Brazilian Milton Nascimento Releases U.S. Album PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom
Sunday, 08 May 2005

American record company Savoy Jazz has just announced the signing of Brazil's singer-composer Milton Nascimento. The Rio native has long been considered a pioneer in the Latin, Jazz and World music genres.

He returns with an album of original compositions, "Pietá," a tribute to his stepmother Lilia, who raised him and introduced him to music.

The album's release, says Savoy Jazz, will be a catalyst for Nascimento to reunite with a fan base that's been building since the late 1960's.

The release of "Pietá" precedes Milton's first North American tour in 10 years. The tour will be booked by Charles Carlini, founder of the Carlini Group - www.carlinigroup.com, and is slated to begin in September.

More details on the tour will be announced shortly while "Pietá," the CDm will see its first US release on July 26th.

Milton Nascimento truly needs no introduction - he's a maverick artist with a hit-making career that spans over three decades.

Since his double album debut, "Clube da Esquina" in 1972, Milton has recorded over 28 solo albums and collaborated with musicians the world over such as Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Sarah Vaughn and countless others.

With his latest project "Pietá," Nascimento fashions a loving tribute album not only to his stepmother, but to all women.

"Pietá" features guests Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Eumir Deodato, Maria Rita Mariano and Simone Guimaraes.

Track listing is as follows: "A Feminina Voz do Cantor," "Casa Aberta," "Beleza e Canção," "Tristesse," "Quem Sabe Isso Quer Dizer Amor," "Imagem e Semelhança," "A Lágrima e o Rio," "Voa Bicho," "Outro Lugar," "Às Vezes Deus Exagera," "Cantaloupe Island," "Pietá," "Beira-Mar Novo," "Os Meninos de Araçuaí," "Boa Noite" and "Vozes do Vento."

Says Joshua Sherman, Senior Director of A&R for Savoy Jazz: "Milton Nascimento has been creating innovative, timeless music for nearly 40 years. His inimitable voice is instantly recognizable to millions of fans around the world. To work with an artist like Milton on his first US release in more than six years is a great thrill for Savoy Jazz."
