Brazil's Lula Excited With Addition of Biofuel to Diesel PDF Print E-mail
Written by Carolina Pimentel
Tuesday, 23 May 2006

With the production of H-Bio, consumers may be able to pay less for diesel oil, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said Monday, May 22, in his weekly radio broadcast.

H-Bio is a new type of fuel including a mixture of vegetable oil (extracted from castor beans, soybeans, and other oilseeds) in the process of producing diesel oil, resulting in a higher quality product that is less pollutive. The fuel will be manufactured by Petrobras.

"Our diesel oil will be better in quality, because it will be refined together with petroleum. This can lower the price for consumers and can provide soybean and castor bean producers a degree of market certainty, meaning that they won't depend exclusively on exports.

We will be able to sell this oil to other countries and will be able to consume much more domestically," Lula affirmed during his program, "Breakfast with the President."

The new fuel was announced last Wednesday, May 18, by the National Energy Policy Council. According to Petrobras, beginning in 2007, diesel will contain a mixture of 10% vegetable oil, and Brazil will thus be able to eliminate up to 250,000 cubic meters daily in diesel imports.

In Lula's opinion, H-Bio will alter the world's energy matrix in the coming years. "The extraction of biodiesel from castor beans, dendê palm coconuts, sunflower seeds, cottonseeds, and soybeans will permit us to raise productivity in the countryside, provide the producers of these oilseeds an effective peace of mind, and enable Petrobras to assume definitive responsibility for looking after not only petroleum, but also these other items that add up to energy and sovereignty for Brazil," the president declared.

Paying less ? Come on !
written by Guest, May 23, 2006
Lets be honest, your ethanol is not than much cheaper than gasoline when compared for the energy equivalent !

Furthermore, in your gasoline price Brazil has added a lot of taxes, that is not the case in ethanol.

Therefore gasoline IS much much cheaper than ethanol.

Your country, self sufficient in oil by now, is selling the gasoline price far higher than in the USA, a country that imports over 2/3 of its oil !

Cant you see how manipulated you are ?
The government just dont want you to realize what they are doing.

You have the Highest gasoline price in the World for a self sufficient country !

Simple as that !

It\'s you who are manipulated...

To the Gringo who said Brazilians are manipulated: BS.

Of course Petroleum Gasoline is taxed higher... as it well should be, because of all the hidden environmental costs. Alcool on the other hand is not only almost carbon-emission neutral, but also much better for the local economy by providing more employment.

You on the other hand are being bamboozled... the US government funnels vast quantities of your tax dollars to the oil industry, in the form of tax breaks, outright grants,
unlimited license to polute the environment, and of course by waging war to control oil. Your stupid and evil war in Iraq /should/ at least be paid by adding the cost to your gasoline taxes rather than just adding them to the debt of your children.

I agree. Ethanol is poised for a growth in India too with a 5% blending in petrol becoming mandatory in many states.
I wonder if both countries can use synergies to create a commercially viable , mass produced alternate to "fossil fuels"

This is a small insert from a book written at the end 1900's."Mitar Tarabich - Serbian Prophet"
It is time for new power, new energy,...

And do you know my god-father, what is human intelligence compared to God's will and knowledge? Not even a single drop in the ocean.
Men will build a box and within will be some kind of gadget with images, but they will not be able to communicate with me already dead, even though this image-gadget will be as close to this other world as hairs on the human scalp are close to each other."
"With the help of this image-gadget man will be able to see everything that is happening all over the world.
People will drill wells deep in the ground and dig out gold [another name for crude oil is "black gold"], which will give them light, speed and power, and the earth will shed tears of sorrow, because there will be much more gold and light on its surface than in its interior. The earth will suffer because of these open wounds.
Instead of working in the fields, people will dig everywhere, in right and wrong places, but the real power will be all around them, not being able to tell them: "Come on, take me, don't you see that I am here, all around you."
but the real power will be all around them, not being able to tell them: "Come on, take me, don't you see that I am here, all around you." Only after many a summer, people will remember this real power, and then they will realise how stupid it was to dig all those holes. This power will also be present inside of the human kind but it will take a long time before they discover it and use it.
Thus man will live for a long, long time, not being able to know himself. There will be many learned men who will think through their books that they know and can do everything. They will be the great obstacle for this realisation [self-knowledge], but once men get this knowledge, then people will see what kind of delusion it was when they listened to their learned men. When that happens, people will be so sorry that they didn't discover it before, because this knowledge is so simple.
People will do many stupid things, thinking that they know and can do everything, not knowing anything.

  • Ahmadinejad's Visit: Iran, Honduras and Brazil's Hypocrisy in Dealing With Them

Ahmadinejad and Lula The Brazilian diplo-MÁ-cia (bad diplomacy) carries on its accelerated course towards the non-acknowledgment of human rights, although sometimes it takes pleasure in saying that it does precisely the opposite. The visit of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is another example of a diplomatic omission that verges on hypocrisy.

  • Some Humility Would Do Lula Good. On Human Rights Brazil Has Long Way to Go

A prison in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil On November 7, 2009 a few friends and I had an opportunity to take a look inside a Brazilian jail outside the city of Rio de Janeiro. We were able to take some amateur footage of our experience on video (see link below). It's no surprise, of course, that the typical Brazilian jail lacks some of the functionality of those in North America or Europe, but our experience that day was quite shocking.
