Bush's First Trip to Brazil to Be Marked by Countrywide Protests PDF Print E-mail

'Out, Bush. The War Lord' say posters plastered in Brasília, capital of BrazilThe President of the United States (US), George W. Bush, will be in Brazil on Saturday, November 5, and Sunday, November 6, together with the US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice. Bush will arrive in Brasília Saturday night, after attending the 4th Summit of the Americas, in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Bush's visit to Brazil, his first since assuming the US presidency, is expected to be marked by protests. Last Friday, October 28, at the closing session of a mass gathering, Collective Effort for a New Brazil, in Brasília, the national director of the Landless Rural Workers' Movement (MST), João Paulo Rodrigues, criticized Bush's visit and said that the movement would organize protests in all the country's capitals.

"We shall stage a big public demonstration against Bush. And we shall make our political views known to the President of Brazil, bearing in mind that every time that President Bush has stepped foot in Latin America, all his decisions just caused complications for everybody," Rodrigues remarked.

The main reason for Bush's trip to Latin America is the 4th Summit of the Americas, which will be attended by 34 heads of State. The theme of the meeting is job creation to deal with poverty and strengthen democratic governability.

The 3rd Summit of the Peoples of America will be held simultaneously with the meeting of government leaders. It is expected that the social movements participating in the parallel summit will also engage in protests against Bush and creation of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).

I feel sorry that he is in your country, but glad he's out of the US. He and his crowd have done a lot of damage everywhere, just not in Brazil.

What a thing to say about your president

especially in a forum with non-american readers, its a lazy and worn out assertion that the US President is to be blamed for every problem. Many brazilians in the US like the man, they help elect him.

I feel sorry for all the Bush Haters

What are they going to do when Bush isn't president any more and their problems are still around. Who are they going to blame then?

Tired of hearing everything in the world is Bush's fault or the USA's fault. Get a grip on yourselves.

What, the CIA is monitoring websites now, with pro-America comments & bullshit ? Bush is the greatest war-criminal mass-murderer liar & stooge for Yankee corporations to come along in a generation, and he is plenty detested in the US as well as worldwide, believe me.

george bush (along with most politicians) is a lying, theiving, small-minded, ignorant, murdering, heartless criminal. this planet is not a factory or a business! we are humans, we are creatures, we share this world with everything that lives! the bush government, along with many others around the world, embody every evil that man is capable of committing. time for a change! don't you think?

America has become one huge Nazi factory, sucking up the planet's resources with other people's borrowed money, so overweight Americans can waddle around eating junk food and driving huge automobiles while billions around the world starve to death and the American government bombs any country that gets in its way. It's a wonder another 911 terrorist attack on American corporate symbols doesn't happen EVERY DAY, for all the hatred Americans have brought upon themselves
