The 39th edition of Algiers International Fair, scheduled to begin today, June 1st, in the capital of Algeria, includes 15 Brazilian companies from sectors like food, furniture, tools, vehicles and auto parts.
The novelty in this year's edition is the participation of the Brazilian Furniture Industry Association (Abimóvel) and the exhibition of vehicle Cross Fox, developed and produced by Volkswagen Brazil. The fair goes on up to June 08. Other heavyweight participants are aircraft maker Embraer, which is exhibiting a mock-up of an airplane, as well as company posters, and Randon, a maker of highway implements based in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. In total, the fair includes 1,635 exhibitors from 45 countries, who are exhibiting their products in an area of over 75,000 square meters. The Brazilian space occupies an area of over 300 square meters. The participating companies have the support of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, which is participating in the fair for the 9th time. One of the Brazilian companies that have already participated in other editions of Algiers International Fair is Tangará, a maker of powdered milk. The company already exports to Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt. Another participant is Starret, a maker of saws, which participated in a fair in Cairo, Egypt, at the beginning of the year and hired an agent to distribute company products in the Arab country. Furniture factories are occupying most of the Brazilian space at the fair. There are a total of nine companies in the sector: Rimo, Divicar, Bertolini, BRV, Politorno, Ferrarte, Mobitec, D'Itália and Carraro. According to the secretary general at the Arab Brazilian Chamber, Michel Alaby, Algeria is one of the richest countries on the African continent and is the main Brazilian trade partner among the 22 Arab countries. Algiers International Fair, which is a multisector event, counts on the presence of 522 Algerian companies, being 84 public and 431 private. They are in the food, furniture and decoration, energy, chemical and petrochemical and construction material sectors. Trade balance Last year, Brazilian exports to the country grew 10.3%, totaling US$ 384.3 million. From January to April this year, Brazilian foreign sales to Algeria total US$ 76.7 million. The main products shipped were sugar, soy, iron, meats, vehicles and milk. Regarding Brazilian imports from the Arab country, they totaled US$ 2.8 billion last year, representing growth of 47.3%.
