Written by Newsroom
Thursday, 16 March 2006

Geraldo Alckmin, Governor of the State of São Paulo, addressed the 10th World Summit of Young Entrepreneurs (WSYE), of which he is patron. The Summit took place at the Anhembi Convention Center, in São Paulo, Brazil.

This was Governor Alckmin's first speaking engagement following the formal announcement of his candidacy for President of Brazil. This historic forum attracted more than 1000 young CEOs and Presidents of companies from over 75 countries, the largest Summit ever.

The Governor was presented an Award by Sujit Chowdhury, Secretary General, 10th WSYE, President and CEO, World Trade University Global Secretariat, in recognition of Governor Alckmin's "accountability and inspirational leadership."

According to Chowdhury "this great forum serves as the foundation necessary for the next generation of young Brazilian entrepreneurs to develop and to stimulate the rise of pioneering initiatives in all of the business sectors involved.

"Mr. Alckmin has a remarkable record of achievement under his stewardship as the Governor of the State of Sao Paulo where the economy has grown by an amazing 7.6%, faster than Brazil itself."

In addressing the delegates, Governor Alckmin stated that "entrepreneurship had everything to do with the State of São Paulo and Brazil. Brazil has a talent for growth. In the last 50 years, the GNP has increased at an average rate of 7% per year...

"And São Paulo, by its very nature, is a city that symbolizes excellence in entrepreneurship. When entrepreneurs go into the market, they generate jobs, economic growth, and therefore contribute to building a better society".

Alckmin said that "development is the new word for peace; there is no peace, where there is poverty."

The three-day Summit, hosted by the São Paulo Commercial Association and Coordinated by The World Trade University Global Secretariat, will focus on building partnerships, business leadership, creating joint ventures and networking, with speeches delivered by political, economic and business leaders from several countries, in addition to Interactive Workshops in which themes such as global market negotiations, brand marks, competition, access to financing, risk management, supply chain, relationships between small and medium sized companies and multinational corporations, as well as social responsibility.
