Brazilian Embraer Gets Canadian Certification PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom
Tuesday, 19 July 2005

Embraer today announced it was awarded type certification for the Embraer 170 and the Embraer 175 models from Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA), Canada's certification authority.

Certification was on schedule and allows deliveries of the Embraer 175 to begin to Air Canada, which ordered 15 of these airplanes.

The Embraer 175s for Air Canada will be especially configured to offer premium comfort and service in two classes.

Air Canada's Embraer 175s will carry 73 passengers, nine in Executive class (three abreast at 38-inch pitch) and 64 in Hospitality (four abreast at 32- and 34-inch pitch).

Canadian certification was based on the original type certificate issued by Brazilian certification agency Centro Técnico Aeroespacial (CTA), granted in February 2004 for the Embraer 170 and in December 2004 for the Embraer 175.

The Embraer 170 and the Embraer 175 were also certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). In the United States, the Embraer 170 was certified by the Federation Aviation Administration (FAA) shortly after CTA certification last year.

The Embraer 170 and the Embraer 175 are the first two members of the successful Embraer 170/190 E-Jets family to receive type certification.

The 78-86 seat Embraer 175 is 70 inches longer than the 70-78 seat Embraer 170, and it was certified for a maximum payload of 21,804 lbs, which is 1,962 lbs higher than the Embraer 170.

In single-class configuration, the Embraer 175 accommodates 78 passengers in a 32-inch pitch configuration or 86 passengers in a 31-inch pitch configuration.

As of June 30, 2005, Embraer had delivered 66 Embraer 170s and the Embraer 170/190 family had logged 412 firm orders and 373 options.

The 98-106 seat Embraer 190 and the 108-118 seat Embraer 195 are, respectively, expected to be certified in the third quarter of 2005 and in the second quarter of 2006.

Embraer (Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica S.A.) is the world's leading manufacturer of commercial jets up to 110 seats with 35 years of experience in designing, developing, manufacturing, selling and providing after sales support to aircraft for the global airline, defense and business jet markets.

With headquarters in São José dos Campos, state of São Paulo, the company has offices and customer service bases in the United States, France, Portugal, China and Singapore.

Embraer is among Brazil's leading exporting companies. As of June 30, 2005, Embraer had a total workforce of 16,878 people, and its firm order backlog totaled US$ 10.9 billion.
