Brazil Blasts US and Casts Doubt It Will Buy American Fighter Planes PDF Print E-mail
Written by Isabela Vieira
Friday, 06 November 2009

Nelson Jobim Brazilian Defense minister, Nelson Jobim, told reporters this Friday, November 6, that the dispute between the US, France and Sweden to sell 36 fighter planes to the Brazilian Air Force is still going on and it's very strong.

He then went on to say he didn't want to create a controversy with any comment that might be seen favoring any of the countries and companies involved. But he didn't spare the United States.

"I will not get into a fight of companies," Jobim said after visiting the Cetex (Army's Technological Center), in Rio de Janeiro's west side.

According to the minister, the most controversial matter among the suppliers is the technology transfer issue and he emphasized that, in this area, the United States doesn't a have a favorable history.

"The trouble with the United States," he stated, "are past issues. The past is a big example of technology transfer embargo. We experience this here today at the Cetex."

Jobim revealed that during his visit to the technological center he heard reports by military men stating that American companies would supply technology for the finishing of military equipments, such as batteries and propellers, only in ten years.

The difficulty to formalize technology transfer deals, according to Jobim, is a problem for several countries. "This is part of the game," he commented. "All countries of the world don't want the others to develop technologically. But Brazil is going to develop itself."

Brazil's  Defense ministry intends to announce the winner of the bid to purchase the 36 fighter planes until the end of year. The Air Force is still evaluating the received proposals. The competitors are the Rafale fighter planes, from French company Dassault; the F/A-18 Super Hornet, from US company Boeing and Gripen NG, from Swedish company Saab.

Thanks General, for furnishing just the facts and figures to mah friend and let him decide whether his Air Force wants a toy fighter or a real one to keep the commies at bay.

One question to ya, Gen: Do ya promise entire "technology transfer" to our friends in the Brazilian Air Force, including the source codes for our EWF system? Ah hope that they still remember how their Southern neighbors were screwed by the Frogs in 1982 and so they better be careful while dealing with the Frogs whose asses were saved by us from the Krauts two times during the last century. Oh-ba-ma is correct in doing the soft sell unlike that old fool Ronnie and the other old bag Maggie whom our Brazilian buddies never trusted.

written by ch.c., November 07, 2009
Be just sure that I, ch.c., dont care at all what armaments Brazil is going to buy or not !
It is just a proof, contrary to your 24/7 navel caressing endemic disease, that BRAZIL IS NUT in technology !
Be it in trucks, cars, armaments, software, hardware, seeds, pesticides, tractors, harvesters, meds or just name it !

Brazil can only produce BASIC COMMODITIES using foreign technologies !
Or some more value added goods.....but...but....still with foreign technologies !

THAT'S ALL until proven otherwise !

Brazil is the only MEGA country on earth that still doesnt has its OWN cars makers....TO MY KNOWLDEGE !
The other 3 BRIC members do have some LOCALLY OWNED CARS MAKERS !

Feel free to continue with your navel caressing endemic disease !
No one is ever going change your ADN for lying and be pretentious.

During your well deserved absence (gave a break to all your distinguished fellow bloggers and thanks you so much for giving us all a respite), Forrest has come out with a serious allegation against you Swiss. He says that you guys shot down a few of their Bombers during the WW 2. How did you manage to do it with your bows and arrows? Please do clarify this issue ASAP.

Nevertheless welcome back from Bangkok. smilies/wink.gif smilies/cheesy.gif smilies/grin.gif

the best deal would be
written by Forrest Allen Brown, November 07, 2009
let the military personal whom will depend on them say which one they want !!!!

why should the congress of brazil be able to choose as i remember no are polits.

to me it is a stall tactic like US senators do so they can buy stock in the company of choice to make even more money
on the deal .

ANd of corse why does brazil not buy from there buddies the chinese with the big loan they just got from them !!!

Never mind the billions the US has given to brazil in the past and going to bat for them so they did not have to pay back the
world bank its loans

That´s mah point, General. It ´s up to aviators like Col.Costa to decide and not some senators who don't know the difference between an airplane and a paper kite. The problem with our country,Gen, is we are letting idiots like Lieberman to decide our fate and ah hope our Brazilian buddies don't get carried away by the bullshit their senators want them to believe.

God bless America as well as Brazil.

I received a email this morning

wanting every US citisen not ot buy a thing the day after thanks giving

in protest of pbo np health care bill

in order to show dem that in next nov elections they will not have a job any more

will it work ????

as the laraza had a day with out a mexican which showed a 30%drop in trafic accedents and lees robries.

the million man march showed that only 19 of them needed to call in to tell work they would be out that day

so let all the workers ,let the government know they will not have jobs next year

I still say do not sell to brazil as other countries that are more our way will buy them .

Ah been receiving such e-mail also, Gen. That´s the way to protest. You know mah motto "Don´t buy anything from Wal-Mart , that is the retail outlet for PRC.Ah buy only American, though its hard to find these days. Ah hear that our Brazilian friends are also going the same way as we have been doing for the past 30 years.

If the Brazilians don't want to buy F-18s, I aint going to lose mah sleep. Worth the try, though.

I still say do not sell to brazil as other countries that are more our way will buy them .

If the Brazilians decide to buy F-18s which are the finest aircraft like our B series passenger planes, I´d let them buy them. Why not?

But ah think that they would decide on our competitors, as their Defense Minister has declared that he doesn't trust us. The picture of him reminds me of that Russky commie Gorbashow.

God bless America

written by Forrest Allen Brown, November 08, 2009
the next header up said that lula said pbo has not look at latin A sence the Trindad sunit

but the US has a contract with coulmbia to help it protect itself from the FARC whom has friends with chaves and ecudor whith the US had baces in until chaves friend took power and look at lula big butt buddies with chaves .
odds on euribe plane coming up missing on the flight back are strong with no radar in place in amazon it would be easy .

and as lula put it pbo is stuck on his health care scheam for now but will pay a very large price later down the road .

his next stunt will be passing a total free walk across the bordors from any country to get US citisen ship to drive down the wages in the US to meet SA standards ,

next he will pass hie buddies UN bill which will require to US to pay fro carbon emissions while letting the likes of india , china, brazil poulit the hell out of the planet by not having pay or enforce the laws the US and other first world countries have in place .

glad i have a boat unless they start taxing the water i will be okay .and as long as i do not check in to any ports with coustoms i be okay

The excellent SU-35
written by Brazuca, November 09, 2009
Whatever happened to the Russians and their excellent fighters? I should think that the SU-35 would easily best the other fighters in the running. Apparently the Russians consider themselves to be in the running, even though they're never mentioned. (Plus they make beautiful fighters, in direct contrast to their ugly helicopters!)
