37 Countries Discuss in Brazil Terror and Mafia PDF Print E-mail
Written by Daniel Lima
Monday, 28 March 2005

Representatives of Customs Departments of 37 countries of the Americas and Caribe will discuss in Fortaleza (capital of the state of Ceará, Northeast of Brazil), from April 4-7, how to make international trading control more agile and secure in face of current new threats, such as terrorism and organized crime.

According to information issued by the Receita Federal (Federal Revenue and Customs Secretariat), the meeting will prioritize debating strategic subjects, such as the use of inspecting units' infrastructure.

For Receita Federal Deputy Secretary, Clecy Lionço, who is also the vice-president of the World Customs Organization (WCO) for the Americas, it is important that countries work together in the region, including while fighting corruption.

There will also happen in Fortaleza, on the 8th, the Regional Seminary on Security and Facilitation of the International Logistic Chain, to announce a project being developed by the World Customs Organization, with rules and procedures to ensure world trade security and facilitate cross-border products transportation.
