Brazilian Minister in London Seeks Explanation for Death of Brazilian PDF Print E-mail
Written by Yara Aquino
Monday, 25 July 2005

Brazil's Minister of Foreign Relations, Celso Amorim, will have a meeting today with England's Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, for talks on the death of a Brazilian.

Jean Charles de Menezes was shot by London police who, apparently, mistakenly thought he was a terrorist.

Amorim has been assured by British authorities that a thorough investigation of the incident will take place.

The Brazilian Foreign Minister has met with a cousin of the victim and will probably meet with other family members today.

Jean Charles de Menezes was 27. He was a legal immigrant who had lived in England for 3 years, says the Brazilian government.

New information from the British authorities, however, tells that Menezes was living in London on an expired Visa.

That wouldn't justify the shooting, but might explain why the Brazilian immigrant would have run from the police if this is what really happened.

I feel very very sorry and sad , im brazilian and have lived in London for many years , we are not really sure of what exactly happened during the raid on him , although in another circunstances i would have run as well specially knowing the area where is extremely dangerous full of drug dealers and lots of other crimes and not to forget the Police were wearing plain cloths . Therefore can you see yourself being followed in that area of criminality for some people in normal cloths ? What would be your first though ? they will robber, bit and anything else . I wouldn t believe it could be a police officer as well . It s was really deliberate action i suppose despite the Inteligence in the UK is meant to be one of the best in the world . I DONT THINK SO . WHAT A SHAME ON THEM .
