Brazilian Army Worried About US Military Build Up on Brazil's Borders PDF Print E-mail
Written by André Deak
Thursday, 19 January 2006

It is because of the strategic importance of South America that the United States has stationed troops there. Official American interest in the region is usually dated from the Monroe Doctrine of 1823.

That line of thought was intended to halt recolonization by European powers, but has increasingly been used to justify American intervention in the region.

During the Cold War, president John F. Kennedy used the Monroe Doctrine to fight communism in Cuba.

Nowadays the Monroe Doctrine is not being used to justify an American presence south of that country's borders. The excuse today is narcotraffic.

A study by the Brazilian Army in 2002 shows details about the locations of American military personnel in South America and asks a question:

"Will these armed forces that ring the border of Brazil, especially in the Amazon region, eventually be used for reasons that are presently undeclared?"

A retired professor at the University of Brasília, Luiz Alberto Moniz Bandeira, who has studied the US for over 50 years, says the American presence is a cause of concern to him.

"These bases allow the Pentagon to continue getting enormous budgets. Because of the industrial-military complex, they need to use their military equipment so they can order more. It is a vicious cycle," he says.

Last October, Brazil and Uruguay complained about the possible construction of an American base inside the Mercosur region in Paraguay.

The government of Paraguay denied the construction of the base. However, Paraguay does have an agreement with the US for joint military exercises in the so-called Triple Border (Tríplice Fronteira) area where the borders of Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina meet.

Under the terms of the agreement, US and Paraguayan forces may engage in joint exercises between now and the end of the year (2006). The US has similar military agreements with other countries on the borders of Brazil.

Click the following Internet address to see more information in the form of a map from the Brazilian Army report on US troops in South America (information in Portuguese): www.radiobras.gov.br/especiais/euamerica/mapa.php
.
The map is updated with data from the Moniz Bandeira book, "The Formation of the American Empire."

Brazil and Uruguay complained !
written by Guest, January 19, 2006
Why did they complain about U.S. bases in Paraguay ?

Why have they not complained against military bases in Argentina AND Venezuela ???? Also Mercosur members, best and closest friends of Brazil, from what I know.

Why Uruguay has not complained against U.S. military base(s) in their OWN country, but complained for a new U.S. base in Paraguay ????
That is quite insane and a shame !

At least this is what the map FROM the Brazilian Army shows !!!!!

Unless the Brazilian army map is dead wrong, on purpose !!!!!!!!!

In fact, looking at the map, it shows that
- the ONLY country without U.S. base is Brazil.
- ALL others South American countries have U.S. bases.
- ALL Mercosur, to whom you belong, have also U.S. bases, except your own country.

Therefore you should no only be afraid of the U.S.A but also from All the South Amercian countries, your best and closest friends.

Because you should know by now that the U.S.A dont go to war alone, but only with a
COALITION !!!!

As U.S. military bases have ALWAYS been negotiated with, not imposed to, the receiving countries.

Therefore, it could be that all others South American countries have negotiated to get U.S. military bases because they are afraid of Brazil, and not the USA.

Because negotiating to have a U.S. base cannot mean being afraid of them, but of someone else, by definition !

It could be that all others S.A. countries think that Brazil has expansionary views !

Common sense doesnt exist in Brazil, and even less in Uruguay !

Just look in today\'s article, same site

with the headline :

Tired of Being Neglected by Brazil and Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay Woo the US !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you dont treat well your younger and weaker brothers, they may just as well look elsewhere for better caring brothers.

But by never have cared for poor Brazilians citizens, already makes Brazil unfair and unequal.
Nothing has changed between Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay.
Not even with Argentina.

Brazil has predatory, hidden and untold minds.

This is probably the reason why ALL others South American countries have negotiated U.S. army bases. JUST IN CASE !

Why is Brazil worried about the presence of the US Military build up when Brazil and America have been in bed together, (figure of speach), as it should have known that America does nothing for nothing.

There is an old saying which goes "if you lie down with dogs you will catch fleas".

