sense of humor, don't you? Oh, before I forget, there is another conspiracy theory I am launching. You and "The Guest" are the same persons. Can you contest it? smilies/wink.gif

Although it has been, and continues to be, my wish to once again be a "guest" in your beautiful country I have never signed as guest in this forum.
You will find my words throughout to be consistent, so I do not need a "nom de guerre". Furthermore, I do not deal in conspiracies since the truth
is well documented by others who precede me more eloquently.

  • Ahmadinejad's Visit: Iran, Honduras and Brazil's Hypocrisy in Dealing With Them

Ahmadinejad and Lula The Brazilian diplo-MÁ-cia (bad diplomacy) carries on its accelerated course towards the non-acknowledgment of human rights, although sometimes it takes pleasure in saying that it does precisely the opposite. The visit of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is another example of a diplomatic omission that verges on hypocrisy.

  • Some Humility Would Do Lula Good. On Human Rights Brazil Has Long Way to Go

A prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil On November 7, 2009 a few friends and I had an opportunity to take a look inside a Brazilian jail outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. We were able to take some amateur footage of our experience on video (see link below). It's no surprise, of course, that the typical Brazilian jail lacks some of the functionality of those in North America or Europe, but our experience that day was quite shocking.
