Brazilian Sentenced to Jail in US for Selling Fake Green Cards PDF Print E-mail
Written by Newsroom
Friday, 10 February 2006

A Brazilian man residing in Arlington, Massachusetts, was sentenced Thursday, February 9, in federal court for transferring and aiding and abetting the transfer of fake United States identification documents, and possessing document-making implements.

United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan; Matthew J. Etre, Acting Special Agent in Charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in New England; and Leo J. Sullivan, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Social Security Administration's Office of Inspector General, announced today that Ozélio Pereira De Assis, age 26, of 248 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, Massachusetts, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton to 27 months' imprisonment and 24 months' of supervised release following his incarceration.

Upon completion of his prison sentence, De Assis faces deportation to his native Brazil.

De Assis pleaded guilty on October 27, 2005 to two counts of transferring false identification documents and to one count of possessing document-making implements.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that, had the case proceeded to trial, the evidence would have proven that from October of 2004 and May of 2005, De Assis unlawfully transferred counterfeit Alien Registration Cards commonly known as "green cards" and counterfeit Social Security Account Number Cards.

On May 25, 2005, Special Agents of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement ("ICE") arrested De Assis at the Peabody District Court on administrative immigration charges.  De Assis was transported back to the ICE office where he was given his Miranda rights and Consular rights in the Portuguese language.

During the subsequent interview, De Assis admitted to being involved in the sale of counterfeit green cards, counterfeit Social Security cards and counterfeit foreign driver's licenses to illegal aliens.

According to De Assis, he had been involved in selling the aforementioned documents since October 2004, and had sold between two to three documents per day from October 2004 to the present.

De Assis stated that customers who requested the documents would call him on the cellular phone and place an order.  De Assis would then meet with the customers on the street and take their orders, often obtaining a photograph and biographical information of the customer, which would then be used on the documents.

De Assis claimed to charge customers approximately US$ 60 per document.  After he took the orders, De Assis would then meet with another Brazilian, who would manufacture the documents.

According to De Assis, this male would charge De Assis $40 per document for manufacturing them.  Based on his own statements, De Assis was involved in the distribution of over 212 documents between October 2004 and April 2005.

De Assis also admitted to the ICE Special Agents that he manufactured identification documents on occasion. Additionally, on May 25, 2005, De Assis provided written consent to search his red Dodge Intrepid that he was driving at the time of his arrest.

Seized from the vehicle were laminating pouches, two sheets of passport style photos of two persons, a ream of gray paper stock similar to that used on both the International Driver's License Books and Brazilian Driving History Records, three notebooks, one of which has names and biographical information of numerous persons and a Brazilian Driver's History Record of an unknown person.

All of these items were seized by ICE agents.  Additionally, Peabody Police seized three cameras from the vehicle on May 24, 2005, two Polaroid style cameras and one 35mm camera.

The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Social Security Administration's Office of Inspector General.  It was being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Antoinette E.M. Leoney in Sullivan's Major Crimes Unit.

I am in suspense!!! What do Brazilians learn at school?

Strange huuum!!!

On a serious note I hope Brazilians will learn from all the negative vibes on this site, they will see how they are protrayed, come off their high horses.

Then they might learn there is nothing wrong with being real or having humility!!!!!!!

Had Former Brazilian Fiance Who Tried To
written by Guest, February 12, 2006
I had a former fiance from Sao Paulo who always tried to play games with the INS. I took him to a good South American attorney to try and help him get a green card the legal way but I deduced that he wanted to play games with the INS so I left him alone. True, the INS is predominantly made up of racist white men who favor white immigrants from first world countries but I don't believe in giving the INS nothing. I kept trying to get my former fiance to dot his "i's and cross his "t's but like this guy he wants to try and outsmart the INS. I believe in doing things the right way so I don't have time to get involved with a person who wants to continue to be "slick". In the end such persons "outslick" themselves, lose everything they've acquired in the U.S. and then get their butts thrown right across the Atlantic back to Brazil and can't return ever again to this country.

Guilty As Charged , I Say !
written by Guest, February 12, 2006
This forging of documents goes on all the time and it's NO surprise a Brasilian is in the middle of it. Those of us who have worked with and done business with Brasilians KNOW they are not capable of doing anything honest, it's the way they operate towards eachother and others. Brasilian culture comes from Portugal, where it's MACHO to cheat people and lie.
Brasilians will need 100 years to catch up to the rest of the world and to learn what HONESTY and INTEGRITY means. So far, it's not in their vocabulary. Don't hold your breathe.

Fake Docs
written by Guest, February 12, 2006
Since the Northereast is invading the U.S., I assume most of the Brazilians that are here got fake documents to get their visas.

As if turning SP into the Northeast wasn't enough, now they are all over the U.S. and you'd be lucky to find one good looking white Brazilian here anymore.

The Ones Who Have Fak Docs Are From Sao
written by Guest, February 13, 2006
My former boyfriend was from SAO PAULO not the Northeast and he was a mixture of Portuguese,Italian and African - a goodlooking brotha if I do say so myself. A lot of people mistook him for being Mexican since I live in California and there is a large Mexican population here. I haven't seen too many brown or dark Brazilians from the Northeast pullin the scams that the Brazilians from Sao Paulo are pulling. If a Brazilian looks white than he should have no problems with the INS and shouldn't have to resort to fake documents to get into the U.S. since the INS favors white immigrants.

  • Ahmadinejad's Visit: Iran, Honduras and Brazil's Hypocrisy in Dealing With Them

Ahmadinejad and Lula The Brazilian diplo-MÁ-cia (bad diplomacy) carries on its accelerated course towards the non-acknowledgment of human rights, although sometimes it takes pleasure in saying that it does precisely the opposite. The visit of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is another example of a diplomatic omission that verges on hypocrisy.

  • Some Humility Would Do Lula Good. On Human Rights Brazil Has Long Way to Go

A prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil On November 7, 2009 a few friends and I had an opportunity to take a look inside a Brazilian jail outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. We were able to take some amateur footage of our experience on video (see link below). It's no surprise, of course, that the typical Brazilian jail lacks some of the functionality of those in North America or Europe, but our experience that day was quite shocking.
