Brazilian Acting President Wants Brazil to Build the A-bomb PDF Print E-mail
Written by José Wilson Miranda
Friday, 25 September 2009

Brazilian actcing president José Alencar Brazil's acting president, José Alencar, told Brazilian reporters that's he in favor that Brazil build its own atomic bomb. For him nuclear weapons are an important dissuasion factor and would give Brazil more respectability.

"A nuclear weapon used as dissuasive instrument is of great significance for a country that has 15,000 kilometers (9,300 miles) of borders in the west and has a territorial sea and, now, there's this pre-salt sea with an area of 4 million square kilometers (1.4 million square miles)," said Alencar.

All the recent oil findings by Brazil should be reason for caution, he argues: "This stirs international greed. Now everything is all right, but we don't know what tomorrow will bring. It costs a lot, but readiness is costly."

Alencar, who is the acting president while president Lula is in the United States for several commitments, including taking part in the Pittsburgh G20 summit, reminded the case of Pakistan, which is part of several international organisms not because is a big country, but because it has the A bomb.

For Alencar, India and Pakistan, although living in conflict, don't go to war against each other and prefer to sit down and negotiate because both possess nuclear weapons.

"We, Brazilian, sometimes are too laid-back," said the Brazilian vice-president. "We master the nuclear energy technology, but nobody here has the drive to advance in this field. We have to go forward in this matter".

According to Alencar, Brazil would use its nukes only for peaceful purposes, only to protect the country from international attacks. "We have to waken up to the idea that Brazil needs to advance in this field to become a really strong country."

During his talk to reporters in his cabinet in Brazilian capital Brasília, Alencar, who once was Defense minister, also defended the allocation of more resources to the Armed Forces. He wants the defense budget to be linked to the country's GDP. "We need a GDP percentage between 3% and 5%, which would give much might to the defense's system that needs care and has been abandoned for ages."

The acting president stressed that he is a pacifist and that his opinion about the need for the A-bomb is given as a common citizen and not as the second in line of succession.

Alencar added that he was not saying what Brazil is going to do and what road the country will take: "I'm not saying that Brazil is going to do this or not and I don't even want to say if I want this or not. I'm making an analysis as a Brazilian. The country's reputability would grow a lot. We have that saying "might is right and justice is the power of the strongest," he continued.

It's not the first time that Alencar defends development of nuclear weapons. He is not the only Lula aide to have such thoughts either. A few years back, then Science and Technology minister Roberto Amaral, declared:

"We are against nuclear proliferation, we are signatories of the nonproliferation treaty signatories, but we cannot renounce the scientific knowledge."

"We master the nuclear energy technology,"
written by ch.c., September 26, 2009
But this idiot goes repeatedly to the USA for his many heart surgeries !
Is Brazil that much backward in heart surgeries or he doesnt want to be treated neither by a Brazilian EXPERT or IN BRAZIL
most advanced hospitals ???????

With their mouth Brazilians may as well have the technology for nuclear submarines but are still begging for France technology.
With their mouth Brazilians may as well have the technology to build nuclear power plants.....but still havent build ONE !
With their mouth Brazilians may as well have the technology to build High Speed Trains...but dont just to please other countries !

Somewhat funny that those apparently able to build the A bomb have not one BRAZILIAN CAR MANUFACTURER !

Looks like for brazilians that it is easier to build the A bomb than building a car.

Ohhh and wasnt it the Brazilians Experts that sent to the USA the black box of the Congo-naze plane tragedy...while in fact it was only part of a wing....they shipped !

Ohhhh may be you may use the SP big and deep crater done 2-3 years ago when you built the metro that could be used to test your A bomb.

Forrest "there are 40 million chinese men that dont have wives"
written by ch.c., September 26, 2009
Out of a total population of 1,3-1,5 billion that is VERY LITTLE !

BRAZIL with a population of "only" 200 millions have at least 40 millions adults men that dont have wives either !
Just imagine the number of homos in this country, paedophils and transvetites, and men going to the brothels 1-2 x a week !
Do they have wives ? Doubtful !

40 millions is too much ? OK lets say 20 millions. That still makes 10 % of the total population against 2,5 % or so in China.

Wants To Play Ball With The Big Guys
written by Lloyd Cata, September 26, 2009
Just what US neocons were afraid of....

Could not stop India nukes
Could not stop Pakistan nukes
Does not want to stop Israel nukes
Can not stop N.Korean nukes
Can not stop Iranian nukes

Just goes to show....be careful of what you wish for. If Brazil gets the bomb, then Chavez gets the bomb. Why not?
In fact, Ahmadinejad is correct, nukes are for defense...first use is last use. Better that Lula and Chavez work for nuclear-free zone in Latin America, but again we face the question of why the arms and nukes? Is it because British or French can invade from their little island fortresses(Malvinas?).

Who is the potential enemy of Brazil? Columbia? Chile? I think not...and you know not. The only threat to Braszil is the same colonial powers who still wish to have plantations in the Western Hemisphere.

