Bush Goes to Brazil PDF Print E-mail
Written by Nelson Motta
Wednesday, 27 April 2005

In a courtesy visit made to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, United States' Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice confirmed that US President George W. Bush will come to Brazil. The date is still to be set.

The information was given by the presidential spokesperson, André Singer. "President Lula reiterated his invitation for President Bush. The Secretary of State said that Bush wants to come to Brazil and is studying the most convenient date," said Singer.

The meeting between Condoleezza Rice and President Lula in the Planalto Palace lasted 30 minutes.

After dinner offered by the Ministry of Foreign Relations, Chancellor Celso Amorim informed that the US government is considering that Bush should come to Brazil in November, when he will participate on the Summit of the Americas, in Argentina.

Singer said that, during the meeting, Rice emphasized the importance of the relationship between Brazil and the US for the increase on trading and for the consolidation of democracy on the continent.

"She also mentioned the need of a joint help effort for Africa," stated Singer.

President Lula mentioned the importance of the United States participation on measures for the physical integration of South America, according to Singer.

Lula and Rice agreed that trading increase, economic development, and democracy are the real ways for solving the region's problems, said the Spokesperson.
