Hotel Sector Creates 300,000 Jobs a Year in Brazil PDF Print E-mail
Written by Patrícia Landim
Wednesday, 05 April 2006

The hotel sector possesses one of the greatest potentials for job creation in Brazil and is an important consumer of industrial goods according to the Brazilian government.

The conclusion is based in a a study sponsored by Brazil's Ministry of Tourism, together with the SEBRAE (Brazilian Micro and Small Firm Support Service). The study was presented Tuesday, April 4,  by the Minister of Tourism, Walfrido dos Mares Guia.

"In the first two months of this year, 47,000 formal jobs, with signed working papers, were created in tourism activities. For each formal job in tourism, nearly two indirect jobs are created," the minister observed.

He emphasized that the sector has a direct impact on 240 thousand formal jobs and 60 thousand indirect ones.

The study, which was carried out by the FIPE (Economic Research Institute Foundation), at the University of São Paulo, also considered the direct effects, associated with economic activity within the sector itself, and the indirect effects, which correspond to the purchases of inputs.

The sources of the data were registers from the ministry and the Brazilian Hotel Industry Association, as well as the Annual Study of Services by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) and other publications. The research covered 2,116 hotels and inns from around the country.

Double goof....again !

If the actual impact is 240'000 formal how is it possible that :
- there is a 300'000 jobs creation PER YEAR as the headline says ?

And if there is an actual impact of 60'000 jobs indirect jobs compared to the 300'000 direct jobs, how can someone says that for every direct job impact, 2 indirect ones will be created.
Because then it should have an actual
impact of 600'000 indirect jobs not 60'000.

And if the actual impact is 240'000 of direct jobs, meaning the actual total jobs, it is highly doubtful that your hotel sector will grow by over 100 % PER YEAR.

MISERABLE !LAMENTABLE !

Furthermore the first 2 months of the year is also during the HIGH season in Brazil. Right ?
Therefore averaging the 47'000 jobs created in 2 months to arrive at your 300'000 per year is wrong. Dead Wrong.
simply because during the low season, less new jobs are3 created, by definition. It should even be normal that during the low seasons there is less total jobs than during the high season. rught ?

Many high rankings Brazilian should go back to elementary school. they just provide STUPID AND WRONG numbers, that bdont match with each others.

Is this Brazilian maths ?
Is this done on a Brazilian software spreadsheet.
Or is this voluntary errors to pump the reality ?

Whatever the reason is, it is quite shameful to publish such articles. wrong from A to Z !!!!!