I think Brazil needs to think for itself for once and do what it thinks is in the best interest of its people just the same as America alway s puts its Country and People first. The Great US of A.

Maybe this is a lesson for Brazil not to neglect its own citizens and should now start looking inwards.

God Bless Brazil?

Maybe this should be a permanent motto - [God Bless Brazil] and Brazilians should start using this from now on as a Brazilian Mantra to lift up all your citizens. Alllllll.

Watch how things change for the better as this mantra goes up into the cosmos. I have a really positive feeling about Brazil for the future and KNOW that things will get better quite quickly. Keep saying God Bless Brazil.

Remember i started this first on the 19th January 2006

Brazilian Army Worried About US Military Build Up on Brazil's Borders

Brazil´s State have close relations with China, Russia, India and Arab people., ENOUGH ALLIES TO DESTROY AND INVADE UNIDET STATES.WE HAVE GOOD CONVENTIONAL WEAPONS AND WELL TRAINNED SOLDIERS.
U.S COULD NOT BE SO STUPID ( DESPITE IT IS BEING YOUR ORDINARY BEHAVIOR) ON CONFRONT BRAZIL WITH NUCLEAR POWER.IT WOULD CAUSE TO MUCH DISGUST AND REACTIONS IN OUR ARAB, RUSSIAN AN CHINESE FRIENDS...iT´S EASIER YOU WIN US IN A SOCCER .WY CONFLICT BRAZIL?
IN CASE OF USE OF CONVENTIONAL POWER AND THE WELL KNOWN FRAGILE U.S. SOLDIERS, THEY WOULD BE EASYLY FIRED BY THE BRAZILIAN TROOPS, BRAZILIAN CITZENS, BRAZILIAN LOYAL NEIGHBORS AND RAZILIAN STRENGHT POWERFUL ALLIES.REMEMBER: BRAZIL NEVER LOST A WAR AS YOU HAVE LOST DECADE BY DECADE!AGAINS YOURSELVES, INCLUSIVE! YOU JUST HAVE MONEY, NO MORE TOO MUCH GOOD AND HONOURED MEN, AS WELL YOU HAD IN THE PAS, WHEN U.S WAS A CHRISTIAN AND FRIENDLY NATION.IN THAT TIME,WE, BRAZILIANS, LIKED YOU AND YOUR EXAMPLES.
IN CASE OF US INVASION TRIAL IN BRAZIL, YOU WOULD BE DESONOURED BY US, BRAZILIANS, AND A LOT OF BRAZILLIAN ALLIES: LOST OF U.S SOLDIERS AND U.S INNOCENT CIVILIAN HEADS IS THE BEST YOU HAVE SHOWN TO THE WORLD SINCE YOU FORGOT THE ONLY LIVING GOD, THAT YOU SERVED IN THE PAST.
YOU WOULD BECAME HAMBURGER, IN A CONVENTIONAL WAR AGAINST BRAZIL. AS IN VIETNAN...AS IN IRAQ NOW...YOU CAN DESTROY CITZENS, NOT CONCQUIRE BRAZIL.

why
written by rafael, August 11, 2009
Brazil`s bigest concern is amazon.
What today doesn`t bring to much attention tomorrow will be a treasure.
The most importante treasure that brazil have is that forest. I know that they don`t realy take care of it but it is brazilian.
There was a time in the 90s that the brazilian public voted if us would put a base in there or not and the peaple said no.
And if USA would say to brazil to atack anyone down there the Brazilian governament would not think twice before doing it.
Now why would us need it anyways. Brazilian weapons come from usa. The brazilian peaple can be proud but not stuped, brazil would never fight usa.
You can`t blame a country for been territorialist with its own frontiers.
The brazilian peaple got out of a dictatorial regime in the 80s and the idea of military forces doesn`t bring good memorys.
Brazil is not a rich country but no other country in south america stand a chance against brazil in war. there is no need for military help to brazil if a war brakes up in south america.

written by Eduardo, November 09, 2009
Brazil has serious problems? Of course, like any other country. But Brazil is the most important country in LA. Have good relations with Brazil is good to US! Brazil is an ancient ally of US who support it in First and Second World War! Tired of being neglected by US Brazil starts to walk alone! Despite our stupid left president we are the balance against Hugo Chavez dictatorship and the wake up of the populismo. And I just start my English lessons!

