Brazil Promotes Use of Natural Gas for 30,000 Buses PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom

The Science, Technology, Development and Tourism Secretariat of the State of São Paulo, Brazil and the Brazilian Association of Auto Parts Manufacturers (Sindipeças) signed today a protocol of intentions to promote the use of natural gas in vehicles.

According to secretary João Carlos de Souza Meirelles, the use of natural gas in transport only brings benefits, as it not only reduces the cost of the transport system, but also reduces the levels of environmental pollution.

The protocol was signed during the 3rd World Environment Forum, promoted by the Sindipeças in the city of São Paulo. This is the second document signed by the sate government in the month of October to provide incentives to the use of natural gas in vehicles.

At the beginning of the month, the state governor, Geraldo Alckmin, signed an agreement with Brazilian oil giant Petrobras so that, starting next year, 30,000 diesel buses in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, Santos and Campinas may be swapped for vehicles powered by natural gas.