Great questions, Dr.Cata and I have asked the same many times and no single blogger is yet to respond who our real enemy is. You could be right. The Brits can invade us from the "Falklands" and Sarko would protect us by selling 36 RAFALE fighters (two of which crashed on Thursday, btw). BUT...BUT...., I still think that these Colonial Rascals are after our Pre-salt oil, besides wishing to turn the Amazon into a huge Sugarcane "Plantation".

BTW, I have sent a coded message to ASP not to question your authority. smilies/cheesy.gif smilies/angry.gif

Yes and Brazil can fly it around on the 10 French Fighter in the Air CRAP Carrier.
written by JAY GLENN, September 27, 2009
You can build all you can but you need to be able to deliver it.
Right now Brazil can't fly the 10 French Fighters it has on the Sal Paulo.that can't sail from it's dock.

For that matter Brazil can't get the bomb from one end of the country to the other, YOU NEED to FEED THE POOR.
JAIL MURDERS rich ones and poor ones BOTH.

Question to all
written by HANS, September 27, 2009
I am no physicist but doesn't a nuclear blast not only destroy the enemy but the surrounding environment as well? Wouldn't the use of nuclear weapons destroy the very natural resources that the Brazilians are trying to preserve. More and more its seems that the emerging nations want to be the Big Man on Campus and aren't really all that concerned with any truly humanitarian cause outside of there own borders. Freakin' rediculous.

  • Poor Women from Northeast Brazil Learn Joy of Meeting and Helping Each Other

Joined hands The small, coastal town of Condé is located just a twenty minute's drive from João Pessoa, the capital of Paraíba. The Northeast of Brazil has historically been a place of encounter and mixing between peoples. For millenia groups of indigenous people fished, farmed, migrated and sometimes fought along this large, fertile area.

  • Ahmadinejad's Visit: Iran, Honduras and Brazil's Hypocrisy in Dealing With Them

Ahmadinejad and Lula The Brazilian diplo-MÁ-cia (bad diplomacy) carries on its accelerated course towards the non-acknowledgment of human rights, although sometimes it takes pleasure in saying that it does precisely the opposite. The visit of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is another example of a diplomatic omission that verges on hypocrisy.

  • Lula Is About to Fulfill His Wish of Getting His Good Friend Chavez in Mercosur

Lula and Chavez On July 4, 2006, representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay met in Caracas to sign the protocol for the entrance of Venezuela into the Southern Common Market (Mercosur). After two and a half years, the protocol was approved by the legislative bodies of Argentina and Uruguay, and as of now it may be only days away from being ratified by the continent's economic megalith, Brazil.

  • Child Labor Went Down in Brazil, But 5 Million Underage Workers Are Still Way Too Many

Child labor in Brazil One hundred and eleven years after Brazil abolished slavery, the number of workers deprived of their freedom is still huge. They raise cattle, produce charcoal, sugar cane or timber. Some of them, most undocumented Bolivians, work in basements of small apparel factories in São Paulo and other metropolis.

  • Some Humility Would Do Lula Good. On Human Rights Brazil Has Long Way to Go

A prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil On November 7, 2009 a few friends and I had an opportunity to take a look inside a Brazilian jail outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. We were able to take some amateur footage of our experience on video (see link below). It's no surprise, of course, that the typical Brazilian jail lacks some of the functionality of those in North America or Europe, but our experience that day was quite shocking.

  • Brazil's Amazon Rainforest Policy Is a One-Way Road to Disaster

Trasamazonian road in BrazilDepletion of the Amazon Rainforest is not a new concern facing environmentalists, biologists, ecologists, and a growing number of the Amazonian indigenous peoples. For decades they have feared for the fate of the world's most biologically diverse and species-rich hothouse.

  • Geisy, Brazil's Miniskirt Student, Should Try US College Next Year

Geisy Arruda from BrazilGeisy Arruda made history this week in Brazil, but for all the wrong reasons. What began as a poorly planned fashion statement has become a worldwide tale. Geisy decided to wear a pink mini-dress to her private college in São Paulo state, and after that, all hell broke loose.

  • Vigilante Groups in Brazil Trump Drug Gangs and Become Rio's New Authority

Brazilian favela in Rio The push of vigilante groups in Rio de Janeiro's favelas (shantytowns) in the last three years is the most important and alarming information of the just-released study by the Rio de Janeiro University's Violence Research Center (Nupev-Uerj).

  • Brazil Police Use Press Coverage as Green Light to Kill and Invade Houses in Rio

Rio police in a favela A dispute over drug trafficking territory in Rio de Janeiro has intensified lately, leaving in its wake unprecedented acts of violence, such as the downing of a police helicopter in the northern zone of the city on October 17.  Three policemen died and another two were injured.  This event has drawn the attention of the international media, who are raising the issue of public security for the 2016 Olympics to be held in Rio.
