Embraer and Royal Jordanian Airlines have signed this Wednesday, March 22, a contract for the acquisition by the airline of seven Embraer 195s, with deliveries due to start in the fourth quarter of 2006.
The Embraer 195 will be configured to carry 100 passengers in a two-class layout, with 12 seats in Crown Class and 88 seats in Economy Class, with a pitch of 42" and 33", respectively. The aircraft will be deployed on routes to the Middle East, Africa and into Europe. "Embraer's new generation Embraer 195s will provide Royal Jordanian with the ability to truly develop Amman as a hub for the region. These aircraft will allow Royal Jordanian to increase frequency and enter new routes at the lowest possible cost. For our passengers, the Embraer 195 will offer a level of comfort and service that is consistent with the rest of Royal Jordanian's fleet," said Mr. Samer Majali, Royal Jordanian's President and Chief Executive Officer. "We will be introducing the Embraer 195 into our operations over the next two years, with the first delivery in October of this year." The first Arab airline invited to join the Oneworld alliance, Royal Jordanian is the launch customer in the Middle East for the Embraer 195. The aircraft is due to receive its type certification in mid-2006. The Embraer 195 is one of four members of a new family of jets, the Embraer 170/190 family, seating from 70 to 118 passengers. At the end of December 2005, 118 units of this new family of aircraft were delivered to airlines in Europe, Middle East, North and Central America and Asia. As of December 31, 2005 the Embraer 170/190 family orderbook totaled 440 firm orders and 362 options. Embraer is the world's leading manufacturer of commercial jets of up to 110 seats. The 170/190 Family Embraer has developed a new family of aircraft designed for the commercial aviation market. The new product line comprises the Embraer 170, Embraer 175, Embraer 190 and Embraer 195 jets - seating respectively up to 78, 86, 108 and 118 passengers. The high degree of commonality among the family of four airliners results in exceptional spare parts and maintenance cost reduction for carriers. Moreover, cross crew qualification (CCQ) allows better utilization of resources without the restrictions normally associated with mixed-fleet flying. Each model of the Embraer 170/190 family has two underwing CF34 General Electric engines continually monitored by a redundant computerized management system called Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC). Another key feature of the Embraer 170/190 program is the use of fly-by-wire technology for the flight control systems, similar to that deployed on larger commercial jets and advanced military aircraft. Each member of the Embraer 170/190 family has two main passenger doors and two service doors that minimize aircraft turn-around time. All four aircraft can be configured for single class or dual class seating. One other strength of the Embraer 170/190 family is the comfort provided by the double-bubble fuselage design. Unlike other aircraft of similar seating capacities, this design offers much more personal space for passengers. Embraer expects its new commercial jet family to win a significant share of the still untapped market for jets in the 70- to 110-seat segment - mainly due to their superior performance, exceptional cabin comfort and reduced operating costs.
