Brazilian Bar Association Ready to Call for Lula's Impeachment PDF Print E-mail

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) decided, Monday, November 7, to create a commission to investigate "facts denounced in the press concerning the country's institutional crisis," according to the OAB's national president, Roberto Busato.

He said that the commission will be able to gather information to help the OAB plenary define its position on the motion to impeach president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva presented yesterday by OAB federal councillor, Elenice Carille, from the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Carille said she believes the Brazilian population will take to the streets to demand the president's impeachment, if the OAB takes a stand on this issue.

In her impeachment motion the councillor argues that "the most serious aspect of the political juncture the country is now experiencing should be imputed to the president of the Republic, for debasing institutions through actions that are not only reprehensible from the ethical perspective but constitute criminal acts and for corrupting legislators to vote in favor of bills introduced by the Executive, especially its unconstitutional provisional measures."

For the OAB's national president, there is already evidence sustaining the motion to impeach Lula, but a "popular outcry" is missing. Busato said that the OAB will hold public hearings to discuss the question with entities from civil society.

Tell me who in the 30 plus parties in this country is not corrupt, selfish and in politics to line his/her pockets.

First and foremost tell me who is going to replace the current government, then lets talk impeachment. Lawyers are the worst of todays society. They came out with laws that make everything complicated and expensive, insuring them job security for many years to come.
