The 2069 head of cattle in the state of São Paulo from regions close to sites where focuses of hoof and mouth disease have been identified in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul and suspected in the state of Paraná have not been infected by the disease. This information comes from the São Paulo state secretary of Agriculture and Supply, Duarte Nogueira.
"Fortunately, none of the animals we tracked that originated in these states presented any symptoms of the disease. What is important now is for the vaccination to be performed rapidly and in the totality of our herd," he said. The state of São Paulo began vaccinating its herd against hoof and mouth disease, officially, on Tuesday, November 1st. In fact, the vaccination campaign was initiated on October 26, in view of the appearance of focuses of the disease in neighboring states. The goal of the campaign is to vaccinate 100% of the cattle, according to the secretary of Agriculture. During the last round of vaccination, the state attained the mark of 99.41% of vaccination coverage in a herd containing 13.6 million head. The vaccination campaign will run through November 30. ABr