  • Brazil Engaged in Another Olympics: Reshaping Its Image Before Games Open

Economist's cover on BrazilBrazil received a huge boost in its international image with its selection as the host of the 2016 Olympics, but it was really just the cherry on top of the overall recognition of the country's ascension to the ranks of one of the world's most important countries. Now, as it finally takes its place on the world scene, there has been a great deal of concern about what kind of image Brazil hopes to project, now that the world is really paying attention.

  • Iranian Leader's Visit to Brazil Takes the Gloss off Lula's International Image

Ahmadinejad meets LulaThe only good thing to say about the visit to Brazil of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, on Monday November 23, is that it was mercifully short and lasted less than 24 hours. Ahmadinejad had his picture taken being hugged by president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva who gave him a warm welcome and said Iran had every right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

  • Poor Women from Northeast Brazil Learn Joy of Meeting and Helping Each Other

Joined hands The small, coastal town of Condé is located just a twenty minute's drive from João Pessoa, the capital of Paraíba. The Northeast of Brazil has historically been a place of encounter and mixing between peoples. For millenia groups of indigenous people fished, farmed, migrated and sometimes fought along this large, fertile area.

  • Ahmadinejad's Visit: Iran, Honduras and Brazil's Hypocrisy in Dealing With Them

Ahmadinejad and Lula The Brazilian diplo-MÁ-cia (bad diplomacy) carries on its accelerated course towards the non-acknowledgment of human rights, although sometimes it takes pleasure in saying that it does precisely the opposite. The visit of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is another example of a diplomatic omission that verges on hypocrisy.

  • Lula Is About to Fulfill His Wish of Getting His Good Friend Chavez in Mercosur

Lula and Chavez On July 4, 2006, representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay met in Caracas to sign the protocol for the entrance of Venezuela into the Southern Common Market (Mercosur). After two and a half years, the protocol was approved by the legislative bodies of Argentina and Uruguay, and as of now it may be only days away from being ratified by the continent's economic megalith, Brazil.

  • Denying Education is the Other AIDS. And Brazil Is Guilty of Inflicting It

Children from a Diadema band Some sectors of the fight against AIDS have suggested that Thabo Mbeki, the former president of South Africa, committed genocide through his absence from the fight against the illness in his country throughout his two terms.

  • Child Labor Went Down in Brazil, But 5 Million Underage Workers Are Still Way Too Many

Child labor in Brazil One hundred and eleven years after Brazil abolished slavery, the number of workers deprived of their freedom is still huge. They raise cattle, produce charcoal, sugar cane or timber. Some of them, most undocumented Bolivians, work in basements of small apparel factories in São Paulo and other metropolis.

  • Some Humility Would Do Lula Good. On Human Rights Brazil Has Long Way to Go

A prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil On November 7, 2009 a few friends and I had an opportunity to take a look inside a Brazilian jail outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. We were able to take some amateur footage of our experience on video (see link below). It's no surprise, of course, that the typical Brazilian jail lacks some of the functionality of those in North America or Europe, but our experience that day was quite shocking.

  • Brazil's Amazon Rainforest Policy Is a One-Way Road to Disaster

Trasamazonian road in BrazilDepletion of the Amazon Rainforest is not a new concern facing environmentalists, biologists, ecologists, and a growing number of the Amazonian indigenous peoples. For decades they have feared for the fate of the world's most biologically diverse and species-rich hothouse.

  • Geisy, Brazil's Miniskirt Student, Should Try US College Next Year

Geisy Arruda from BrazilGeisy Arruda made history this week in Brazil, but for all the wrong reasons. What began as a poorly planned fashion statement has become a worldwide tale. Geisy decided to wear a pink mini-dress to her private college in São Paulo state, and after that, all hell broke loose.
