Brazil's Army Chief Calls His Men Warriors of Peace in Haiti PDF Print E-mail

At a ceremony honoring general Urano Bacellar, the commander of the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) who committed suicide in Port-au-Prince on Saturday, January 7, general Francisco Albuquerque, the Brazilian Army commander, promised that the Haiti mission, under Brazilian leadership, will continue.

"We will proceed and accomplish our mission as we have always done. This [the tragic death of general Bacellar] will not deter us. On the contrary, it has strengthened our resolve in our vocation as warriors of peace....

"I am certain that this loss will fortify our faith and will power to move ahead, get the job done, complete this challenging mission," said general Albuquerque.

Complying with a UN request, Brazil has now submitted two names to substitute Bacellar: generals José Elito Carvalho de Siqueira, commander of the 6th Military Region, and Jeannot Jansen da Silva, vice chief of Army Logistics.

....the UN peace corps in Haïti is composed of around 7000 people and even if it is under a brazilian commander, brazilian troops are "only" 1200 or so.

Therefore in view of general Albuquerque statement should we assume that the other 5800 foreign soldiers int the peace corps, are not "warriors of peace" and that they only prepare the meals to brazilian warriors, cleaning their clothes and shoes, bedrooms and also their asses ????

Sorry... but...Albuquerque statement is simply stupid and unfair.

And finally, why did the other general commited suicide ? Too much corruption...that is going to be found out and revealed ....is probably the reason.
Or could it be that he had too many parties with Haïtian minors ?

Time and non brazilian investigations will hopefully reveal the truth. Because brazilian investigations reports will probably never be revealed and kept in secrecy. Just as usual !
