Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva made phone calls, Thursday, January 26, to the President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, and the chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, to discuss the Doha Round negotiations in the World Trade Organization (WTO).
This information comes from the press office of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Relations (Itamaraty). In his conversation with the German chancellor, Lula reiterated the importance of convening a meeting of leaders of developed and developing countries to surmount the impasses hindering the progress of the WTO negotiations. According to the Itamaraty, Merkel agreed that the negotiations should proceed and said she would consult the other members of the European Union on this matter. In his conversation with Mbeki, the Brazilian president suggested that a meeting to discuss the Doha Round be held during the Progressive Government Summit, which will take place on February 11-12 in South Africa. Mbeki agreed that the Summit would be a good time to discuss the matter with other African heads of State and government, the Itamaraty informed. Lula has already suggested the holding of a summit to discuss the WTO's negotiations in phone calls to President George Bush and British premier Tony Blair. Germany is only 1 out of 25 members.
The EU has put an offer on the table. You did not put a centavos yet on table.
What is less known is that the EU is already in negotations for exactly the same subject with the Mercosur.... SINCE 1999 !!!!!.
Here too you want everything and give nothing.
And you said it clearly : better no deal than a bad deal.
And the EU is telling you : better no deal than a bad deal.
If it makes sense for you, it also makes sense for us.
The EU is already giving billiions and billions of Euros to the new EU members countries, much poorer than the olders members.
The EU is also already providing billions and billions of aid and lower barriers to the poorest countries of the world.
Brazil has already a a huge trade surplus with the EU.
The Mercosur dont help much their pooorest members.
The G20 dont help the poorest countries of the world.
The EU is telling the G20 :
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH AND NOT ENOUGH IS NOT ENOUGH !
Just think about it !
