Children as Young as 5 Work in Brazil's Talc Mines PDF Print E-mail
Written by Ivan Richard
Thursday, 09 February 2006

Child labor continues to pervade supply chains throughout the Brazilian economy. This observation was made by Caio Magri, an adviser on government policies in the Ethos Institute, in a press conference at the kickoff of February's edition of the Social Observatory magazine.

The publication contains accusations against large multinational organizations that buy products from suppliers who exploit child labor in talc mines located in Ouro Preto, in the state of Minas Gerais.

According to Magri, child labor has declined in Brazil in recent years, "but a major effort on the part of companies, society, and the government is still needed to put an end to this evil."

According to the accusations, from the age of 5, children begin hauling rocks and breathing the lethal dust that infests these mines, which operate clandestinely in the Minas city.

The charges were investigated by the reporter, Marques Casara, over a four-month period.

...YOU STILL DO INTERNATIONAL FORUMS IN YOUR COUNTRY TO EXPLAIN THE WORLD HOW TO ELIMINATE CHILDREN WORKS !!!!!

WHY DONT YOU DO THINGS...THAT YOU WANT TO EACH TO THE WORLD...AND WHEN YOU WILL HAVE DONE YOUR JOB... PROPERLY....THEN YOU CAN TALK AND TEACH FOR WHAT YOU DID WRONG.

IN THE MEANTIME.... THE BRAZILIAN GOVERNMENT AND POLITICIANS HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO !!!!!!

THESE POOR CHILDREN!!!!

I BET NONE OF THE CHILDREN IN THE MINES BELONG TO THE RICH OR THOSE PEOPLE WITH IMPUNITY.

NO RESPECT FOR THE KIDS WHO BUSINESSMEN USE AS IF THEIR PROPERTY OR SERVANTS.

EVERYONE HAS FAILDED THESE CHILDREN AND ALL OF YOU SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE.

TALK ABOUT FEEDING THE PIGS OF CORRUPTION!!!!!!!

THE BRAZILIAN GOVERNMENT HAS GOT A LOT OF WORK TO DO BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE CENTURIES AGO AND ALLOWED THINGS TO SPIRAL COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL.

THEY HAVE ONLY THEMSELF TO BLAME AND NO ONE SHOULD FEEL SORRY FOR THEM .

WERE BRAZILIAN LAWMAKERS THINKING ABOUT THE UNFAIRNESS WHEN USING MONEY WHICH BELONG TO THE PEOPLE OF THEIR COUNTRY LIKE A CASH COW??????????
Sanctions...

Why isn't the U.S. Government issuing sanctions on them? I have never heard of this till now. Is the U.S. doing anything about this or is this another one of those "Culturally Imperialistic" arguements that means the U.S. has to kiss someones butt and not "force" our beliefs on them but rather let them exist? Guess we are too busy freeing the women of the Middle East from their opression to try to get oil. So that form of Emperial ism is okay where women with oil isn't?---(confused & conflicted)
OOPS!

Several misspellings there but you get the point easy enough but at the end it was meant to read that women with Middle East oil is okay to interfere with but children inhaling talc isn't? I wrote this in a rather heated furry!! if anyone has an answer that logically explains this to me please e-mail me...waltsasob@yahoo.com (it may just shut me up if I'm dead wrong with my ethical view point)
