Monday, 25 April 2005

United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrives in Brazil next tomorrow. It is her first time in the country, since she started at this position, in January of this year.

Rice participates on meetings with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and with the Minister of Foreign Relations, Celso Amorim.

Meetings subjects include democracy in America, the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), and sustainable development.

The Secretary will also travel to Colombia, Chile and El Salvador. The visit to Latin America ends April 30th.

In addition to Lula and Amorim, the Secretary will also meet gymnast Daiane dos Santos, and volleyball players Tande and Franco.

According to a note issued by the United States embassy, Rice will attend a presentation of a group of capoeira, as well as one of children of the Viva Volley project.

As per the embassy, Rice will make a speech on external politics, where she must mention North American diplomatic conflicts with Venezuela, as well as the reform of the United Nations Security Council.
