Victory of Left Gives LatAm a Better Place in World, Says Brazil's Lula PDF Print E-mail
Written by Carolina Pimentel
Sunday, 29 January 2006

Speaking during his weekly radio broadcast, last week, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva declared that the election of the new president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, was a demonstration of the fact that progressives were coming to power in Latin America.

"All over the continent, more progressive people are being elected. For the first time we see that there is a possibility that Latin America will not be treated like poor countries, or Third World countries, but take their place in the community of developed nations. In order to do that we need serious government that governs in the interest of the majority of the people," he said.

Lula went on to say that Brazil and other Latin American countries were "Interested in helping Bolivia consolidate its democracy, through a successful presidency of Evo Morales, and overcome the problems of the past....

"Morales was elected with an absolute majority and has a majority in the Lower House and fell short of a majority in the Senate only by one vote. He has a great chance of uniting Bolivia and making it possible for the poor to effectively participate and share in the country's wealth."

In his inaugural speech earlier this month, the new president of Bolivia, made a number of acknowledgements. He specifically thanked Brazilian President Lula for "teaching and guiding me." Morales went on to say that he intended to build highways linking his country with Brazil and Peru.

Morales also called on Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela to join him in discussions on the use of natural resources, mainly petroleum and natural gas.

"Do not exclude Bolivia from talks about future uses of natural resources. It is our wish that all states benefit from their use," he said.

As for trade, Morales said he believed a president had an obligation to make good business deals for his country. He said he was open to discussions on Mercosur and the Free Trade Area of the Americas. He concluded by saying that his country had goods to sell, but needed to find markets for them.

Full of contradictions as usual !

- Being anti noeliberalists is fine, but you need neoliberalists clients to buy your goods.
- And neoliberalists will not only buy your goods, they also want you to buy their own goods. One way trade cannot last very long.
- Morales is not the only person on earth to have goods to sell, every country in this planet has goods for sale, neoliberalists or not. Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela included.
- If Morales wants good price for his gas, why does he sell it at below market prices to Brazil and Argentina, his only main buyers ? smile

And if these 4 junkies are against neoliberalists, why do they have the U.S.A. the most neoliberalists as their main trading partner ? Their second main partners being the EU which you also call the second most neoliberalists !!!!!!

In fact what you preach should be reciprocally given to you by the EU, Japan and the USA, namely we dont accept anymore our exisiting huge trade deficits with your 4 countries ! Using your own ideology, you could not be critical of this type of decision, if and when applied by others. RIGHT ?

And if Morales is so much anti neoliberalist why is he open suddenly and curiously now to discussions for the FTAA, proposed by Bush, the apparent worst neoliberalist in this planet, as per Lula, Kirchner, Chavez
continued.....

...and Morales himself who named himself, not long ago the "nightmare" of the USA ????

It is highly strange that the anti neoliberalists are anti neoliberalists only by rethoric phrases but never by facts.

It is a fact that now the only anti neoliberalists are just the 3 junkies of Kircher, Lula and Chavez as Morales is no longer truly against the FTAA.
Even Uruguay and Paraguay are dreaming of being FTAA members because
they know they will be taken better care by the FTAA than they have been taken care by the Mercosur big brothers.

Afterall the neoliberalists are not that bad. They buy goods at a higher price than anti neoliberalists and they buy more goods than them !

Something is dead wrong in the critics on the neoliberalists.
No common sense at every factual aspect you look at, but only in their phrasing.
No doubt in my mind that ALL South American coun tries will become rather sooner than later members of the FTAA.
But those who criticized the most will have some type of penalty one way or the other.
The FTAA is the only way to counter balance, China, Asia and the EU.
By the way....I am European....not American, so you can see my sincerity !
