Arab - South America Union Is Just Starting, Says Kirchner in Brazil PDF Print E-mail
Written by Marcela Rebelo

The President of Argentina, Néstor Kirchner, said yesterday that the markets of both South America and the Arab countries are ample and much remains to be exploited.

"Our region needs to export and diversify the market," Kirchner emphasized.

According to Kirchner, the Arab countries' market has 300 million inhabitants, and South America's, 500 million.

He said that trade between the regions grew 40% between 1957 and 2003. "This is a significant figure, but we intend to increase it."

The Argentinean President said that it is necessary to identify business opportunities and develop a permanent policy that will allow countries to reach their goals.

"Without a doubt, we will have to overcome deficiencies, but we are confident that a new policy and a new strategy will allow us to attain our goals," Kirchner affirmed.

For Kirchner, the two regions have much to gain from exchange.

"This opportunity for a flow of knowledge between South America and the Arab countries should reinforce the formation of human capital and products of better quality.

"We should create dynamic capacities, permitting the permanent production of new competitive advantages obtained from technological innovations, market engineering, investment, and infrastructure development."
