In Brazil, students at 50,000 public primary and secondary schools with over 100 students will receive a new learning instrument. The schools will receive kits containing a DVD player and 50 disks with a total of approximately 150 hours of programs produced by the TV School channel.

The Ministry of Education (MEC) estimates the project will benefit over 21 million students and 852,833 teachers in 5,090 Brazilian cities.

The DVD School project was launched  by the minister of Education, Fernando Haddad, in the Ave Branca High School, in Taguatinga, one of the satellite cities in the Federal District.

"It represents a new resource, a modern resource that will bring the schools the best that the Ministry of Education has produced," affirmed Haddad, who thinks that the DVD School will be an important tool in the process of universalizing education in the country.

The minister believes that it is necessary to update the schools' channels of information in order to motivate the young people. In his opinion, the TV School gives teachers and students an essential support.
