Lack of Publicity and Security Hurting Brazilian Tourism PDF Print E-mail

The Brazilian Colors Plan survey, commissioned by the Ministry of Tourism, reveals the sector's growth in 2005. During the first seven months of the year, the number of national arrivals increased 19.29%, and international arrivals were up 16.15%.

The most popular domestic destination in Brazil these days is Fortaleza, capital of the Northeastern state of Ceará.

When international destinations to which Brazilians travel are included, Fortaleza yields its primacy to Argentina. Europe and the United States, trailing Fortaleza, complete the list of the most frequently sold packages.

In July the foreigners who visited Brazil injected US$ 298 million into the Brazilian economy, 34.23% more than during the same period last year. The survey interviewed 1,200 tourists, listened to professionals and entrepreneurs from the sector, and evaluated 116 domestic travel itineraries.

Among the problems that impede greater growth in the sector are the lack of publicity, tourism infrastructure, professional training, and security.
