Foreign tourists spent US$ 1.5 billion from January to April this year in Brazil, which represented an increase in 19.7% in relation to the same period last year, according to information from the country's Central Bank.

In the month of April alone, foreigners' expenditure added up to US$ 344 million, an increase in 17% in relation to the same month in 2005, which was of US$ 294 million.

The figures this month confirm the sector's good period, which had it's best season of all times, with many consecutive records. March 2006 was the best month in history of Brazilian international receptive tourism, with US$ 453 million. The information is from the Sebrae News Agency.

On the other hand, Brazilians spent abroad, during the first four months of the year, US$ 1.678 billion, which generated a negative difference of US$ 119 million.

In April, they spent US$ 432 million, with a negative difference of US$ 88 million. For the head of the Economic Department at the Central Bank, Altamir Lopes, "Brazilian tourists spending abroad has increased a lot due to a real increase in income, with inflation control and exchange rates that benefit outgoing tourism."
