More than 300 thousand Brazilian young people in the 16-24 age bracket will receive professional training this year through programs executed by Brazil's Ministry of Labor and Employment, as against 185 thousand last year. This amounts to an increase of 38%.
"We observed that the lack of training constitutes the biggest obstacle to a first job chance," observes the secretary of Government Employment Policies of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Remígio Todeschini, arguing in favor of assigning priority to training programs.
Besides learning a trade, the young people will learn how to use a computer, will do community service, and will receive a monthly stipend of US$ 57 (150 reais).
When he signed the Provisional Measure, February 1st, instituting the National Youth Inclusion Program, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said that the government is determined to establish conditions for the youth of Brazil to be able to exploit "their potential" to an ever greater extent and that the government must turn its attention to the country's youth to make Brazil increasingly better.
The ProYouth program will enable young Brazilians to finish fundamental education and have access to digital inclusion and professional instruction.
The program is part of the federal government's national youth policy and will be allocated US$ 114.9 million (300 million reais) this year to take care of young people in various regions of the country.
According to President Lula, looking out for youth is a priority at this moment, since the country has never had as many young people as there are nowadays. Before an juvenile audience in the Planalto Palace, he called on all youth to hold the governments of Brazil accountable for public policy proposals favorable to youths.
The Provisional Measure also establishes the National Youth Secretariat and the National Youth Council, charged with orienting, coordinating, and integrating the implementation of government policies for youth in the 18-24 age bracket.
