Brazil's Minister of Health, Humberto Costa, announced that medications to help people quit smoking will be available for free, in the coming months, at the 900 public addict support centers around the country.
Smokers will have access to antidepressants, nicotine gums, and skin patches. "Antidepressants are already available, we acquired one million pills. We will get 800 thousand more. The nicotine chewing gum and the skin patch depend on the conclusion of a reverse auction expected for soon," affirmed the Minister.
The Minister's declarations were made after a meeting with Senate's President, Renan Calheiros, in which he defended the approval of the World Health Organization's (WHO) Framework Convention for Tobacco Control.
