Deputy Roberto Jefferson's decision to resign the presidency of the Brazilian Labor Party (PTB) came as a surprise to the members of the party's National Executive, which met, Thursday June 17, in Brasília.
Flávio Martinez, the successor indicated by Jefferson, said that the Deputy did not inform him of his decision to relinquish the command of the party.
He commented: "I am surprised at the selection. I never expected it."
Martinez affirmed that Jefferson's decision was a personal one, not a party strategy for the Deputy to deal with accusations of having participated in an alleged Post Office corruption scheme.
The new president of the PTB said that his personal style is different from Jefferson's.
Martinez does not hold any political office. He is the brother of former party president, José Carlos Martinez, killed in a plane accident in 2003.
Martinez is an entrepreneur and owner of the CNT television network. He will occupy the post temporarily until December, when the party will choose a new president at its national convention.
