100 Countries Gather in Brazil to Discuss Corruption PDF Print E-mail

The combat of corruption and money laundering, and the incentive of agreements for international legal cooperation in these areas are the main themes of the 4th Global Forum on Fighting Corruption, which will be held in Brasilia, June 7-10.

For the first time in the country, representatives of governments, of the civil society, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, experts, and scholars of over 100 countries will discuss subjects, such as the Brazilian experience on the combat of corruption, political financing, and government bids.

For the Minister of the Federal Comptroller-General's Office (CGU), Waldir Pires, the world is becoming better organized to fight corruption.

"Corruption is a crime that affects all countries in the world. We can combat it especially by ending impunity. Because impunity highly stimulates corruption," he explained, and added "As you combat corruption, you preserve resources that can be applied in social, development, and investments policies."

Previous forum’s editions took place in the United States (Washington), in 1999; Holland (The Hague), in 2001; and in South Korea (Seoul), in 2003.
