Madrid, Spain-based IT manager Telvent announced yesterday that it will implement its management, control, operations and telecommunications technology system, in the Colinas-Sobradinho 500 kV high voltage transmission line, in Brazil.

This project is part of the Brazilian Government investment plan, utilizing the National Electrical Energy Agency (ANEEL), for consolidating the energy transmission network in the country.

Telvent will implement a solution based on its Saitel 2000DP field device and its OASyS control and information management platform, which have been developed using Telvent's extensive R&D program.

In this turnkey project, Telvent will implement its control, protection and supervision technology, as well as a real-time telecommunications system in the substations, and will also be responsible for enabling communications with the management centers.

In addition to supplying the latest generation products and technology, Telvent will also be responsible for integration, engineering, final design, data interconnection, commissioning, training and documentation services.

The Colinas-Sobradinho high voltage transmission line is situated in northeast Brazil. The 940 kilometer line includes the electrical substations in the towns of Colinas, Ribeirão Gonçalves, São João do Piauí and Sobradinho.

According to Manuel Sanchez Ortega, Telvent's Chairman, "With this project, Telvent consolidates its operations and leadership position in the energy transmission sector in Brazil. Telvent has been firmly established in Brazil since 1991, having completed more than 20 relevant contracts with companies such as Furnas, Eletronorte and Ons."

The projects that have been carried out in this country include the following installations: system for supervision, protection and digital control for the electrical substations in Maranhão; distribution management system (DMS) and automation of the electrical distribution centers in Rio de Janeiro; traffic system safety and control technology for the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte; control, management and toll systems on motorways in São Paulo; data acquisition, monitoring and control systems for oil and gas pipelines in the cities of São Paulo, Salvador, Recife and Rio de Janeiro.
