Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy has announced that daylight savings time in Brazil this year will begin on October 16 and run to February 19, 2006.
However, because of its geographical location, with part of the country on the equator, clocks are to be moved ahead only in the South, Southeast and Central West regions.
The ministry says it expects an economy of 4.6% in use of electricity in the Southeast and Central West regions, rising to 5% in the South.
The country should economize 2,340 MW, which will mean a significant reduction in the danger of outages and more security for consumers.
